Got a flyer that advertised some deals on console trades:
PS2 system + 5 PS2 games = $150
XBox system + 5 Xbox games = $150
Gamecube system + 5 GC games = $100
GBA SP system + 5 GBA games = $75
GBA system(old one i am sure) 5 GBA games = 50
PSone Mini system + 5 PSone games = $50
PSX system + 5 PSX games - $35
N64 system + 5 N64 games - $30
DC system + 5 DC games - $30
Not sure if there are any exclusions as for as games. I plan on calling tomorrow and checking.
Not spectacular but I bought my PS2 for $70 and I know I have some games I paid a lot less than $10 bucks each. Plus I only play Xbox lately.
I could make my money back somewhat for a trade.
Just an FYI...Hope its not a double post, I looked back a couple pages.
DOH! sorry didn't realize I could still edit my original post.
Ok one more time. sorry. to answer previous posted questions since I have the flyer in front of me. This is the fine print:
"System must be in working condition. Trade-in credit must be applied to purchase in same transaction. Game boxes and instructions are required. Not valid on previous purchases. While supplies last. Case for Games program does not apply to this promotion. no substitutions can be made. No rain checks can be issued. Customer may be responsible for sales tax in some states. See store associate for complete details Typographical errors are not the responsibility of EB Games. Offer valid 10/3/04 to 10/30/04"

I have some questions.
-When does this end?
-Mandatory Box and Manuals for both game and console?
-Is this in cash or trade in credit
Anyway, thanks for posting this cause I don't think anyone else has.

It ends 10/30. Any game on the exclusions list will not apply to this offer. You can also get $100 store credit for a working PS2 or Xbox right now, the computer will bump it up automatically after the cashier hits total. I'm pretty unhappy because I traded mine in for only $70 last week towards the smaller one coming out in two weeks.

Yeah, you gotta have em. They ll often let you get away with no box,or instructions but no cables will get you shutdown for sure.
On another note. You think this is being done to move some of those PStwos they'll be getting? I thought about bumping up but I dont really see the point unless you are a rare case/have special needs. (in car, etc) Yeah its cool to have the "newest" one but unless you have a launch version ps2 or are semi abusive, I think yours could last until the Ps3. Then PsTwo will price drop (like the psONE did) and youve got a brand new unit instead of a couple years old one, for the same price.

Thank you. Let's pretend some little kid made his parents buy him a PS2 for Christmas when they were 200 dollars. All right, 200 spent.
Now, what if he asked for 3 games that Christmas? Now we're up to 350... And then, well, to capitalize on this deal he'd need two more games... and kids are ones to make their clueless parents spend 50 on games, so, 350 for 3 games and a system, now, with two more, we have 450...
So, EB is giving us 150 dollars and calling this a "deal"? I mean, even if you got your system and games for cheap, you still aren't doing too well with this. And you don't even get money, but credit? AND they're making you use the credit the same day?
People, if you want to unload some systems, please, do it smarter, don't give into EB's satanic rituals of giving us crap in exchange of stuff we spent hard earned cash on.
Even if you think this is a good deal, you won't after you realize what you have done, sacrificed five games and a whole system for 150 bucks credit. You know if you put an ad in the paper you can get like, possibly double that in cash? Or even Ebay you'd make more than that, and you'd get MONEY not more purchases for EB...
And what would you get at EB? More games? Well, so, let's see, basically, you traded in 5 games and a system for 3 games...

Ok, Nephets through post got me to thinking, what person or situation WOULD this be good for. Since I love such mind puzzles, heres what Ive come up with.
Guy who MUST have the new PS2, would pay cash for anyway but this makes it easier.
Somebody with a spotty working machine, especially older xbox. Go in, get it to pass inspection. Buy the OTHER machine (they are gonna look at ya funny if you dump an xbox to BUY an xbox) then come back with the reciept for the new machine (or better still, go to another EB) and swap BACK to the system you want. Yes, I realize its a little work and you probably are spending at least $25 cash/or games to trade up to a new one, but to me it be worth it.
Wanting to change systems. Ps2, xbox, tired of, want the other, cant (too young) or dont (too much of a hassle) want to sell on ebay
Other than these few limited situations, I agree fully with Nephets, you are totally being screwed by this so called "deal"
Oh and just to help out some CAGers, if your ps2 wont boot games up unless its from the menu screen (with the cd pictured) its probably about to DRE or die. Now would be a good time to use EB to upgrade. (esp to the PSTwo)

Can anybody confirm that a PS2 or XBOX system will get a 100 bucks by itself? If so, this is actually not bad ..
I am pretty sure that when the PStwo is released, the regular PS2 will drop in price to $99 or so .. so if you trade yours in now .. you can get a PStwo later for $50 bucks more or rebuy a brand new PS2.

I respectfully beg to differ. Having been around for the top loader (nes) the toploader 2(snes) and the Psone, I can say I dont remember the regular units getting a price drop. If so it was nominal, not to the level your suggesting it could. People will still buy ps2, even the "standard" ones, during the holiday season IF the big games push the system like they think it will. Also, I think most stores paid at or even $150 for these units. I remember Sony saying how $150 is the rock bottom they can really go. (I bought at $180 and remember reading this and being reassured I only lost $30 but got my machine a year earlier) Plus, while they may be evil, EB aint stupid. They arent gonna give you $100 credit for something if they think the units are going to go for $100 NEW soon. Say what you will about EB, they are smart, ruthless, but smart.

theres no reason for a price drop on any system around the xmas season. the only system to ever drop around xmas was the DC cause it was dead and they was cleaning out the stock. YOu wont seee a price drop till May like every year. I dont play my xbox anymore , i would trade it in for 100 bucks but its got something wrong with the drive half the time so i wont. + i always keep the 2 year warrenty on all my systems so i will probally just got to BB and trade it in

Im afraid you now own that xbox my friend. Once the seal is broke, very few people will touch it. Not eb, gamestop,GC, not even microsoft themselves. Best you could do is $50 from that llama guy. just put xbox and llama in google and it will come up.

I have not done it yet. My Xbox Gave me the error code 21 and the statement "Your Xbox needs service. Please call Xbox customer support." So it is dead at this point. I may be able to get a Harddrive to put into it if it will work. My Broke Xbox is old 1.0 or 1.1, the new harddrive will be a 1.6 so I am not sure if it is compatible.
If I did change it and it works, Ebay should be a viable way to move I would think. As long as I disclose that the seal was broke to replace the harddrive. I would think that would get better bids than just a broke unit.

A broken seal is the kiss of death, even on ebay. People worry that youve done more than you say youve done (and since most wont guarantee returns or shipping, its a big gamble) You are welcome to try if you like but Im telling ya, talk to the llamma. He is HUGE into the scene so he knows just about everything there is to know and prices all over the inet.

"Original PS2, you're off the air!"
Trade-in credit must be applied to purchase in same transaction.
That ruins is right there. Cash would've been good.
They've had that fine print on several of their flyers. Seems really odd to me that they would do this. I thought stores loved it when a customer walks out with store credit because
-It's no money for them up front at all.
-The customer will have to come back to the store to use the credit and more than likely they'll have to kick in some cash for the purchase, too.
-Some customers will forget/never get around to using the credit so it's like they got whatever was traded in for free.
But maybe they like doing it that way because some customers just use a portion of the credit and forfeit the remainder or end up spening more than they eventually would have because they have to use all of the credit right then. (No waiting for a sale or price drop.) Seems pretty non-customer friendly though.

THERE ARE EXCLUSIONS. A customer traded in his Gamecube and about 12 games today. The POX titles did not work. Also on the conference call today we discussed taking in broken systems as well. Turns out the register bumps up the prices of the games, while keeping the broken system price the same ($30). So while you won't get $150 for a broken PS2 + 5 PO games, you will get more then normally.
Obviously you must include all of the hook-ups, but how many controllers must you include?

1. There are excluded games.
2. Games must be for the same system that you are trading in.
3. The deal is only valid if you have a PS2 and 5 non POX games, if one game that you have is on the POX list the whole deal is a no go.
4. Must trade in all offical Sony stuff with the PS2(i.e. Controller, A/V Cables, and Power Cord, meaning no 3rd party stuff)
5. PS2 does not need to have the box and instructions.

You are correct in that the flyer does not state "some exclusions do apply," but when I processed the guy's GC today I tried using some POX games to give him more credit in the long run, but it wouldn't work. (Put in 2 POX titles with 3 PO titles, and only the PO titles bumped up in price) Will some stores honor POX titles? I suppose so, but it'll certainly vary.

Just an FYI... the hard drives in xbox's are locked and the password to lock them is tied in with the system. So replacing the hard drive would not have worked for you.
But... Installing a mod-chip on that x-box would allow you to get around it.
Hence, it is only useful to people who know how to do that, or have other uses for the Xbox.

My ps2 is running a little slugish, ....i'm going to trade it
Okay, I went to EB today just to look around. They have this deal going, starting today. The MANAGER told me if I traded in my old PS2 and 5 games, I could get the new PS2. I could use ANY games, including the very cheap and crappy ones, as long as they had box and instructions. She even said I could trade in JAMPACKS! These are super cheap at the local CC. I had to give them one DualShock 2 along with the system, cables, and 5 Jampacks. Seems like a good deal to me, but this may be YMMV, as I am sure she wasn't supposed to take Jampacks. But I wasn't complaining!

Any time an offer says "select" games, it means ones that are not on the exclusions list. I pity the associate who bumps up the value of Jampacks for this deal, especially when their district manager comes to do the audit.
And yes, it really is $100 for a PS2. It still says $70 when a clerk looks it up in the seach engine. They actually have to key in the trade-in and hit total. The computer bumps it up to $100 automatically. This only works for store credit though, they can't do cash.
Oh and a complete trade-in is: system, one controller, power cable, av cables. Box/instructions for systems are usually not needed.

You can also get $100 store credit for a working PS2 or Xbox right now, the computer will bump it up automatically after the cashier hits total.
Can anyone else confirm this, EB employees or otherwise? I went in today and asked and they said $70 for an Xbox (with no games). Either they were uninformed or this is YMMV?

The "normal" trade in value for a PS2/Xbox has been $70. I asked about two months ago.
Still not sure what to do now though.

LOL...giving a customer $10 credit on a game that they sell for $5. I would promote him.
I'm also going to take my Xbox in with five demo games and get a new Xbox! I bought mine used, and I don't want it to crap out on me.

Just got back from eb and the flyer doesn't say anything about game exclusions but when the assosiate pulls up the deal in the computer, the pox list is in effect. Since I was told last night by another guy that there were no exclusions, he still honored it. I got a pstwo for my ps2 and 5 crappy games...

Im a little worried about the YMMV part of this. I WOULD trade in my PS2 if I could buy 5 crap sports titles (online of course) then add them to my ps2 and trade up. But, it seems the computer shuts that down and its up to the manager to override it. Im not that lucky to get THAT kind of manager. Instead, Im stuck with 5 crap sports titles, ugh.
Anybody know any titles around $5 that ARENT on the exclusions list I could pick up somewhere? Also, can you have multiples of the same title? I have 2 FFX-2s I could part with.
Ravaged
10-05-2004, 02:46 PM
Just call up and ask if there are any exclusions to the titles. If they say yes, then you're better off just getting some cheap 10$ games that aren't on the list, then getting the 25% off + saver shipping, so you still save about 2$ per title, and I'm sure there are other places online where you can find games that aren't excluded for cheap.

That varies by store. When I called to ask about the trade-in value, the girl specifically said if the seasl is broken, you'll only get $30. So I assumeat least the one near me will check.

I just called my local EB and out of the few PS2 games I have here are the results.
Acceptable for this deal:
Wild Arms 3
Devil May Cry GH
Final Fantasy X
Not Acceptable for this deal:
Grand Theft Auto 3
Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Madden 2001
Timesplitters (first one)
Red Faction
Virtua Fighter 4
That is my local EB (Altamonte Mall), I tried one other and the guy would not even tell me, said I had to bring them all in and he would scan them.
That's odd. Vice City isn't even on the list. Neither is Virtua Fighter 4.

I was told by customer service that whether or not the store will allow you to get deal #1 on an xbox and xbox games is up to each store, but officially, there are the deals going on. Also, for clarity, they are all in-store only and the exclusion list may vary from store to store (according to again, customer service).
I think the only worthwhile deals are xbox and ps2. I'm going to trade in my PS2 and a crappy game or two and just pay the difference for the PStwo.
Hope this helps some of you who might have been confused.

Man, this deal keeps getting worse and worse... 30 bucks for a Dreamcast and FIVE games? That's awful... if you want to dump off your systems, put up an ad or sell it on Ebay...
I couldn't agree more... I couldn't believe the posts before this that loved the idea.
On another note, EB hasn't taken in DC games for a along time. Does this mean we can get in on some DC games when these dimwits start showing up giving away all their stuff?
The following pertains to the Concord Mills EB Games at Charlotte, NC:
I called and they said there were no exceptions, so I went in with a PS2 and no games. I bought 5 used sports games to trade back to them for $10 each. Turns out the POX list is in effect, so the computer wouldn't let him do it. I didn't hold him to the phone call (5 sports games for $50 is just so dirty…), and just traded in the PS2 for $100 down on the PStwo.
Keep in mind that my PS2 was barely working... It takes about a minute doing nothing before it loads a game. Not to mention it was an earlier model with no IR port, no progressive scan, and no DVD-R support. Free modem + a working PS2 isn't bad for $50 isn't bad.
At any rate, at least on guy at the EB games of Concord Mills knows you can’t trade in POX titles…

My understanding is you cant put it on a gift card, but you can put it towards the PStwo. They ring it up, and you get a receipt for a fully paid pre-order. Bring it in once it's released and boom, new PStwo for you. At leas t that's how it was explained to me.

Wo there are a bunch of threads for this I posted my results in one but in case it will help I will post here too.
I did the deal traded Arc, WA 3, Def Jam Vendetta FFX and Vice city. Vice city wasn't on the Po but it wasn't a deal breaker i got half credit for it and had to come out of my pocket $5. This deal was great for me the controller I traded in had some wear so that willl be a trade up. I got my Ps2 at launch and although I have had no problems with it I'm figuring its due to spaz out. Plus This saves me buying a network adapter. And the best is three of the games I traded in were $2 overstock games so i made out on that deal. I couldn't be happier with how it worked out

My PSOne has basically just been gathering dust in my closet for years and I seldomly use it for anything, except the occasiional PSX game that glitches up running on the PS2.
$25 is a pretty good price for it, that's about what it goes for on eBay minus the fees and hassle. May have to look into unloading it.

I traded my launch PS2 in today. I also traded three games. They were LoTR: TTT (GH), Rygar and Goblin Commander. My receipt shows that I got a bonus for each game I traded in. That had me wondering if they're just taking any game and counting it as $10. The regular prices they were offering for these games were a lot cheaper than $10. They also fired up my PS2 to make sure that it worked. I put my $130 towards a PSTwo.

I have one question before I go out and do this.
So after I trade-in my PS2 and some games, I can put the store credit towards the preorder of the new PStwo? I'm asking because in the past, they haven't let me put store credit towards a preorder.. maybe things have changed since though. Just want to make sure.. they usually made me use it on something that was IN STOCK..
Got mine back at launch and it doesn't have much life left. Only have 2 non-excluded games to go along with it, but still seems like a nice deal.

Also, check with them if they are enforcing the pox list. I did my trade earlier tonight, and there were no exclusions -- I used Madden 2001, 2002, 2003, NHL 2001, and NBA Live 2002, all of which I purchased from ebgames.com for a total of 9.78 shipped after coupons, membership discount, and tax. The computer had no problem accepting it, but some people are reporting problems, so check with your EB first. Pretty sweet deal.

The PStwo apparently comes out the 15th according to EB, which is before GTA. I'm a little skeptical about doing it because I don't think that PStwo date is actually confirmed.. it might not be valid. That'd suck to trade in the PS2 and then be stuck with no system when GTA arrives.

I asked my EB and they said they heard they'd get some around then, but the official word from Sony is sometime in November.

It's fun when you call ahead and ask if you can do a trade-in for a new PS2 and when you get there you see EB employees wandering the store looking for cheap games to trade in. :)

there's also a deal for broken systems as well this month at EB... 50 bucks.. no cables, no controllers needed... 50 bucks store credit with up to 50 bucks in games for 5 games with the system. from what i understand, there are no exclusions. so buy 5 2.99 games from any other store and take them to eb with your broken console... 15 bucks becomes 100 with your broken ps2/xbox that was probably nothing more than a paperweight sitting in your closet.

I traded my release thompson xbox for a new one with this offer and by luck of the draw I wound up with a phillips xbox... Almost as good as a samusung or not?
I've never heard proof of which one is better, just that they're way better than the original.
The Thompson has given people the most trouble, but I had a Thompson for 2 years with absolutely no problems. I traded it in to get a Halo edition one, and now I have a phillips or samsung, can't remember.
the thompson is also the most common, which means more units that could possibly go faulty. i've never had problems with mine.

The EB I went to was actually really cool about this deal. Took in my launch PS2, plus two PS2 games and one GC game (which they took). Also had an unopened Dualshock2 (extra from birthday that I never took back) and they let me apply that at full $24.99 price. So I only owed a little over 4 bucks for the PStwo.

It seems some stores enforce the POX list (like mine), and some don't. Call a local EB and ask.
The guy at the local EB I took my PS2 to didn't even open the box to LOOK at my PS2. He asked me if everything was in the box, and I said "Yep." That was the entire transaction. I guess they trusted me, since I had it in it's original box.

finally picked up windwaker, ikaruga, otogi, and thug with 31 dollars store cred left over i applied to DOAU.
now to take advantage of the 20% off 3 used games at gamestop month to see if i can pick up THPS 2x-4 for less than 20 dollars.
the applications of this deal go on- i have a friend looking to buy a used xbox. but if he buys a working PS2 at a pawn shop for 90-110 and buys 5 1.99/2.99 ps2 games, he'll have enough credit for a new machine for what it would cost to buy a used unit. It's just a matter of finding a machine that will meet their tests.

They didn't playtest mine, but that probably had something to do with the fact that the box was unopened when I brought it in. It was the 39001 networking version that I had bought from shopnbc just before the pricedrop (I had hoped/expected it would be a 50001, and I hadn't anticipated the networking package to drop to $150, just the regular), so I thought I was hosed, but patience paid off. The clerk was even kind enough to unscrew the network adapter for me, so I didn't have to.

I thought EB wasn't going to take POX games, so I went and found four cheap non-POX games for about $25. I needed one more game so I grabbed SSX (definitely a POX game) while I was in the store and they took it.
If I had it to do over again, I would probably have grabbed five old POX sports games for about $15 and saved myself some cash, but its not a bad deal regardless.
They also gave me $10 for my network adaptor, so I'm only about $20 out of pocket.
I had my system all packed up in its original box, and they didn't test it to make sure it worked. All they did was make sure the power cord and AV cable were in there.

Well, they tested mine and screwed me out of the whole deal..
I got my PS2 back at launch and it's a little worn out, so sometimes you have to jiggle the controller plug around in the slot for the controller to work. It doesn't do it often, but it just had to do it when he was testing it. "Oh I'm sorry, this looks like it's broken.. I can only give you $50 for it.." I had 3 games, but the difference ended up being about $80-something that I didn't have or was even prepared to have to pay.
Wonderful. Ah well, I'll just keep it and hope it stays working another year or so. Still, what rotten luck. =/
You should take it to a different EB in the area, or back to the same one at a different time when someone else is working there. If it works most of the time, maybe you'll get lucky on a second test.

Why is there such a big price discrepancy between different stores? I've been told used broken PS2s get anywhere from $20-40 and working ones $80-100? Don't they all have the same prices and promotions going on in their store?

We've all realized that it depends on the store and who you talk to. My EB, as I have stated a few times before, did take Jampacks, and allowed multiple copies of the same games, even those on the POX list. You can always look into the very old Maddens for like $2 each and see if they will accept those.

I went to EBgames in woodbridge, VA today and the girl at the counter told me you had to trade in with games to get the $100 credit for the system. Just $70 without games. Of course, she had to pull out the sale paper in front of the counter to even tell me what the deal was, so she may have been confused, but just a heads up.
She also said they had a bunch of "PStwo's" in the back but they only covered the pre-orders and they hoped to have more in next week. Any of you do this in a mall? The only other EBs in the area are in malls, and I'll feel like an idiot carrying my consoles through a mall.

No, just dashed my hopes of having a small vertical system (the vertical stand is huge). But I'll probably jury-rig a harness to hold it to the shelf eventually.

Aren't there exclusions to the trade-ins for the PStwo deal though? Is it possible to trade in stuff like older sports games, etc.?

The EB I went through claimed to not get any in at all today. It annoys me that their website had them "shipping within 24 hours" earlier... So, I just gave up and went to Wal-Mart and bought one and cancelled my preorder and put the credit down for a DS. I was going to get one anyway. How the heck EB dropped the ball on this one is suprising. The new PS2's are EVERYWHERE here in Lansing, MI - as they have been since Wednesday/Thursday.

Just check through the post... But, it's YMMV. My EB was not enforcing the pox list; but some other EB's are. Call them - it'll save you much grief.

I went yesterday and the guy told me he didn't know about the deal, but there were probably exceptions on the games. I traded in my PS2, Madden 2002, NBA 2k2, GT3, Unlimited Saga, and SOE and he rang it up as $73 total. But when he put the trade-ins towards the PStwo, the total jumped up to $150. :D
So when you trade your games in, make sure to tell them to put it towards a PStwo.
Oh and my EB got 6 PStwos yesterday and had 13 preorders, he said I’d get mine in a few weeks.

I finally did the trade in today, but they wouldn't let me get the PSTwo since I was late on the reservation. They didn't get their shipment yet and it seems Sony didn't produce/send enough to stores. So they ended up giving me credit. They said that perhaps in three weeks there would be a 2nd shipment.
Is it still possible to find an eb to let me do the "pre-order?" My concern is the tax on this - $15.

Call up all the EB's in your area and see if they have any in stock. I highly doubt it, but good luck. You won't have to pay tax on the new PSTwo because you have trade in credit. I had to pay exactly $149.99 of my $150 in credit, and they gave me a penny back. They're not allowed to charge tax on a barter system.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way, tax on 150 is only 8 bucks, at least where I live.

The PSTwo also has a one year warranty instead of 90 days. Nintendo used to be the only company with a warranty that long. Good move by Sony to show that they're willing to back their hardware. I still picked up the $15 EB warranty, though. I'd rather just walk in and get a new one if any little thing goes wrong with it, but the one year is nice for all the people who bitch about DREs.

Success! I tried another EB across town and they were much cooler about it. So I traded my PS2 + 6 crappy games (2 of them didn't ring up $10) for $142 credit, and I paid the difference of about $18. Something I thought was funny though.. they gave me the $10 for a JamPack yet Sega GT/JSRF combo only got $0.25. Haha.
Anyway.. now I just gotta wait.. said they'd get more between the 22nd-29th, hadn't got an exact date yet.
I didn't know that you were able to trade in the stuff and get credit that you could use even at another time, let alone at another store.
I just double checked the trade-in offer text and I swear that it used to say that you had to use the credit immediately. Am I crazy?

Didn't get a chance to yet. I'll be passing by a couple of EB's tomorrow so I'm going to find out.
And zing, I think it was kind of a fluke at the Eb I went to. They were pretty nice about accepting any game (jampacks/demos being the exception). I was kind of surprised about getting credit myself, but I'm just glad they allowed me to get it.

I noticed this trade-in offer (in addition to all the others) on ebgames.com's trade-in offers page (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/shops/instoretradein/):
$10 extra trade-in for PO-PS2 System Expires 10/31/2004
Trade-in a working PO-PS2 SYSTEM ALL and receive $10.00 dollars bonus trade-in value with coupon. Boxes and Instructions are NOT required. May not be combined with any other offer or discount. Limit one per customer. Typographical errors are not the responsibility of EB Games. Coupon must be presented at time of purchase. See sales associate for complete details. No rain checks will be issued. Not valid on previous purchases. Customer may be responsible for sales tax.
Has anyone used this in conjunction with the $100 for PS2 trade-in or $150 for PS2 + 5 games trade-in (presumably to get $110 trade-in value for the PS2)? What's weird is that it seems to imply that it can stack on top of one of those offers ("extra trade-in," "$10.00 bonus trade-in value with coupon"), but at the same time says "may not be combined with any other offer or discount." Does anyone have the coupon that this offer references?

Assuming it's an official one, I'd guess around $10, perhaps $5.
I traded in a controller and they gave me $5, then they gave me $10 for a memory card. It's safe to say you won't get anymore than $10.
Future Shop here has quite a few of the PSTwo in stock. Only $179.99 CDN too. Very nice price. I had it in my hands and resisted the urge to buy it since I am waiting until I can do the trade in at EB.

Just did this trade-in tonight. Traded a dead ps2 and 5 games, got 150.00. Traded a perfectly working GCand 5 games, got 100. The PS2 had a 3rd party Madcatz duel force pro 2 controller, so for those of you claiming no 3rd party, :P pftftftft!.
Sony no longer makes/sends new old style ps2's anymore, so eb and other gamestores now only stock refurbished ones, with an extra 6 month warrenty for 11 more. at the end of the 6 months, the guy said come back and buy a new 6 month warrenty. Comeing across a problem though- the "new" system we picked up (put the rest of my credit to the PStwo, more due in nov.7th) will not play the hdd. it knows it's there on the browser, and can open it making the orange light come on, but then returns to the hdd icon/memory car screen. and suggestions? the ps2 has a new seal on it, and a sticker wich stated it was tested/repaired by #45 on 9/24/04

I got lucky and traded a dying PS2 and five crappy games (Madden 2001, Fantavision, SSX, Tony Hawk Proskater 3, and NHL Hitz 2003) for $150. The cashier did not check the the PS2 or games. It would have checked out anyway, except for the blue discs. Preordered the X-Box Holiday bundle with the credit and did not have to give up any cash. Thinking about trading a three month old PS2 with the network adapter, and some games for the new PSTwo. Since my system is out of warranty and the PSTwo comes with a year warranty, I'm thinking it would be worth 5 crappy games for the smaller size and the longer warranty.

I called 1 of my 3 local EBs and asked if the "PS2 w/5 games for $150" deal has a game exclusion list and he looked at the coupon and said it doesn't say anything about it on the coupon, but the games do need boxes and instructions. So I quickly ordered the 5 cheapest used PS2 games at ebgames.com. I used cag15, saver, and my Edge card, and got them for ~$11. I noticed on the ebgames.com site that they do say all trade in offers have exclusions and they provide lists for each system. But the clerk didn't say the same and I even asked him if they will take old sports games and he said they will as long as they have the box and instructions. My worry is that when I go there and they ring the games in they will say "POX-" and won't let me do it. I'll pitch a fit then!
I hope I get the games by the 30th so I can take advantage of this deal. The site said 5-10 days using saver shipping. Does anyone have any input until how long it should take?
I want the new PSTwo b/c I have a launch unit and while it works fine (I take excellent care of my games & systems) I want one with progressive scan for when I watch DVDs. Then I can get rid of my current Samsung HD931 DVI-upscale DVD player (which sucks) and use the PS2 for watching movies. Can anyone confirm that the new PSTwo does in fact support progressive scan output for DVD movies?
Thanks for the help.

I can vouch for the quietness. My launch PS2 was fairly loud and was starting to make some horrendous noises with a few games. I was beginning to wonder if it would make it until the next consoles came out, but this offer took care of that.
The PStwo is nearly silent. Very nice.
The new PS2 does indeed support progressive scan for DVDs. They have since the 50000 series, I think.

Reacap: Yesterday I traded in used PS2 & Xbox + 10 games bought, after using ten 30% off coupons from the ebgames.com game, for $14 (in store credit of course). That brought my store credit total for the night to $300. That leaves me with about $415 credit alone for this fall at EB...the employee was amazed
...I picked up my PS2 today after my trade-ins yesterday..it was met with a resounding, "Want to buy a $15 warrenty." After my strong no, the owner/manager blurts out, "With how you ripped me off last night it's no suprise, we'd give you a brand new PS2 if it would break" If it wasent for this line , "So you were the person who scammed us last night. Watch your P's and Q's, your just lucky to be still allowed to shop in here." I would've busted out the I could still take my broken PS2 and trade it in to you idoits for $100 credit.
The owner wasen't woking last night so I'm assuming the word got around on my cheapassness to get a new Xbox Holiday Bundle and PSTWO. He looked at my license and knew exactly who I was...makes me wonder what kind of shit I'll get when I go pick up my free Xbox next week...

I went to the EB in Lebanon Valley. The clerk there let me pull 5 used sports games right off their shelf and trade them right back in. All in all, the system "upgrade" cost me about $20. 8)
Thank god, too, because my old PS2 couldn't read blue discs or music CD's, as well as some DVD's. Plus, I really dig the new model... smaller, quieter, and top-loading.
Anyway, I would just like to say that this deal varies greatly. I had to call 4 stores around me to find out which one had the deal as well as had a unit in stock. In the end, my night turned out pretty darn good.
I've had my PSTwo a week now, and I love it. My Xbox also got traded in for credit towards that holiday bundle...

I didn't bother taking off the stickers, they will just put them back on anyway. If you were thinking they might not take it because they were the ones who sold it, it doesn't matter -- it is the same game as if you bought it two years ago from them or someplace else.

EB has always been better than Gamespot, at least in my area.
I just took in my old PS2 and 5 used sports games that I got off of ebgames.com for 10 bucks shipped for the new PSTwo. So for 10 bucks, I got to exchange to the new one and get an enet adapter as well. My old controller was crappy too, so I got a new one of those as well. I also traded in my old PSX and 5 crappy games for 35 bones.
They didnt even test my systems, just asked if it worked and I said yes. Of course, they did work, but it was nice not having to go through the hassle of it all.

No Tax rules and i'll probably buy the 1 year warranty, so that i am ensured that this will last until the new Gen consoles come.
