This is what Ive been waiting for. Been hard to not drop the money on the recent PS3/directors cut bundle, but its been worth the wait for the black freighter being in the movie like its supposed to. And the digital comic and under the hood are great add ons too.

I'll go through it and check for the coupon, since $31.99 for the UE is well worth it, IMO, especially with what they were selling the Motion Comic and the TOTBF discs for separately.

Though, the coupon says it'll be released after December 1st, though Amazon is showing Nov 9th as the release date for it.

Thing is, Amazon does drop the price a bit before it releases, usually to match other vendors like DD or WM. Hopefully, we won't miss out on the pre-release pricing and the coupon will be out before the release date.

I think that may be debatable depending on whether or not you're a fan of the grapic novel (I read it yearly). In the GN, TOTBF storyline was integrated into the main Watchmen storyline.

I was always waiting for the UE but for some reason, I'm waffling. I enjoyed the theater version and haven't seen the DC. I'm probably going to wait to see the reviews on the UE before I decide. By then, I'm sure the DC will be cheap if I decide the UE isn't for me.

Oh yeah, one more thing: that cover art sucks ass.

Description: To whom it may concern,

I have just recently signed up on the Watchmen website for WB Insider Rewards, at the following URL: http://watchmenmovie.warnerbros.com/rewards . This link was inside the BluRay copy of the Director's Cut of Watchmen I had purchased, and it mentions a $10 coupon towards the purchase of the Ultimate Collector's Edition of Watchmen on BluRay. It also mentions that the $10 coupon will be available on December 1st, though Amazon.com has posted a link for the UCE of Watchmen on BR as November 9th, 2009. Amazon's product page for the UCE is at the following URL: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002IYEQR4/ . I wanted to know if the coupon would be made available in advance of the release of the UCE of Watchmen on BR, and if it would also be a coupon code that can be used on Amazon.com, as that would be my preferred vendor to purchase the UCE. I look forward to your response of this inquiry.

I did send an email to the Feedback link on the WB.com website, though we'll see if the answer they have is any different.

In the meantime, I'll go pre-order it and make sure I'm covered.

I'm hoping AMZ will drop the price some, which as mentioned elsewhere in the thread, is fairly standard.I'm expecting that any email back from WB itself (not WBShop) will say the same thing, and if so, then I'm covered with the pre-order I just put in for it.

Since I have Prime, I'm supposed to be getting it on release day, which it now says is Tuesday, 11/03/09.

Hopefully, Amazon, Walmart, Buy.com and DeepDiscount.com all get in their usual posturing contest about the price of an item for release and we save a few bucks from $41.99, like they did with the non-UCE version of Watchmen.

Is this usual for Amazon? Seems like the wouldn't put a price until they were confident in it.

Seems like I got back on the fence with this one. I didn't get any of the previous release in anticipation of this cut (expecting it to be closer to $50). Now that it's coming around and I see all the extra bells and whistles included, I'm thinking realistically about if I'll ever watch everything else, an if it's even worth it.

Looks like Watchmen completists, such as myself, will have to pony up for both versions. Although, I'm sure down the line WB will release the "Watchmen Complete Edition" that'll contain all three versions of the film.

Looks like I'll probably end up canceling my order. Would have been great if they included a cut on the disc (not a digital copy) without TotBF woven in for easier future viewing.

With BestBuy's 30% off Blu-ray/DVD sale, the Blu-ray version is down to $34.99 for pre-order. That's low enough for me for the ultimate edition. I was going to get the regular one for $17.99 but I figured $34.99 is worth it. I will probably cancel if amazon decided to match the price at some point, so I save on the tax...because I am a cheapass :)

Im not sure why everyone is hating on watching the black freighter with the movie considering if done like the comic (which im pretty sure it is), it will give a good perspective on the motivation for the ending and the mentality of the final enemy (avoiding using a name to avoid spoiliers for those that have not seen it). I always thought it was a aspect of the comic that, like a lot of other things, you dont know the purpose till you sift through everything and undstand its purpose at the end.

It'll probably change in the next few hours, since they need to ship it today for 2-day to get it to me by Tuesday. Up and Monsters Inc are both not in the shipping state either, so I'm sure they'll all hit the shipping stage before too long.

I got shafted too on release day shipping when I cancelled and rebought since I didn't see the updated price. I emailed amazon about it, and they bumped me up to one-day shipping. The confusing thing is that they said that they cannot change it to release day shipping...to do that I'd have to rebuy it. However, release day shipping is listed as one day shipping, so I don't know what is going on.
I am tempted to buy it again, pick release day shipping, and then email them to take off the shipping charge. I guess that is that their discretion though, so I don't know if they will do it.

Odd that they seemed to stiff you on the shipping, since for movies and other DVD/BR titles, there isn't a "Release Date Delivery" option listed, it's just associated with the shipping timeframe that'll get it there on the release date.

I did email Amazon and told them about Walmart's price and that I would go for it (also mentioning I understood their non-price match guarantee), so maybe if we can get some more people doing the same, we can get our price knocked down from Amazon and save ourselves some trouble.
They did respond reconfirming their non-price match guarantee, but said they'd pass only the information to the appropriate people.

Amazon doesn't accept coupons. The best you can do is email them, telling them that you have a coupon and you want to know how to use it. They may/may not modify your price. Some people had success with this in the UP/Monsters Inc. thread when trying to use the $8 manufacturer's coupon.

sell it and upgrade to this version. even if you sell yours for 10$, the extra 20$ you'll pay for this version will be cheaper than buying all the included content separately. plus you get a more complete edition of the movie with extra other stuff. its worth it for fans, id say.

