ECA/Amazon FAQ

1. I can't get into the member's area/can't find out where to pay. Help!

After the initial registration email, you should receive a second email linking you to a payment page. You can request that this email be resent if need be. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders as well.

2. Will this work on consoles?

No. Games and most accessories only. Physical point cards are also eligible, but not digital point codes.

3. Do these work on Quick Picks/Deals of the Day/Trade-in Coupons?

Yes, Yes, and Yes!

4. How do I get my Quick Picks to show games?

This should be a basis to get it to work for whatever you are interested in. It is not a science though so be persistent.

5. Does this work on Pre-orders?

Yes, it does. The price will also automatically take off 10% of whatever the final selling point is due to the Pre-Price Guarantee that Amazon offers.

6. I have heard that these offers have expired/been removed, is this true?

There have been a few instances where codes expired or they ran out but The ECA and Amazon have usually rectified the situation within a week or so. Also, the Terms of Service state that any membership benefits can change or be canceled without any notice so keep that in mind when signing up.

7. Double and Triple stacking

This is no longer possible. Don't bother trying. Originally when the ECA would run out of codes and switch to a new batch members were able to stack codes. A glitch in Amazon's system would keep older codes in your account, and it was possible to add codes from the newer batches to obtain more than 10% off. Amazon found out about this, hence the reason the codes are currently down/ being worked on.

8. Begging/Asking for codes

This is not allowed. If you beg/ask for a code you will be permabanned. No questions asked.

9. Selling codes

Definitely a big no no. If you do this, you will get reported to the ECA and your account will be shut down.

10. If I make a pre-order with a code a cancel it, will the code still work?

Yes. Codes should remain in your account but again they will no longer stack. It is one code per game. Amazon and the ECA are working on codes tied into our accounts but this option is not yet available.

11. If I already have a pre-order made, can I add a 10% off code to it?

You can not add a anything to an order once it is made except a gift card. You can try emailing Amazon customer support and ask them to add it. Generally they have no issue doing this for you but it's a crap shoot.

12. What if I already have a pre-order with the old codes applied? Should I be worried?

We don't know definitively, but chances are good that Amazon will not touch the pre orders we have already made.

I haven't checked their forums, but I'm sure this will happen again. I would suggest stocking up on some codes and placing your orders. At worst, you can always easily cancel Amazon orders and re-order if it shows up in your gold box.

Oh crap, I just tried ordering Metroid Prime Trilogy and it said the code could not be applied to the purchase! I tried a second code and it said the same thing! WTF?!?

That sucks, I used the previous codes just fine with the Metroid Trilogy.

Hope they didn't make the codes exclude certain games like expensive sets or collector's editions, that would be worse.

Just tried ordering the Modern Warfare 2 Collector's edition with the ECA discount and the 50% off from the trade-in program coupon. Both worked like a charm.

Got MW2: Collector's edition with release date delivery for $31.99, awesome.

Codes mix and match, so have fun everyone. Also confirmed it worked with two games in the cart.

WTF?!?The problem last time was that Amazon put an expiration date on the codes, so regardless of whether you had an unused code available, it was dead. I'm sure this will continue happening until they get the multi-use codes up and running, but I don't think a few days a month is any big deterrent from joining.

Unfortunately for me, those few days included Trauma Team and Mario Bros., today I have a whole lot of nothing.

Managed to get discount on every item (came out to a little over $400) with one code. Would recommend for those who are looking to get certain games and know they're going to want it Day 1 to order now while the codes are good--you can always go back and delete pre-orders later (or re-order if it comes up in GB).

Sage advice. I think for now, if you want multiple things, you should do one order with the code as it is working on multiple items. Hopefully we will get some confirmation from ECA/Amazon about the changes/limits.

I'm considering signing up, though I wouldn't get the student discount. Now that I know we sometimes have flip opportunities from GS to Amazon it seems more worthwhile, but still it's only 10%. I'm not sure if I'll spend enough to even get my money back. I have to buy $200 worth of games just to break even and I'm a cheap ass gamer - I don't buy games for full price normally, usually not even close to full price. :-k

Damn, if they'd had this working when I put in my pre-order for Beatles RB with the 50% off coupon, I'd have joined for the extra discount. Too late now, since Amazon doesn't let you add promotional certificates after placing an order. As it is, I don't generally order enough games from Amazon otherwise to make it really worthwhile. Oh well, their loss, I guess.

