View Full Version : Has there ever been a lamer summer song than Lean Back

I was out of the loop all summer and just saw this video. No offense to the rappers on it because they are alright but why a song about a dance move that takes about zero % talent to pull off. I mean cmon it would be harder to go out on the dance floor and bob your head or even spin around in circles. Rap and RnB is really starting to show signs of jumping the shark I think

Well, a few years ago there was a worse summer song. I think it was called Summer Girls by girly-man boy band LFO. They suck, the song sucked, and I'm glad I don't see anymore releases from them.

Oh yeah, as for Lean Back...There's a remix using the beat and Notorious BIG lyrics. I even think it's an official remix because I heard it on the digital radio that comes with digital cable. That was the tightest and best mix of that song. Otherwise, I can't wait for it to die out.

There has been lamer songs, but I agree Fat Joe has just gone downhill. Don Cartegena was a great album, and he did a song another great song before that, but I forget the name. You can really tell how much he slowed and dumbed down his lyrics for the mainstream.

Didn't Chapelle do something like that at the VMAs? I don't know, but I heard something about it. Anyways most of the rap songs you hear nowadays are pretty much lame. Though it is entertaining because it's just funny stupid. I mean you can make a song about anything nowadays and then have a catchy beat and it would sell. Lean Back would be like some kind of good parody song like "Lean back, fall back" something like that. The G-Unit thing can be just fun to mock or so but man people at my school can really annoy the crap outta you after saying it so many times.

But I gotta agree that "Who let the dogs out?" was a lame song.. and I am so sure there are even lamer songs out there.. just too lame to remember.

edit: Can't spell Crap without Rap..... HAHA Just kidding.

I remember seeing that before lol sucha good laugh when I first saw it too.

There was something similar in the History of Rock and Roll. I saw it about 10 years ago in a music class when some old rocker said "Rap is short for Crap". I still laugh whenever I think about that.

seriously guys, I can never have any disrespect for Fat Joe. he's part of a east coast based hip hop crew called DITC (Diggin in the Crates) which have many classic joints. The Late Big L was a part of that group, consisting of a total of 8 members.

Fat Joe follows a formula to sell records, make some crappy ass song as his single for a good album (such as What's love got to do wit it got to do wit it wit it). It works for a lot of good mainstream rap artists to sell platinum without making a crappy album.

also Fat Joe introduced the world to Big Pun, who despite his short career was one of the best emcees of the time.

Rap and RnB is really starting to show signs of jumping the shark I think

I remember when bands use to put actual effort into songs and vids. I remember when R and B groups had actual bands that played instruments (Earth, Wind and Fire anyone?). That's why I love R and B from the 70's more than any other time. The music had so much more feeling. Now rappers sample those same songs to DEATH. Other than perhaps De La Soul, Outkast, Nappy Roots, and The Roots most rap groups today are just plain lazy. They throw together just any old BS and think it will sell. That is why I am very selective about what little rap I still listen too. Most just don't deserve the public's money. People will wise up eventually and stop buying this garbage and demand a better product.

The worse song this summer had to be h00bstank's 'The Reason'. Now I don't like the music to begin with, but the song is just terrible(see their performance at the VMAs if you don't believe me). Plus, their sell outs. They used to be a crappy rock band. Now their a crappy emo band.

No one seems to have addressed the real problem with this song, or the current state of Pop-Rap (as I like to call it). Lil' John has fucked up sooooo many songs this summer with the same beat it's rediculous. The Usher song "Yeah" was pretty decent but soon after that EVERY Pop-Rap song had that same fuckin beat! Jesus, talk about recycling! To make things worse, for some reason Lil' John thinks he can take crappy songs like lean back and make it better. This guy needs to crawl back into that dirty south hole he came from.

I'd say the decline began when Pac and Biggie died. They earned their way to the top, not just with a good beat but meaningful lyrics. Rap Artists (except Eminem) who came up after Pac and Biggie died are trying to fill shoes they have no place filling.

I really highly doubt that G-unit is dragging him down. Since every groupie doesnt care about the BS that 50 cent has caused in the rap game, they just want to hear G-unit's new shit, which will make him sell records. I do agree that certain parts of G-unit could be going down, but once you hit mainstream you can bounce back a lot easier than if you are a coming up rapper. I think 50 cent is going to either be killed or totally destroyed by all the hate that no one will like him anymore, but Young Buck, Yayo, The Game, and even LLoyd Banks are still pretty strong and will thus keep G-unit alive, besides man, they have Dre, Snoop, Eminem and D-12 , Xzibit, and many other top name rappers and producers on there side to keep G-unit alive, maybe not the indivual rappers but the Group will be around for a while.

On a side note the original Lean Back isnt all that great the remix is the shit.
And for all you Eminem haters that love Tupac, Afari Shakur just signed Eminem to do another Tupac CD, so he must be somewhat decent compared to the rest of the game.

What are u talking about? If anything without Pun, Fat Joe would have never had a career. He introduced Joe and the whole TS to the world, and put them on his CD's and singles. No one really paid attention to Joe until after Pun passed on.

Secondly to everyone acting like Eminem is the savor of Hip Hop... please listen to his new single "Just Lose It"... it makes "Lean Back" sound like a classical opus in comparison.

I loved "Quality" but "The Beautiful Struggle" is simply not that great an album. "I'll Try" is a poor mans "Get By" and about half the album sounds awkward with kweli talking about stuff that just doesn't fit and being off beat or just plain sounding like an internet backpacker flow wise. I think perhaps all the praise went to his head and he tried to make an album that was fairly deep but could still appeal to the masses. Outside of "Broken Glass" and the title track I really don't see any songs that I'll care to hear again a month from now ("Around My Way" has a great beat and hook but the verses are kinda weak and sing songy"... same for "Black Girl").

Let's hope Nas and Mos Def can salvage what has been a pretty sub par year for Hip Hop.

I think if you look past the semi mediocore beats that his lyrics are great. I don't get what you mean about stuff that doesn't fit. And his flows are ridiocoulsly good. I like the CD alot. Not at good as Eternal Reflection or Quality but its good and a whole lot better than a ton of stuff that has come out in 2004.

Oh yeah, as for Lean Back...There's a remix using the beat and Notorious BIG lyrics. I even think it's an official remix because I heard it on the digital radio that comes with digital cable. That was the tightest and best mix of that song. Otherwise, I can't wait for it to die out.

That Biggie mix is crazy though, anyway I like that song, the remix more than the original, but in general I like it. I go to the clubs a lot though, so maybe that's why. The one song I don't like is "Tip Drill" I mean the song is cool, but all these dumbass white girls pointing out what they think is a "Tip Drill" just baffles me... all I can think is come on you dumbass you have no clue what the song means, so just don't... ya, just don't.

All these rappers could be doing better songs but it's not what sells. Songs like Lean Back and G-units shit is good for when you're driving wit your friends are hanging out in a club u could care less about the lyrics but aslong as the beat and the chorus is hot then they got at hit. I just hate that they overplayed the freaking song.

If u wanna hear how fucked up Fat Joe's got it download Sh*t Is Real Pt. III I'll tell u right now it's more emotional than any other shit out there cuz u feel his pain.

and how come it seems all the non-threatning rappers like Common, Mos Def and the rest of em have mad white fans.

It's funny cause he used "shit" several times, maybe just copied and pasted the song name.
