For those of you who don't know (or care for that matter) I work for a school system in SC. Monday morning, I came in and my department was immediately called into emergency meeting. Turns out that someone had set a fire at one of our schools over the weekend (late Saturday night, they think) and we had to go assess the damage.
So our department head, our systems analyst, and myself go out to this school. It's split over two major buildings, and the fire only afffected the first building. It wiped out the main office, a couple of classrooms, the cafeteria and couple of other smaller rooms. The first building is no longer usable due to the smoke and water damage (at least not usable for kids).
We're looking over the damage, and I'm pissed off. Not because of the destruction, mind you, but because four days prior I had busted my ass setting up a new router and big-ass network printer in the main office. All that work for nothing.
I should note that on this day, classes at this school had been cancelled for obvious reasons. I should also note that the local press, including the CBS affiliate, were covering this. I was tempted to forge some documents, but held back. Anyways, we're walking around this building and this guy walks up. He says "Hey, what's going on?" I told him there had been a fire and he looks alarmed. "I need to see if my little girl is ok."
"Dude (yes, I called him dude), the fire was Saturday night. They didn't come to school today."
"Oh." And he walks off. Who knows where his child his? He sure doesn't know.
PS- No, you may not have your two minutes back.

Hah hah. That's actually pretty funny. I bet his daughter told him she was going to school and is probably going off smoking the weed.

Well, atleast you know how to setup it up. now, when you do it again, you can do it even faster. But, what I would do, is milk it and make it an easy day.

Shortly afterward, the guy remembered he doesn't have a daughter and that the really vivid dream he had ten years ago about his girlfriend getting pregnant doesn't count.

He's probably one of those parents who leaves for work before his child leaves for school. He hadn't heard about it on the radio and so your comment caught him off-guard. Kind of understandable if you think about it for a moment; if you are suddenly told that there "was a fire at your child's school," your first question wouldn't be,"Well, when exactly did this fire take place?"

I would buy this explanation if not for the fact that this is the only school in a small southern town. Even the most out-of-the-loop person knew about it by noon on Sunday.
Plus this guy didn't look dressed for work. Unless he modeled jogging suits and bling-bling.

Funny story.

*snort* ...sounds like it's more likely that he's the kind of parent who doesn't *get up* until AFTER his child has gone to school...and didn't think to look in her room before going for his morning constitutional. Hmm. Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind being in a position to jog around during normal working hours. Plainly, this fellow somehow has the know-how to afford his lifestyle, while I must toil daily for my games. I mean bread.

Is it possible that the girl's parents are divorced and that she lives with her mom?
That would make sense...if the dad had heard that there was a fire and he didn't know that school had been cancelled or when it had happened, of course he would assume that his girl was at school. It might not be as bad as it sounds...
On the other hand, if he does live with his daughter, this asshat needs to pay. Take care of your children, damn it!

The girl was probably the one who started the fire, knowing that the school would close down and her stupid ass father would not find out. Just so she could go and smoke weed on Monday

All I can think of is Kindergarten Cop. "Dominic, the building is on fire!"

It's also possible that he could've been a random person trying to kidnap a kid.

in all fairness, he could have had an appointment with a teacher/admin and come from work...ofcourse he could have been huffing glue in the alley next to the school as well