This is a first I've heard about this ECA code thinger majigger... Can someone explain it a bit? I get that you pay and signup with ECA, you download a code from the ECA benefit page which you can then use when buying a game at Amazon for %10 off, as well as at some other places (and apparently now just 1 per day). What's this about codes running out and games in gold box (is this a special section added because I don't see gold box games)? Any other things that one should know about this?

You already know a lot, so you are well informed, the gold box is Amazon's gold box deal, which are specific deals for you only depending on what you buy on Amazon (usually 5% off on items, in this case games).

The 'codes running out' issue is that at the end of last month June, all the ECA codes expired and no one had working codes. The ECA codes were fixed today, so people are now commenting on the new batch of codes, that's all.

I wonder why we are not able to use the codes more than once. Some Cags were able to use them more than once. Still waiting on a response from the ECA forums regarding this. Hopefully they can confirm if they changed to one-per-day or maybe there's a problem on Amazon's side of things.

Ah okay, thanks. So the code running out issue, that was a one time ordeal? Also what games are qualify for these codes from amazon? Just games that are sold directly by amazon or all games which qualify for amazon prime shipping?

And as for the Gold Box being personalized deals... I always get weird stuff in there :\ Like today it's some weird energy bar... This is just the gold box where you click "Today's Deals" up on the top right? O.o

I might sign up if I decide to get demon's souls, a good chunk off ECA right there. Will the codes work for anything gaming related off amazon(accessories, hardware, games)? And to get something to show up in your gold box you just put it in your cart and...where exactly am I going to look to see if it gets added?

But do games that you've already pre-ordered show up in your Gold Box? I've never had a game that I've pre-ordered show up in my Gold Box later, but my Gold Box doesn't seem to get a lot of games in it (and yes, I've stacked my wish list with video games and rated all my video game purchases from Amazon with five stars - I've only ever gotten Uncharted 2 in my Gold Box. :cry:)

To my belief, ECA codes work on Amazon games only, no third party seller, but I haven't tested this.
They worked with XBL points cards, so accessories are included I believe.

Once again, anyone know if you cancel an order in which I used a promotional code, do you get the codes back so I can use them later, or do I lose these forever?

That would also mean the code will be forced on my next order if I cancel, so I can't cancel any order in which I used the 50% off code cause it will be applied on the next order I do no matter what. Mmmmh.

I would usually have gone and done it and played guinea pig (honestly), but I also have no reason at all unless my MW2: collectors edition changes or something else comes along, so I can't try it, but would like an idea if anybody has done this or something very similar in the past before.

No, the other codes had an expiration date, but they didn't inform anyone. Now they are informing people when the new batch of codes expire.

We don't know for sure if they will expire again. Also, the ECA has not confirmed anything with the one-per-day policy.

It's better to wait for a solid response from them in their Forums before changing the OP. At this point, everything is pure speculation.

I cancelled my order for Demon Souls LE. Then I made a new order for Demon Souls LE and Muramasa Demon Blade. Got the discount on both. So looks like the ECA code sticks to your account at least for the day.

Hrm . . . I just called Amazon customer support and asked them whether I'd be able to get the 50% discount on something else if I were to cancel my order and place another one, and the guy told me no, it can only be used once, and if I were to cancel the order it would be lost. He sounded kinda confused, though, so I don't know whether to trust what he told me or not.

Kinda off topic how do you set up a personal gold box on amazon? I thought the gold box deals were for all. Anyway I think I'm going to join becuase with Madden 10 and hopefully a G25 race wheel or a tournament stick this will pay for itself.

Hrm . . . I just called Amazon customer support and asked them whether I'd be able to get the 50% discount on something else if I were to cancel my order and place another one, and the guy told me no, it can only be used once, and if I were to cancel the order it would be lost. He sounded kinda confused, though, so I don't know whether to trust what he told me or not.

Never call amazon customer service. Most of the time they have no idea what there talking about.
As much as I love amazon, there over the phone customer service is some of the worst.

