I am talking about headsets like the X4 and the Tritton AX360. I am looking for the headset with the best sound, and allows you to easily discern in game sounds with chat voices.

Also, is the surround sound in these headsets good at all? My whole life I have been using the speakers that come standard on TV's and now I have to buy a pair of headphones since I will be using them in my college dorm. Also, since I will be playing a on a 22 inch monitor, I will be pretty close to the TV, so I don't think I will need a wireless option.

So for you CAGs who have used such headsets, which ones do you recommend? I should also mention I am looking to spend ~$150 or less.

I did some research and it looks like the AXPRO's are the headphones to get. Can any CAGs tell me about their experience with these, that is assuming any of you have these, haha.

The AXpros are good headphones, but if you're looking for really good sound, go with the Sennheiser HD 555's. They may not have a mic on them but they are the best sounding headphones under 100 dollars and sound much better than any gaming headset you will find on the market. For voice chat, just buy a Zalman Clip-on Mic (new users can't post links so just search it on amazon) and if you want AMAZING sound and the ability to make the voicechat louder than the explosions going on around you buy the Astro Mixamp (google it)
You can get the Sennheisers at Amazon also.
You probably don't need the Mixamp, I don't have one and the only problem is that when playing games with awesome sound and lots of explosions (1943) I can't hear my teammates very well.

When I first put on my HD 555's, and the xbox startup made its little ding I thought they were broken because It sounded like I was right beside the Xbox. Also, when you have headphones, you hear noises you didn't even think existed in games.

Sennheiser HD 555

I use my Sennheiser HD555s for music on my computer. Sounds beautiful with a Creative X-Fi Platinum and FLAC files.

How do you have your headphones hooked up to the Xbox/TV? I might try that sometime. I get confused because I have mine hooked up to the front audio panel without the need for the fat plug-> 3.5mm adapter.

I have them plugged right into the headphone jack on my TV. At first I assumed that it would be better to get an RCA splitter and plug the headphones right into the XBox audio cords, but the internet says that doesn't make a difference. If you really want 5.1 there is a way but it's complicated and I probably wouldn't notice the difference.

My problem is last week I had my headphones sitting on my couch and my friend walked in and accidently stepped on the cord which ripped the headphone jack out of my TV. Luckily the headphones are fine, only the Fat plug to 3.5 adapter is broken but now my TV won't play sound at all. That would be the only reason wireless Turtle Beach headphones would be worth it, don't listen to what Cheapy D says, for the price they are shit.
