Hey all,

Question for you fellow CAGs out there. I just got 2 very large bags of VHS cassette tapes of various movies from my folks (they're moving to a smaller place and are clearing out stuff). Would people be interested in purchasing or trading or something else with VHS tapes?

I was planning on just taking them to the local goodwill store (for the goodwill and the tax writeoff), but I figured I'd ask here. Just in case some CAG out there doesn't collect them or sell them or something.

Any takers?

Check to see if you have anything that hasn't been released on DVD. I know one I am looking for is the VHS of the 80's version of Tuck Everlasting. It never got a DVD release.

Hmm, good call. Is there a website I can check, or just a situation where whenever I come across one, I try to find it on amazon.com?

I can't think of a site at the moment. If I find one I'll post it though.

Wikipedia is usually good about listing information on video releases, so that'd be worth a shot too.

I'd also suggest that, aside from movies that have never been released on DVD, movies that have been on DVD but have gone out of print might have some demand as well. Out of print DVDs can go for ridiculous amounts, but if all you want is the movie the VHS version would be an option.

I have a VHS tape of a Slayer concert that was never released on DVD. Unfortunately, my VHS player no longer works.

Do they still make VHS players?

Yup, you can still get them in combo players.

I still have E.T. widescreen, Die Hard Trilogy deluxe widscreen and Star Wars trilogy deluxe widescreen (none of that extra crap Lucas inserted on the DVD versions). A few other odds and ends but those are the only notables (and available if anyone is interested:)).

The only VHS tapes I have are old WWF events. Mainly stuff from the 80's and earlly 90's.

still have about a third of my martial art collection (its currently sitting at the 436 mark) and about another 200 tapes of various kaiju and tokusatsu (no way I'm giving up my full run of subtitled Ultra Q) from my tape trading days

I have an old Ninja Turtles toy chest in my basement filled with VHS. Mostly stuf that didn't get a DVD release, VHS screeners of various TV shows (Kids in the Hall!), and my old anime fansubs that I can't give up. Sentimental value, you know?

Yes some stores actually sell vhs players. I saw a walmart that had 1 left and some combo players.

Seconded. My mom taped all the episodes back in the day, so I'm thankful for that, but I'd really like to own it all on DVD.