Question: For the ECA discount. How does Amazon.com know that you are a member once you obtain a code? i.e. If I gave a code to my brother could he use the code? Does the email address that Amazon.com has have to match the one that the ECA has? Thanks for the help

I doubt they'd check, but I don't think it is a good idea to be handing out codes to non-members. You could order the game for him and have him pay you for it, though.

amazon's phone customer service is not the worst, it is pretty good if you make yourself clear and be nice to them. i believe any promo, discount codes, or gift cards you use will be refreshed to use on your next order, if you cancel the current order that it applies to.

I ordered four games off Amazon and got the ECA discount on all of them. I changed my order a bunch of times and can confirm that the 10% off doesn't apply to titles sold by third-party vendors. Any item that doesn't say "Ships from and sold by Amazon" on the product page probably won't work with the discount.

If you are considering joining ECA for the discount, you might want to keep that in mind, since a lot of the cheapest games on Amazon are sold by other vendors.

Thanks for the heads-up! Code issues aside, I am still 110% happy to simply be an ECA member. I know how hard it is to wrangle discounts and promotions having done a lot of fundraising for groups I was in during college, so on the whole the ECA has an overall great set of discounts and promos. The Amazon one is obviously the best one, but I'm glad to support some of the smaller businesses they have deals with, too.

Read the thread! Honestly, just try a little and you will see the codes work only once per day apparently now, so you already use the ECA code for today. It's on the same page as the gold box deals, but if you scroll down, there should be a section of Quick Picks. They aren't always games, but usually the items that pop up are related to items you've bought on Amazon or own.

Lower down on the Gold Box page, there is a section titled "<username>'s Quick Picks" where there are a few deals each day, chosen based on previous purchases, viewed items, and several other factors.

The Gold Box has deals that show up for everyone at the top, a deal of the day then some "Lightning Deals" at regular intervals. Then below that, if you've ever bought anything from Amazon and you're signed in, there are "Quick Picks" that are personalized for you, always a 5% discount. You have to have made at least one purchase from Amazon to qualify for these personalized deals.

Yes, but you have to make a separate order for each. You can have only 1 of each item with the gold box discount in your cart.

It's easy. You keep the original tab open and when you click the "Add to cart" link you do so in a new tab (control/Apple + click). This keeps the original Gold Box page open and allows you to add all or however many of your quick picks to your cart. After that I checked out like normal (since the new ECA code works on multiple items). Versus the retail it was 15% (5% QP + 10% ECA) off.

Not too shabby. And a really good Gold Box day for me. I expect the next week to be pure garbage :D

You have to open multiple tabs in your browser.... Just right click on today's deals and open it in different tabs as many times as items you want and click add to cart for one item from each tab.

Knew this worked for a while but since ECA is sup'dly applying to your whole cart I tried this with some blu-rays in my gold box today and if you do this but don't complete the purchase and then go to your cart from another tab all the multiple items are sitting in one cart with gold box prices.

I even saved my code from yesterday and it doesn't work either. I contacted Amazon.com support and they're trying to tell me that the ECA code and Goldbox are 2 promotions and can't be combined. Nice. Has anyone gotten a code to work today NOT with a Gold Box deal?

That's not the case actually since I tried with a non gold box item yesterday and still did not get the discount. I ended up cancelling the preorder to get the discount on the non bold box item but now I'm regretting it because I did not know it was good for more than one item and found out about it too late as it entered the shipping process already.

I was able to use the ECA code for Wii Sports Resort with no problem. Game came to 46.99 prior to the code as well. After taxes, shipping, and the code, total came to $54.xx.

ok... I haven't tried these codes since they came back....

had games removed from my goldbox while they were down to avoid frustration but fixed it so I should have some in there today when mine update ~2pm est...

but just a suggestion that someone that already ordered a preorder with their new code could maybe test...

since the codes are working with everything in the order.. maybe preorder something several months out. use the code. then make a new order and combine them from your account page?

Your 10% code will 'reset' so that you can use it again if you cancel your order that you used it on in the first place. This will allow you to place a new order to include your new and previous order items and have the 10% code automatically apply to all of them. I just did this on a order I placed previously after I found some additional items I wanted. Worked like a charm for me.

Now, if we can find out how long it will really take for a new code to be used. I hate having to 'stack up' orders like this. Lucky for me, they were all pre-order items.

I went to the ECA site to sign up, I dont see where you pay for the membership. When I join, which I did, they did not ask me for payment, I can log on but cant get codes for discouts. Where is the link to become a full member, with paying for it and receiving the discounts ?

