Ok here is the scenario.

I have the RRoD. My console is going to be sent out soon and in the meantime I have a friend with a spare xbox that he is letting me borrow. If I put my HDD on that console and download tracks for Rock Band or new XBLA games, when I get my old xbox back will I technically have items that will only be able to be played offline on his system?

I know that in any case I should be fine to play my content when logged into live, but I have been known to bring my xbox to location that isn't hooked up to internet.

content is bound to the console when downloaded, so on another console, you will only be able to play on your gamertag. so i would just hold off, it takes 2-4 weeks to get your console back.

It varies really. They -say- they do the license transfer while it's at the factory or whatever, but I've never heard of a case where the content was just fine. You could just re-download the content when you get it back and test it, otherwise if you really have to just do the license transfer yourself.

I was thinking of getting a Jasper arcade model and doing a license transfer online, but I'm afraid that if they actually did the transfer when they get my xbox they would undo what I've just done.

if there is any problems you can just call MS so they can associate your gamertag and system to that content.

My girlfriend could use her account to play my arcade games after I got a new hdd and transferred stuff, so she just call MS and it was surprisingly quick and painless affair.
