View Full Version : How do I search for specific phrases?

I'm trying to find specific games in the trade forum by using an advanced search. However, it won't let me search for full game phrase names, like Super Mario Galaxy, for example. Even if I type in "Super Mario Galaxy", I'll get all results that contain Super, Mario, and Galaxy, thus resulting in a lot of unnecessary thread searching.

I use the "show posts" option so I can see the context before I read the thread.

That's definitely an upgrade over just seeing the thread title, but it still doesn't show the match or matches in the box. This is really the first time I've used the search for specific games, as before I'd just make a trade thread and bump it every now and then while letting other people do the searching work.

Try "super+mario+galaxy", usually the regular quotation works for me.

I still get the threads/post that match a single word in the quotation.

I'd just go to Google and search "Super Mario Galaxy site:cheapassgamer.com" (without the quotes). That triggers a search of this site alone for the phrase. I'm not up to speed on my boolean lingo these days, so maybe you can use plus signs and/or quotation marks about the SMG itself if needed, so long as that second part is off on its own.

Might help. Obviously you're sidestepping using the built-in search of the forum, but this almost as good seeing as how the built-in could use some beefing up.

Lol, that works a lot better than the CAG search. I'll have to see if I can narrow the search to a particular forum on the site somehow, as a particular user shows up a billion times in the search I did since his progress on the game I'm actually looking up is in his sig, heh.
