Looking for a deal on a replacement hard drive for my PS3. I usually see threads posted in the Video Game Deals forum but did I search and couldn't find any. Also, I have an old PS3 model (not slim).
Thanks!

Is the only thing we have to worry about for a PS3 HDD replacement the fan speed?

your basiclly looking for a laptop hard drive. you need a 2.5 inch sata drive with a 5400rpm to keep the heat down.
you can try sites like www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) they offer good sizes and decent prices. i order from them all the time.

My replacement hard drive doesn't work since Update 3.0 came out. The original does though.

I've been using a 7200RPM for over a year and I play at least 5 hours a day. I don't think there is any issue with heat.

Have you updated to 3.01?

yup. My guess is that this is some Sony thing where they want you to only use the hard drives that they provide.

I doubt it, Sony reps have used the ability to upgrade HD with whatever brand as a selling point against the 360.

I have a 320 gig in my ps3 and it works just fine, 3.01 here. Worked fine on 3.00 also. Something is wrong on your end if what you are saying is true.

Yup. I'd also like to add that www.zipzoomfly.com or www.tigerdirect.com are also good places to look for a drive. You should be able to find something decent on one of the three sites.

I'm not too good with hard drives. Is there a preferred brand for PS3's?
The one that caught my eye on newegg was this one:

thoughts?
thanks!

I upgraded my ps3 from 40gb to 320gb like 4 months ago. I got a sweet deal from newegg (like $64 shipped).It's $59.99 here's the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145227&cm_re=hitachi_320_gb-_-22-145-227-_-Product
the hard drive works perfectly.also not that u won't get the full 320gb u only get 263gb out of 298gb.but it's plenty of memory for me.also i had to download the whole firmware on my pc for some reason and install to the ps3 using a usb flash drive (just follow the instructions and don't install the wrong firmware to the wrong model).
