Hey,
I've been looking for a copy of DQV that isn't too expensive for a while now. Either it's been too difficult to find or it's $40 (too hard to swallow right now).
Guys got any leads?
Thanks!

I think it was on sail at Best Buy but forgot for how much. I'll check two-morrow on way back home

I set up a price alert on this site to go off if it's ever $20.

you can get it used for 26~ from GS using this weeks coupon, if you get another used game as well...

Totally YMMV, but I found a copy on the Manager's clearance rack at BB for 80% off. It cost me a whopping $8.
It's hard to say what will end up on the rack, I've seen some new games lately. Keep looking for that elusive DQV

Thanks shajek, I've heard the DQ series was on sale at various BB's...mine normally only has copies of ZooKeeper

Is DQ5 already out of print? I went to 3 gamestops and a best buy and didn't find it. All 4 places had copies of DQ4, though. Picked up DQ4 for 20$ as it was the last copy at one BB, even though I don't have a DS yet. Checking on amazon, it seems that sellers are already jacking the price up already over msrp. I'm planning on getting a DS within the month and plan to play DQ4/5 as my first two games.

Yeah, I don't what this game's deal is. I actually had it preordered for ~$35, but ended up cancelling because Dragon Quest IV dropped fairly quick and I figured V would be cheaper by the time I got around to playing it. Instead it went out of print right away. Did IV tank or something, so they only did a tiny print run for V?

I looked all day, no deals on DQ5 locally, I think I may have to just buy it before it goes off the shelves. I don't know why it's so weird Ryuukishi, it's like DQ Monsters: Joker, which dropped down to 7.99 at some retail stores and is still 29.99 at some other places! I know DQ5 never came to the states prior to this, and DQ4 has the multi storyline epic which a lot of die hard rpg fans hate. Plus I think 4 got lower reviews than 5, if i can find a new copy at this point I'll be happy

I waited and waited for a deal on this game and it never came. I eventually bought one at a Gamestop used in a buy 2 get 1 free deal with edge card. I think that will be your best bet. They are even hard to find used at Gamestop. I searched for months for a complete copy and finally lucked out a few weeks back. If you don't see an Amazon deal around Thanksgiving sales I don't think you ever will on a new copy.

One of my local GS has had a used/mint copy of DQV for a long time. It was traded in about a week after it's release. I've been tempted to pick it up during a couple of recent coupons or a B2G1 but I'm really waiting for a drop. I would definitely pick it up at $24.99 (before a coupon and Edge, of course).

I checked online today to see if any "nearby" gamestops had a copy of the game. One of the three gamestops I went to yesterday was listed. So I went in and the first guy I asked says no, we never carried the game. But, sure enough, the next employee says, "No, we may have a copy."
*Other employee looks on shelf*
He finds a copy, but unfortunately it was a gutted one. I bought it anyways on sheer impulse. Due to the fact that it's a cartridge game, I may be able to live with the fact I bought a gutted game. The case looks to be in great shape, and the manual had the response of one being opened for the first time and was pristine. I'll keep looking around for a true new copy, but 43$ for a gutted DS game seems like a tough pill to swallow and I may wind up returning it.
Quick question, are ds games usually covered in some sort of plastic sleeve when you open them up, ala SNES games or are they uncovered within te case?

frys.com has it for $35, but then there's shipping. I just bit the bullet and paid full price, minus $10 RZ cert I had.

Just checked out my local Best Buy yesterday, there was one copy on the shelf but it was full MSRP.
ETA: It's $37.69 w/ free shipping on Buy.com. Not much of a "deal" but better than paying MSRP + tax in the store.

DS games are usually in the cartridge slot inside the case. There is no "plastic sleeve" ala GBA and SNES games.
Just a question. Why the plastic sleeve question? Have you never bought a new DS game? Do you even own a DS?
I'm not being critical, just wondering since it seems like a weird question.

If you look at his previous post he actually doesn't own a DS. He's looking to buy one pretty soon though.
Only time you'll see the DS games come in sleeves is if your buying a used or display copy from Gamestop. They usually keep the box out on display while keeping the manual and games in a sleeve.

I've also been waiting for this game to drop. I wish amazon would do the goldbox they did with 4. That was such a steal at 19.99.

I've been keeping an eye on this and waiting for a deal too. Looks like I might snag one at MSRP just to have it, I have some store credit which will make it easier to swallow.
I got the last several Square Enix DS games (FFIV, DQIV, TWEWY) after they dropped to $19.99 and was planning to do the same with this one, but I ended up paying full price because I was going on a long flight with an even longer layover and needed something to kill time. Now if this is becoming rare, I guess I'm glad I got it when I did. Of course, Tales of Vesperia refused to drop in price for a while and seemed like it was out of print and becoming hard to find right up until it dropped to $30 and then $20, so you never know.

Yeah, I just bit the bullet on this one. It's disappearing from Amazon, Best Buy, and Gamestop, so I think they did a smaller print run on this one, and I don't want to miss out on it. I think it'll end up going up in price rather than down, like the GBC remakes.

Thanks for the heads up, just ordered and will return the gutted game to gamestop.

Buying one tomorrow. I was debating the DSi vs the Lite, but target is giving 30$ off the lite this week, and this made my decision a no-brainer. A Lite it is for me.

Thank you. The gamestop copy actually looked to be in pretty good shape, but I hate the idea of having a gutted copy when I can have one come in shrink wrap and save 3$ in the process. I hate the policy gamestop has. Once the games out of its shrink wrap, it becomes used in my mind, regardless of what the sticker says. I miss the old days where some off the games would come with a separate sleeve/case. Oh well.

Not really a reseller but I am tempted to pick up some copies of this and hold onto them. They really are getting hard to find.

Regardless of the Target deal, going with the DS Lite is a solid choice. The GBA slot gives you access to a library full of solid games. Still, the $99 price for the DS Lite is awesome. Enjoy.

Thanks, just picked up the DS a few hours ago and am about to embark on DQ 4. Waiting in the wings, once it arrives from buy.com, is DQ 5 :). My RPG withdrawal will finally end at long last.

OMG, don't remind me. I picked up ToV for $60 not long after I heard it was going out of print. A few weeks later and the price was halved. At least I used a gift card on the purchase...
Want to wait and see on this one, since Squeenix tends to be fairly good about reprints and DQV hasn't even been out for a year yet (and I hate paying the Tax), but at the same time, I'm very much tempted to get this sooner rather than later.

I was just on frys website and they have this game for $2.02 available for store pickup only. I have my doubts that they have any but it does say "store pickup: available" on the website. I don't live anywhere near a frys but I thought someone might want to check it out.http://www.frys.com/product/5838683?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

They have been out of stock long before it hit $2. Their inventory checker is wrong for this and Final Fantasy CC echoes of time.

I picked up a used/mint copy of DQV at GS during their b2g1 sale. It had been traded in within a week of it's release. I was just waiting for a b2g1 sale to come along. You can't beat $18+tax (paid using trade-in credit).