Just registered on the ECA forums to join in agreement with the thoughtful post someone from CAG already posted today. For whatever reason it's saying I don't have privileges to post! Oh well. Hopefully this gets resolved soon as the games I pre-ordered aren't going to be done shipping out until Xmas, so that's a long time to wait until I can use the code again. I already got my money's worth already so whatever I guess! Saved $30 on my last round of pre-orders...

I got on the phone with Amazon's Customer Service and filed an issue, but the CSR said I wouldn't get a response for 24-48 hours... and Persona PSP is in my GB today.

Well I doubt it's ECA that's causing the problems, and I think it's much more likely that it's Amazon. If you think about it, 10% off is a great deal considering Amazon already discounts most games. Their margin must be miniscule when you factor in normal discount + gold box discount + 10% off ECA code. I never expected these 10% off codes at Amazon to last very long as a promotion.

I just signed up for ECA today and used my first code on a large order. On my first order I saved 28.09 total(some games in my GBD saved me a little over 6 bucks) A big thanks to the member who showed how to get more then 1 GBD. I had New SMB Wii, Zelda Spirit Tracks and Scribblenauts in my GBD plus I preordered a few other games KOF, Professor Layton and Persona. I'm hoping Demon Souls and Muramasa show up in my GBD soon.

Has anyone been able to order Madden with the ECA codes? No matter how many codes I use it says:

I've been having the same issue. I used it one code yesterday and was told that it was a "one code per day" policy now. So I just tried to order NCAA 10 and I'm still getting the same message. Awesome.

Codes will work but only once per amazon account (if you have multiple amazon accounts it will work 1x on each) Also you can get the discount on multiple games/accessories. Here is a nice combo Punch Out wii and contender kit for $54 (with $5 off mail code and $15 code (punchkit)+ eca. It takes off the discount off of both items. Discount still works on all gold box items.

I decided to condense my pre-order orders down to one or two instead of over a dozen, but in the process I lost a couple GB deals (paying little attention..) and noticed it wouldn't let me take release-date shipping on Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days or Dissidia Final Fantasy if the entire order was above $500. So I just have games pre-ordered that will or probably will come out this year. Hope they fix the codes (again) soon.

We must be related somehow. Aside from Black Sigil and Class of Heroes(both of which I already own :-P) I got the other 7 of those games in my Gold Box since Friday.

I understand this code thing with Amazon is unique for the ECA as they don't have many promotions like it, and I'm pretty patient that they'll get the system resolved, but it is quite annoying.

Really I could see this being solved easily for me in one simple way: Amazon allows coupons to be applied to open orders. So many of my ECA codes are used on pre-ordering games in my Gold Box. If I could order Demon's Souls today for instance, and apply the 10% discount after the fact, there would be no problem. Then again, this is a problem I've had with Amazon for a while vis a vis placed orders and modification/addition abilities.

Glad I read this thread before buying today.

I went and added all the items in my goldbox as well as Pikman, since it seems (for now) that the ECA code is a one-time use. Since they are all preorders, I can always cancel the games later if I change my mind. At least this way, I'm getting my fee back.

Well, if that's the case and not just some glitch, the ECA really should have let everyone know. I ordered beatles rockband (game only) a few days ago and now my discount is gone. If I would have known I got one shot, I would have added a ton of games to my cart to preorder at least. The ECA has really screwed up a lot, and this is just the icing on the cake

Okay, people after me have stated it, but to reiterate: the codes currently work once per Amazon account. You can't use a second code after you've used the first one. Hopefully it will be fixed next week.

My nickname is the word "East" followed by an X. It's pronounceable. Now, looking at your name, how would I say that? I thought maybe it was some initials put before a last name; it confuses me greatly.

Not it isn't illegal in any way, since the ECA states this are BONUSES to your subscription and are subject to change at any times. Sucks, I know but nothing you can do about it.

Just wait and see I guess. (I hate waiting)

I defended them before but now I'm just pissed... I missed 3 games yesterday and am going to miss Demon's Souls Deluxe today. I honestly figured that the problem would be fixed for sure this time but it's like they find a new way to screw up every time...:-?

Same, I honestly doubt this was done on purpose. I think it was just a miscommunication. Maybe they were trying to get a one time code use to link it to your account and someone misunderstood what the ECA wanted then just made it one time use. :lol:
