"If we were going home after work, I'd say, let's play Donkey Conga"
This is a statement my wife made during an IM conversation we recently had. I've been trying to get her into gaming for 5 years. FINALLY!!!!!! I'm so happy right now I think I am going to pop.

It's hard to play games with my girlfriend because I always beat her and she gets mad (yet refuses a handicap), but she really likes Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon.
And by the way, there is way too much pornography on this board. I give it 3 thumbs up.

maybe you shouldnt lplay at 100% then, i mean if you constantly destroy her at any 2 player game, take it easy on her

Punqsux, the thing is, that's even worse than just watching her play a game. I'd rather just play at a higher level than her (like level 15 versus level 8 in Dr. Mario) than sit there and pretend like I don't know what i'm doing. As far as two-player is concerned, we are limited to Co-Op (Time Crisis 3) or taking turns on platformers (DKC). She doesn't play DDR cause she thinks people who play it look stupid. Which kind of sucks, because it makes me not want to play when she's around, and she lives at my apartment 6 days of the week. As a side note, she convinced me to buy the DS because she wants to play Animal Crossing on it.

I got my fiance hooked with Syberia, she got into Adventure games, then into RPGs, and now I have to have two TVs so I have some play time.
For those trying to get women playing, try that formula, it seems to work wonders... they enjoy adventure games because they're easy, slow-paced and mostly cerberal.. then rpgs allowed her to extend the same sort of play into a slightly more engaging style of play.. action rpgs got her pressing buttons, and it went from there.

Congrats daphatty! On a similar note, my wife enjoyed playing Donkey Konga so much that she told me to go out and buy 3 more Bongo sets. My jaw about hit the floor. I can only get her to play games like Mario Kart and Mario Party and buying games is even harder to do.

I finally got my girlfriend to play and like a video game this weekend! Only took me buying 300+ to find one she likes. Katamari Damacy. She actually likes to play it and asks me to play it with her. Unreal. I am planning on getting Donkey Konga this weekend in high hopes that she will like that as well. Oh what a glorious day!
Edit- Also, I forgot, as an added drop my jaw to the floor moment, she has watched my new Star Wars DVDs with me for the last three nights in a row! This is like double I can't believe this is my girlfriend. She's never really seen Star Wars nor shown an interest in them, but all of a sudden, she's asking me to watch Star Wars every night, while she's playing a video game! What the hell is going on.

It looks like Donkey Konga is bring people together and causing them to buy more bongas. Im sure that was Nintendo's plan all along.

I've got my girlfriend reading comics by giving her non-superhero titles and now she watches cartoons with me thanks to Adult Swim and Samurai Jack. Maybe with Donkey Konga I can get the trifecta and have her gaming too.

I converted my girl with an original GameBoy with Tetris. We have two units with the link cable.
She also enjoys the Boat Race in Super Monkey Balls 2.
And I hate to admit this part, she whipped me in Soul Calibur 2, plus she finished arcade mode with Link, under 30 minutes, her first time playing.

Have you showed your wife Animal Crossing yet?
OT, I'll never understand why guys find implants appealing? They are so....not real!

I couldn't even get into animal crossing. I turned it off after five minutes of listening to that idiotic character (can't remember his name) speak to me on the train. Bored instantaneously.
OT - Boobs are fascinating to men. Most have never touched a fake boob so they can't differentiate between real and fake. All they can go by is what they have seen. You'd be surprised how much tactile contact, or lack thereof, can influence a man's perception and preference.

That's a shame you didn't give it a chance, D - Animal Crossing is one of WSB's all time Cube favorites. Once you get over that hump of getting started, pay off your first debt and have a little freedom in the game, it's incredibly enjoyable, and you don't have to play for more than 15 minutes at a time in any one session to feel like you accomplished something.

I almost had the same success with my wife... Here's the extent of my wife/Donkey Konga story: We were with our daughter in Toys R Us, and they had a DK kiosk up to try. My wife tried it, and said "This is actually pretty fun! We'll have to buy this game for you!" Yeah, right... for me. Anyway, the machine reset after a little bit (you know how they do, to prevent one kid from playing it all day) and it rebooted. When it came back up, it gave the normal epilepsy seizure warning. My wife said "Oh! This game can cause epileptic seizures!" I said "All game have that warning, either on the screen, on the case or in the in the instruction manual." She said "Oh..." and began playing again. Knowing that my wife is a bit of a hypochondriac, and also knowing full well what was coming next, our daughter and I headed for the "My Little Pony" section. Sure enough, less than a minute later, my wife showed up right behind us, claiming that the game made her dizzy. 8)
Oh well. She showed an interest in the puzzle game within Mortal Kombat: Deception, so maybe I'll convert her there. :D

Maybe I will give it another shot. Not sure when that will happen though. With DK at my house now and World of Warcraft on its way... Time is getting scarce around here. :D

Not much you can do about a hypocondriac except say, "I knew you were going to say that."
