View Full Version : Good place for replacement jewel cases?

I recently bought a whole bunch of nice PS1 games while at a pawn shop the other day. While the discs, artwork and manual are all in good condition the cases are all jacked up with cracks, stickers, etc. Does anyone know where I can find some regular sized jewel cases? I checked best buy and FYE the other day, but all they had were slim cases and whacky colors. If it comes down to it I'll just check online but I wanted to see if there were any B&M stores around that still sold them. Thanks!

Target has 10 packs of Memorex cases for $3.99.

If any of those games are the double-decker style cases with the black piece in the middle (RPG style packaging). You can pop off the clear parts from the black part and replace them with the backs of standard jewel cases. Most people don't realize that you can do that with the double cases.

Meritline, (which I've ordered from before, no problems) has a 100 pack for $28 shipped.

I second this place. I placed an order a bunch of different types of cases (single, double, and quad cases) for PS1 games. They screwed up by only sending me half the stuff I ordered, while the other half were things I didn't order. They fixed it for free and let me keep the other stuff. Plus, the cases were very high quality. But the best part is that you can order a low quantity of products (usually start a 5 to 10)... most stores sell them in very large quantities- more than I'd ever need.

Unfortunately, it's more expensive than Target even before the shipping is accounted for. As I said earlier, Target has 10 packs for $3.99 + tax. Easily $1.00 cheaper than that site minus the shipping. The website from the poster immediately after me is much cheaper than Target, though. 100 cases for $32.00 shipped (in my case) is going to save me $7.00 in the long run. For low-quantity cases, Target is the best.

I wound up ordering 100 standard cases from the first site posted as well as 50 of the dual packs (It's nice to have extra black pieces for when I get cracked spindles, etc.).

For all the other eBay sellers here, I highly recommend swapping cases out on every jewel-case game you sell. It has raised my feedback DSRs a phenomenal amount ever since I started doing it. A nice, mint case gives people a false impression that the game is pristine and takes a lot of focus away from the condition of the actual disc.

Wal-Mart sells the 10 packs too, although the price eludes me at the moment...

I'm definitely gonna have to order some double-disc cases, but they're OOS right now :/

Hey thanks for the advice. Yeah, walmart has them too... I ended up getting a 10 pack there for $3.94 or something, basically $4. For the most part they seem to be great, but I tried to replace the front of my Strider 2 case where the manual/cover art goes, but it doesn't fit... it's almost like the case is too wide but it looks to be the same size as a standard jewel case game.

All CD cases vary just a bit (especially the more unusual ones), and sometimes that millimeter makes the difference between a snug fit and not working at all.

Just fiddle about with it, maybe take the part off of another game- you should eventually find something where it all fits.

Double and single jewel cases have different front case styles; they're not interchangable.

This isn't nessecarily true- all of the double disc jewel cases I own use a standard front piece (and only 1 requires a special back piece). Usually it's just the disc-hub piece that's unique.

Of course, having never seen a Strider 2 in person, I don't know if they used a non-standard style case on it, which does happen (I'd kill for a replacement case for my PAL version Shenmue 2 on DC, but I doubt I'll ever find one cheap.)

I'd seriously just try a few random different fronts, I have had cases that didn't fit quite right with 1 combination of parts be just fine when I mixed and matched with another set of parts. Also, look carefully at how the disc-hub connects to the back. If it's a regular back, you could try changing both parts to get a better fit.

Sleevetown may be expensive, but they do have vareity that you won't find anywhere.

I managed to make a $30 order and wound up replacing alot of cases, even found a case for dvd for 8 discs.

Definately a place to not just stay away from, if you've got 1s and 2s that you need swapping out and in larger quantities, don't shy way from Sleevetown.

So, you're saying you sell crappy condition games in a shiny case? :applause:

As for me, my suggestion is to hit up yard sales and flea markets and find sellers getting rid of CD's for 2-4 or more for a buck and find the best cases there if you don't wanna pay out the ass for shipping from any website.

I decided not to wait on Sleevetown and ordered from www.checkoutstore.com (http://www.checkoutstore.com) (found their site via their eBay store). 50 quad-disc cases for $34 shipped, or $0.68 apiece, so cheaper than Sleevetown anyway. I may go back to Sleevetown if I decide I want some clear disc trays.

So, you're saying you sell crappy condition games in a shiny case? :applause:Better than sending out crappy condition games in crappy condition cases. I've got my own CD resurfacing machine that I paid $300 for (a Venmill Skip-Away) so I can remove most scratches and and give a shiny new case. The only thing that can't be helped is the artwork.

The flea market idea is well and good, but at this point, I'm selling enough that I need a bulk supply of cases on hand.
