View Full Version : Am I right to be annoyed by this Walmart.com ad?

So, you go to Walmart.com.
Click to go to the Video Games.
Click the Nintendo DS/DSi link.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=489934&fromPageCatId=2636&catNavId=2636

There's a banner, the right half of which says "New Nintendo Games from $14.82" - showing Bower's Inside Story. Well, I didn't really expect this particular title to be $14.82. Good thing - because when you click on the link provided, it's $34.96.

But... scroll through the list of games... not a single one on that link is $14.82. The cheapest titles are $19.82...

I think you're being too picky.

Yeah, I gotta agree. That's pretty much a standard marketing tactic. Say "from" a certain price and show a product that obviously is not that price to draw people in. And I'm sure at some point one or two of the games were actually $14.82, but maybe they should out or something.

a bit annoying, but then again it says FROM 14.82...knowing Wal-Mart's track record, im not surprised by this

bait and switch ...... if someone had the time to #$#$## Call up walmart.com and tell them you took a screen print and going to be sending it off to the BBB.

The lesser cost ones could have sold out, like FFIII sometimes not showing up in the 2 for $20 offer.

try navigating a bit and they have plenty of games at that price. it's not bait and switch. They have some at $9.82 as well.

It isn't bait and switch at all. The ad doesn't say "Game pictured is $14.98" ... even then it could just be a misprint. Some of you people are straight wacky.

I don't think you're off-base to be annoyed. It is misleading. Doesn't rise to the level of bait and switch or false advertising, but it does say "New games from $14.82" right under a big picture of Mario & Luigi. It's a natural assumption that Mario & Luigi is one of the new games that's being discounted, if not all the way down to $14.82, then at least something less than full MSRP.

If there aren't any games at that price listed (even if they're sold out) then it is false advertising and misleading. They should either change it, or list the sold out titles.

Why the hell would they list sold out titles? It's not false advertising. They've got games for sale from $14.82 and Mario and Luigi is one of the games they're selling. I don't see a problem.

If no titles that are priced at $14.82 show up, then it's false advertising. They would list sold out titles, so that people knew they weren't being fooled. That's like me saying that I have games priced from $0, but every one is like $10. When you say from a certain price, it implies that there are products available at that price.

Definitely not bait and switch. People need to learn about the terms they spout off with around here. Here's a bait and switch situation. You see a product in an ad for a certain price, which is usually a "too good to be true" price. You're blown away by this price, so you make sure to go. When you get the store, though, that product is not available. Chances are, it never was. And the store attempts to sell you a lesser product for a less attractive price, in hopes you'll buy it to lessen the disappointment of not getting the great deal. Thus, this is nothing like bait and switch. It doesn't say that particular game is that cheap. All it says is that DS games are available from that price. If you honestly believe a big-name, newly-released title was gonna be that cheap, you'd just be fooling yourself.

And I highly doubt that there were never games available at that price. They should out. Calm down.

That's not what I was saying. I just meant that it was misleading. I agree that it's not bait and switch.

I've got to say that I agree with you..but in both of your posts you said that they "should" out...I'm assuming you mean "sold" out.

I believe there are games here for $14.82. Less, actually.

Okay, then I'm good. The OP said that there weren't any, and I don't really care enough to look.
