Hmm, the first was so awesome, I hope this isn't a case where the sequel can't live up to expectations, no matter how good it is :(
But here's to hoping it does!

I can see it making fun of all the rereleases, like:
Greedo shoots first.
Han-"Hey! I was supposed to shoot first"
Greedo-"No you weren't"
Han-"How about we both shoot at the same time"
Greedo-"Alright, on three"
Something to that effect

Hopefully they won't touch it up so much with new technology and effects and just let the actors roll out the jokes like in the first one. I would hate to see it all hollywood-ed up.

It was posted on Fark, so they're probably getting hammered pretty good. It took a couple times of reloading to get it to go through for me.

I had high expectations for the first one and was very disappointed. Great cast but poor script. Hopefully, this one will be better.

I wonder if Mel Brooks can make a comeback? Arguably, his worst period came after Spaceballs. He had some pathetic movies- The worst was Robin Hood, Men in tights. That was a sad piece of comedic filmmaking.

The original was hilarious. I haven't seen it in a hell of a long time.
I loved it!

Yay!! Oh Joy oh Rapture..I would love to see this. Mel Brooks is one of the greatest comic geniuses of our time that is sadly to say, very much under appreciated.

The one Mel Brooks movie that I would like to see truly done is The History of the World Part 2. The first one is hilarious.

Damn....I didn't know there was soo much love for "Robin Hood- Men in Tights". I did not laugh at all when watching that movie. Maybe it was the mood I was in...
But still, I stand by what I said. I didnt not see the Dracula movie though. I have heard that movie stinks.

We'll have to see how this one shapes out. Mel could have some fun with the prequels, but the movie will have to be genuinely funny to succeed. That can be hard to achieve at times...
If he wanted to go off on a tangent, some of the sci-fi clunkers from recent years might be easy targets. "Battlefield Earth" or "Lost in Space," anyone?
Here's hoping that the movie actually comes together...and that it'll be good when it does.

I wonder if the dicision to do this wasnt based on his currently doing a remake of The Producers... 2 movies for the price of one (since he's getting a tax break for filming The Producers in New York)

I genuinely like most of his work. Considering he made Blazingf Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Robin Hood, The history of the world part one, etc.

I haven't heard any love for High Anxiety...one of my personal Mel Brooks faves...
In any event...I would hope it wouldn't be tamed down...I would think that some of Mel's humor would be tough to pitch to a studio in these "politically correct" times - can you imagine a movie like Blazing Saddles coming out these days?

I hope he doesn't reuse any of the characters from the original. The loss of Candy would be bad enough, but then we'd have to deal with middle-aged Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman... it'd be like making Indiana Jones 4... oh wait, they're doing that too... shit...

I still haven't seen Spaceballs. I want to, though.
I watched Robin Hood: Men In Tights years ago and loved it. For some reason, I bought it on VHS about a year ago and haven't watched that copy yet.

I don't know... My gut instinct tells me that this will be a prequel, or at least a mockery of the idea of a prequel. Maybe Mel should just edit a bunch of bad CG into the original, and call it a new movie. :)

That is one that I never ever got as a child. Only until I was about 16 did I realize how great that line was.
