Is this game integral to the Silent Hill time line?

I have the second and third pending in and was just looking for a place to start.

the other reason I ask is my gamestop has the first game complete for 13 bucks and I would pick it up if it is necessary to understand the others

I never got to the end of 3, but I've been told that 1 and 3 are linked story-wise.

1 is very much linked to 3 and it also the best SH in the whole series IMO.

Get it. Every SH game is amazing, except for SH4 which, from what I played, was a bit below average for Silent Hill.

SH1 is a must own. I am still kicking myself in the ass for selling it awhile back, especially since it's pretty rare now. SH2 is my favorite out of the series, followed by SH3. SH4 is good, but not great.

You don't need SH1 to know whats going in SH3, but it does help a bit. Sh1 and Sh3 tie together pretty good. SH2 is stand alone, and has no link to either 1 or 3.

Totally get this game. Brilliant. Takes gaming in a direction it hadn't been before, or since.

You have to play it to the end (then read a plot analysis) to see why.

Oh - watch the intro before playing.

Welcome to Hell. Silent Hill.

They really need to remake Silent Hill for the next generation. It would be a shame for it to be forgotten because it was limited by the technology of its era. It's one of those games that should stay available forever.

Play Silent Hill 1 before you play 3. You will understand 3 more if you do. 2 is unconnected character wise to 1 and 3, but is by far my favorite. As for 4, I've only played it for about 30 minutes thus far, so I can't tell you if it's connected ot not, but it's very good so far.

I am a huge, HUGE fan of the Silent Hill series. That being said, #1 is the scariest, but I am not sure how u will feel about its graphics in this day and age.

in keeping with a PS1 game, it is also a LOT longer than its sequels, and it is becoming HTF.

If u intend on the playing the others, and don't mind some PS1 "blockiness", then I insist u play SH1, as it will really help u enjoy SH3 a whole lot more. #2 is the highlight of the series so far, but be sure to get the GH version as it ports all the XBox extras to the PS2.

I beat SH1 back in the day but I don't have the game now... Any deals on it around? I want to play it again before I play the other ones.

Well, the only Silent Hill I've played is the DC of 2 on XBOX and I must admit, I HATED IT.

How can people like this game?!?!

Its not scary at all (sorry, running around a foggy town full of handicapped people who vomit on you isn't exactly terrifying to me), and its just plain boring IMO.

And before people get on my case, I DID play it through to the end. I just didn't enjoy most of it. Except for the part where the chick joins you......I had a gun at that point and I thought "I wonder if I can hurt her...." Sure enough, one shot = GAME OVER. Hahaha.

3 and 4 DO look interesting to me, but after playing 2 I'm VERY wary of getting 'em.

Plus, WTF did 3 not come out on XBOX? 2 and 4 did but not 3? Pretty lame IMO.

$9.99 at Game Crazy. :)

I played SH2 first on Xbox, then SH1. Still scared the piss out of me. Those little faceless kids with knives hacking at your legs are so fucking scary. So awesome.

I have no Game Crazy or Game Rush near me so I got to stick with EB and Gamestop.

I did pick up a mint copy for 13 today. Only problem was a little dust on the disc.

Now I got to pick me up a PS1 memory card

If you want some horror on the cube, then get Eternal Darkness. It's very different than Silent Hill, but it's great anyway.

SH1 was my fave IMO..the originality of it at its time was insane. It was so incredibly disturbing, bizzare, and on a level of its own. What wowed me the most were the incredibly large areas to explore (unlike 2 or 3, one was oriented around wandering around in the city alot..To add to that feeling of disorienation. AMazing game.

2 & 3 were alright..they failed to innovate and scare like one did(pyramid head came close)..JUst improve graphicswise, and with different storylines and small gameplay issues.

4 is pretty good...An improvement over the past 2 games in every way. =) Id suggest that too.

the first one is def the best imo, but i think what did it for me was that it was new and original... but as the series has gone along, things have just gotten more and more f'd up.

i would highly recommend getting the first one tho
