I have never bought a strategy guide in my life but plan on doing so for the upcoming game Muramasa.

Its just one of those games that looks so cool that I want to collect all the merch around the game. Are brady game guides any good? Are they worth the money? Do they have lots of additional pictures or pull out posters? Thanks.

It depends on the writer instead of the publisher. For example their recent Vesperia guide is total crap as it doesnt have any maps or cover any of the extra.

Like in previous post, it all depends on writer instead of the publisher. Prima and Brady are well known for sub-par guides(aka giant manuals), but some are really amazing, and they're well worth the original msrp such as Lost Odyssey from Prima or Star Ocean 4 for Brady. Both of those guides have well detailed maps, useful tips and display all possible side missions during xxx time frame.

It's a community based website. The contents of those guides may vary on writers as well. Plus, some of us don't want to read a wall of text. They're some things pictures do better than text especially when it comes to detail maps.

And the majority of niche game guides(like Muramasa) come in very slow.

KOF XII guide was actually pretty useful, i agree taht it depends on the writer. SFIV guide was a joke.

Any opinions on the Fallout 3 guide and is there going to be a GOTY guide?

The Fallout 3 guide is very good (it's big too), but it's not really necessary. I borrowed it from a friend when I played through the first time, and there were only a few times where I used it. If you can find it for a good price, I'd say go for it. If not, you don't need it.

It's thorough and pretty enjoyable to page through, however there IS a GOTY edition coming out in October that covers all the add-on packs, though they do sell two or three separate guides for the add-on packs currently--My guess is that if you can find the original Fallout 3 guide for a penny do that (I suspect they'll be pennied as the GOTY guide date draws closer), otherwise wait for the new one with all the content.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but the title of this website is cheapassgamer, right? Cheap, as in saving money? If you'd rather waste money on something that you could get for free, then you're at the wrong place.

An online guide =/= a physical, professionally published guide. Your curt attitude is wholly unhelpful.

You're not getting the same thing for free. You're getting a completely different source of material... sometimes better and sometimes worse. Oftentimes, we pay a penny for those guides. You really don't have a right to judge since everyone values things differently. I'm sure you spend money on crap that you couldn't pay us to take.

Reread the OP's post. It seems like he wants a physical copy of a guide as a collectable and/or something he can flip through for the pictures, in addition to actually using it. GameFAQs guides can't compete in that respect.

why are you mad that people want to buy a guide? does this effect you negatively somehow? if people want to buy a guide they can, also some stores reduce guide's to a penny. is that not something that could be considered a cheap ass gamer thing? now i agree with you that guides are worthless, but some people like them. and just because they buy a guide does not mean they "are at the wrong place"

Most of the information from them can be found online so I don't really think there worth the price.

Skip the guide and just use this.

That is of course if you have a constant net connection available. I keep my laptop close by when I play, so for me it's a non-issue.

Are any paper guides worth it anymore? Seems like a waste of paper when there are so many good websites.