That sucks... you know they'll price it pretty close to MSRP, which will be like $50 or more. So, your $10 coupon won't even get it down to sell price at Best Buy, let alone Amazon or Wal-Mart. Lame move on behalf of the WB. I thought it was going to be a legit coupon. I'll be buying this from Walmart.com. If the price goes down anywhere else before you get it, you an always return it to a Wal-Mart store.

Only reason I haven't bit on it yet , is the lack of being able to watch the Directors Cut of the movie and Tales of the Black Freighter separately. Having all the content (movie , Black Freighter , Motion Comic) in one place is convenient , but I'm not completely sold on it. :/

I hate when that happens. I also hate when you get a DVD or Blu-ray, and the white sticker on top edge of the case has been placed over the cover of the DVD, so when you try to take the sticker off, it starts to rip the cover. ARGH!!

I'm sure the guys at Best Buy think I'm crazy when I go there to buy a box set of something and carefully examine each box to make sure I don't get one that's banged up on all sides.

I THOUGHT THERE COULD ONLY BE ONE?! I hate that. One of the nigh useless skills I've developed is how to finesse the sticker off various materials so that it doesn't damage said surface. And I've also had people stare at me at say TRU when I examine a game case to make sure the cover sleeve isn't misplaced inside the case so that its edges are being crushed.

Well, anyways, Amazon sent another one out overnight delivery, and I got it today. That is the 1st time I ever received anything that fast from Amazon. Guess I am glad I picked this month to start the Amazon Prime trial.

This time the box wasn't all scratched and damaged, but there is a dent in about the middle of one of the edges on the back and some minor scratches inside the blu-ray case itself. It was minor this time. So I can live with it.

Just got mine from the $28.86 + free shipping Walmart deal. It IS a big, meaty package.

Mine was a bit more dinged up than my usual threshold, so I'll probably see if I can find a copy that's not so dinged. They sent it via FedEx, but in one of those limp bubble mailers that doesn't really protect anything. Looks like it's in stock at most of the Best Buys around my house, so hopefully I can find one that's fairly pristine. It's nice to know that there are others like me who think that if you're going to drop $30+ on a box set, it shouldn't look like it was dropped on the floor and repeatedly hit with a swinging door.

Mine came in Friday, ahead of the 16th date, and mine came in tight formfitting cardboard and thus arrived in what was satisfactory condition to me.

However, did anyone get a version of the box that was perfectly cut? Once I take off the BluRay sleeve, the text on the black box itself looks offkilter, as if they printed the text on it offsenter, slightly slanted? If this ends up limited, I'd like to think it lends this one a distinguished look, but that may just be me being delusional.

30.99 at amazon again

My copy arrived today. The box was a lot larger than I expected, but at least it's sturdy because Amazon shipped it in a bubble mailer and it appears none the worse for wear. :p

To match the price at Deepdiscount. At the end of the month when the sale ends they will probably jack the price back up to $39.99.

Not yet, I remember someone saying they emailed WB and they said it wouldn't be out until sometime in December, but you could only use it on WBShop.com

so, would Amazon not be a good place to get this if I want a copy without dings and scratches?

This seems to be a crap shoot from other has have posted. I ordered mine and it came with another 2 movies. So this was packaged nicely inside a box shrink wrapped with a cardboard backing.

Others have said it was put in a mailer/oversized envelope.

Hmm, I might try getting this with 2 other cheap movies if I can find anything good. Did you get the super saver shipping?

So, the other day I bought the directors cut because I was told that the motion comic from this set is set on 2 standard dvds instead of a blu ray disc. Is that true or not?

Also, anyone have any pictures of this set?

Absolutely false. The Motion Comic included in the set is this:

Well I'm a little apprehensive since I ordered 2 comic books from Amazon in August and when they got here one of them looked like someone had slashed the cover a few times with a knife. But I don't want to pay $50 at Best Buy. Decisions, decisions.

Try Walmart. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12960724
It's out of stock online, but maybe you can find it in store.

I'd call to confirm the price before making any trip out to the store. Once again they have the store prices may vary on there. Then be prepared to possibly have to push for a pricematch.

Just came back from walmart. Its 44.99. They refused to honor their own web price. Classy!

Also for owners of the director cut and the web comic is this much of a upgrade? Does this have even more special features? Also can i watch the movie with the freighter stuff and with out?

Srsly, all the answers are in this thread, just read. You get this one for free:

Not really.
There is no Maximum Movie Mode, haven't gone through all the special features.
No, Freighter is in with no option to watch it without.

Just got my $10 coupon from Warner. Pretty useless though, considering that WBshop.com won't stack the coupon with the current 20% off sale.

Yeah, and even if the two discounts could stack, it'd still be cheaper for me to go through Amazon since WBshop.com would charge me CA 9.75% tax.

My coupon just showed up as well, and I'm unsurprised by it as well.

And just as a reminder from two months ago, WBShop.com told me that it wouldn't be useful anywhere but WBShop.com:

Mine came via amazon fast and flawlessly. Absolutely perfect package, I don't know why you guys are so worried - if there's a problem with your order just send it back for a full refund or exchange.

I just got another 8 separate packages from amazon from my Black Friday week and weekend rampage, not a single problem with any of them. Although I wish they had just bundled everything together into one shipment to save on the packing material (and their own cost)...
