It looks like we might finally be facing some clans and end our CAG feud. :-# We need as many CAGs possible to represent our crew (hopefully a full 16). Due to their frequency of play, the following CAGs have earned the honor of knighthood within the Knights of the Round Princess. Fat Princess CAG Nights are held on Wednesdays and Sundays. ChibiJosh, Kandal, and Evergoo are the hosts. If you would like to join our game night, please post your name in bold using the example below.

How to Participate on CAG Night:
In the game's main menu, select PLAY WITH OTHERS > PLAY WITH FRIENDS
Join any CAG in the ACTIVE CAGs list OR
Register evergoo to greatly increase your chance of joining



CHAT ROOM

Speaking of IRC, I thought I'd create one since this will help minimize confusion, organize games, and serve as a place to socialize during game nights. Obviously, voice chat is preferred but any means of communication is better than no communication. Joining the IRC is completely voluntary.


On every game night, the IRC will be active ~30 minutes beforehand. Please join the IRC so that the hosts may provide the CAG community with a smoother online experience. We will be searching for the strongest internet connections and doing some test runs before the CAG Night begins. Users will also receive technical support from the IRC community if they need it.

IRC = Internet Relay Chat, it's a fairly old chat system during the early days of the internet. Being a fairly old system, it isn't really that newb-friendly but it also means that it's one of the most robust and widely used chat systems out there. My office use a private/internal IRC server for communication purposes.

I like the IRC system that the OP set up for us, pretty much bare-bones "pick a user name and hit connect" server. No need for manually typing in an IRC node or even use a dedicated IRC program, ala circa early-90's

Hey, anytime man. I'm glad you were able to join. It's been tough getting into games. I've been getting kind of frustrated with it. I often see a couple other cags playing, but its usually a coin toss on whether I can get into their games or not. I would like to give a HUGE shoutout to Wolfkin for helping me out with mIRC as well as testing out various online host settings involving private slots only. We spent about an hour to ensure that tonight's event will play as smooth as possible. So if you see Wolfkin on IRC, please give him props.

Last but not least, I've decided to host the IRC 30 minutes before the game night. Just join the IRC so we can get a headcount on how many people to expect. We will also need some hosts with very strong internet connections. I will post some text in color whenever I need to make an important announcement so please do not abuse the color system if you know how.

The games were pretty smooth lag wise, but voice chat was kinda wonky. I was stuck for a few minutes during a game too. Definitely looking forward to more CAG games. Most fun I've had with this game yet.

Sending PSN Chat invitations is more burdensome for me than just asking people to join the IRC.

We need to relay information quickly to determine who can host the most players. In my opinion, I think more people have access to desktops/laptops within reach than wireless keyboards/PS3 keypads to be able to type quickly.

You are not required to join the IRC but if you are having trouble connecting, it's easy to get answers quickly because it doesn't interfere with the gaming interface.

Was that in the first round, on the Black Forest map? If so, yeah, that was an awesome game save. I personally quite enjoyed when I was able to sneak into the red base, grab the princess, and escape within the first couple minutes of the Cove/Tide map. Cheap, yet suprisingly effective. It's the Fat Princess version of the Zergling Rush.

I don't think IRC is a dumb idea...it's an easy way to get all of us to a central point of communication that we can all stay in while playing. If something happens such as disconnects, everyone will already be in the same spot to get back to playing.

I just want to say that this is like my 4th or 5th time ever using IRC. My first time was with Goozex and I instantly knew how to use it once I joined. If you bother hopping on, you will learn that chatting on IRC is as easy as cake. ;)

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. I think we were able to help ~5 CAGs join our game because of IRC. By the way Dingleberry, I thought you were the best player consistently on the Blue team based on what I saw. Dark Mage posse with Priests on the outpost made it very hard to capture. :lol:

But seriously, I'd like to see someone organize 15+ human players via PSN's Chat function and come out saying it's easier and more effective to do than IRC. I've done numerous CAG Buzz Nights where there were 4-6 CAGs and organizing Buzz via PSN Chat, sending and hoping they accept invites, and wireless keyboard was much hard than Fat Princess and the laissez-faire IRC.

I think it's you that completely missed the point....The point of the chat room is to ORGANIZE the game. It is NOT to talk about the game while in the game. If we get disconnected, we go in the chat to see what's up and to reorganize to get the game going again.

And just so you know...out of the 6 people that were on the team I was playing on, I'm pretty sure 5 of us had mics.

Anyways, I think we're all missing one of the finer points of the thread by derailing and turning the entire thing as Mic vs. IRC. The IRC is there for pregame "who the hell is going to host this crap" and "WTF I got disconnected for no apparent reason".

As I said before, this game is currently held together by scotch tape and elmer's glue, and it doesnt help the fact that the PSN network is still lacking in the "Party system", unlike XBL (and no, that statement is not meant to entice another tangeant/flame war, it's just to reiterate my observation).

I've been thinking about possibly splitting FP into 2 CAG nights to accommodate people's schedules but there's one major concern I have: dividing our audience. For example, let's say Wednesday can garner 20 CAGs but leaves behind 5 CAGs. If I also host Sunday, I fear Wednesday might lose some of its steam since some of the 20 CAGs may join the other night instead.

I've been trying to get CAG Buzz Nights back forever now but no one responds in the CAG thread and if they do, they accidentally forgot about it on Sunday. I think my 1.5 month absence had something to do with it. :lol: I'll post in the Buzz thread again and see if I have any takers.

GGs everyone. Some of these levels are very imbalanced (e.g. beach with super tunnel) but I enjoyed playing Black Forest (1st level) the most. After 2 Fat Princess Nights the score is Blue 1, Red 1. Let's see what happens next week.

Last but not least, shall we make games with only 20 private slots and let other humans join in? We have ~60 CAG PSN IDs but for the past 2 nights we usually have at most 20 CAGs. Plus, the bots in this game aren't too smart, especially with lava. Any thoughts? :-k

heh, it was tons of fun last night! I did run into a few annoying bugs though. For example, on the Great Gourge map I blew up the side of the blue castle but wasn't able to walk through (invisible walls FTL). I saw my teammates running through so I guess it only affected me.

The catapult was also pretty buggy at times. And on the last match for some reason both sides could hear each other.

Evergoo, I suggest just dropping the players down to 24 instead of opening up. The game is actually pretty good with less players.

I played last night. It was definitely better. Not perfect yet, but a lot better. I was able to play a full match with 25+ and it went along fine. Host left and then the game couldn't find a new host thought 1 minute into the second game

I couldn't connect to nfs3freak/"destructo" (no way I'm typing out j0r leet-speakz) when my power was still up. Connecting to sailorme had the red snail. From what I read on IRC while I had power, people were getting red snails with destructo.

Maybe the connection problems haven't been FULLY fixed with the latest patch? Or maybe my Great White Northern tubes can't connect to Arizona XD

So it looks like I am still searching for a Wednesday host. Anyone care to take on that role? Below are the responsibilities. I think they're quite basic. People who have previously joined the IRC should have an idea of what the host's responsibilities are.


Have a laptop/computer in the same room as your PS3 in order to join the IRC
Stay active in the IRC from 4:30 pm pst to 7:00 pm pst (doesn't necessarily require the host to play the game for 2 hours; just answer questions and provide technical support)
Find two game hosts (need backup in case of disconnections) who have strong internet connections (20+ Players)
Accept PSN Friend Requests (I've already taken most of the load)

We could remove bots by making less private slots, but that would prevent some CAGs from entering into our game since other online users would occupy them instead. Maybe shrink the game down to 12 or 14 this Sunday? :-k

Yeah, a game like this is just asking for some kind of clan support or some such feature. Playing with and against CAGs during these game nights has given me a better understanding of overall strategies for classes and maps.

Well, with the way it's set up, it's kind of heard to do play against a team of other people.

if we all were on the same team, it would most likely just be playing against all bots which isnt that fun. we would have to challenge another boards FP players. maybe like ps3trophies.org or something (if that board even has an FP night).

But then there's the whole issue of trying to get everyone on the same team. I hate that I can see my friends playing online, but won't know what team they're on, or if I'll even join their team in the first place :/

Well, we could just have someone jump in a public game, preferebaly one that is relatively full in one side) and then start joining the game. When a team wins, we could just start getting together by switching to the losing team. From my experience the winning team always stays full while the losing team barely has anyone.

GGs everyone. Based on some suggestions, we shall be doing a 32-human Rescue the Princess this Sunday. ~12 slots will be saved for CAGs. The rest will be open to the interwebs. Maybe we can become a clan after the first match? Team Red...for Blood!

Yeah, it's possible to start a game with unfilled reserved spots. And, yes, if it is full, you're pretty much out of luck. I don't think it's every really been full though. And people will drop out before the end so you can always retry after about an hour or come into the IRC and we may be able to stop after the current game to add more players or something.

Fat Princess CAG Night will happen tonight @ 5pm pdt / 8pm edt. IRC @ 4:30pm pdt. We will be playing a 32-player match with 12-14 slots reserved for CAGs and the rest will be open to the world. After Game 1, switch to team red so that we may be a CAG clan. 8-)
