I think the sox or the astro's....the yanks starting pitching is very weak, with a tired bullpen...they have solid offense...but we so what happens last year to the yanks when you go up against a team with better pitching

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the Series will be won by a baseball team. More specifically, a team playing for either the American or National Leagues.

Furthermore, I predict that in the home town of the winning team there will be many grossly out of shape people whose sole relation to the players is by species, if that, who will run around shouting "WE WON!"

I love how people always assume fans of a winning team are bandwagoners lol. My dad grew up in new york and im a new york fan born and raised. My teams are the knicks, jets and yankees and will always remain to be the same. Heck i even pick the jets in madden 05! Im 2-9 vs those eagles and patriots that everyone started picking all of a sudden.

Hey...you didn't say that it had to be this season.

In any case, this reminds me of a story. A poster on GameFAQs said that the Red Sox will win because they've got Jesus on their side. If history is correct, then:

Babe Ruth > Jesus

Really...when was the last time you've heard someone complain about losing games because of the Curse of Jesus?

5-0 Redsox... Whos idea was it to start Washburn in game 1? He just got taken out in the 4th.

Check that... 8-0 Redsox. Manny just drilled a 3 run home run.

Only reason Anaheim made the playoffs is because Oakland completely choked.

My team is the Cardinals so of course I'll say them. No I'm not a frontrunner, I've liked them my whole life. My favorite all time player is Ozzie Smith and my favorite current player is Jim Edmonds. Yea as a New England Pats fan who lives out of the area I always get funny looks when I wear my Tom Brady jersey. So I have to explain to people that I'm originally from the area. I would have never guessed in the early 90s that i would have to defend myself from claims on being a bandwagon jumper. As far as the post is I hope the Sox finally get that ring but I think the cardinals are going to be hard to beat. Although I think our pitching gives us a slight advantage so I'm going with my sox.

I grew up in New York as a Yankees Fan, and I have lived outside of Houston for the last seven years, slowly leaning towards the astros. Although, I still love my Yankees, I'm a baseball fan first, and I think it would be such a sweet baseball story to see the Rocket close them out in Game 7 of the world Series....or even the rocket to finish his career against Boston with a world series victory.

The Sox will win it this year, and if it wasn't for Pedro staying in too long in the ALCS last year, they could be the defending champs, but hey who knows. I do know they are going to be in the world series, and it is even more likely if the Twins take care of the Yanks, although the Sox are on the road the whole post season except for the series. Also, as long as the Yanks don't win, I'll be happy, but I still think Boston has the best shot.

We need ALOT more than Urbina before that will happen.
At least they resembled a major league team this season, but the pitching and defense have a ways to go.

Haha, the resident Red Sox caveman makes an appearance on the topic. Now if they make it to game 6 of the series and whoever is playing first in the late innings of the games and a ball goes by them, they truly are cursed. And if it Mienkevitz(?)(one of the better defensive 1B) then it would suck worse.

But yeah GO SOX!!

No one is guaranteed to win the series, just look at the yanks last year. they had better pitching last year and they still didn't win it all. I'd take Clemens, Pettite, and Wells any day of the week over Mussina, Leiber, and Brown. Sure they have the hitters, but without pitching, they won't win.

I can guarantee one thing about the winner of the world series, it won't be a repeat of last year.

I dunno how they won with Brown though... All the Twins have to do is bunt it to the pitcher, make him field the ball with his broken hand.

Best case scenario is that the Twins win tomorrow, and the Yankees win Sunday. Their pitching staff will be so far gone, and ours will have had 3 days off.

Tonight (Friday) I was at the twins game and my dad got these amazing seats from his work, it was like an extra section sticking out from the field just for the playoffs where they have the espn cameras and ur like 2 feet away from the batters warming up. So first I walk to my seat and Kent Hrbek, (great twin from like 81-94) sits down but wont sign anything, then i couldnt believe it, in front of me sits Rod Carew, Harmon Killebrew, and Tony Oliva ( great twins from 61-78) and I mean Killebrew and Carew are in the hall of fame and Olivas really close. So anyways I end up getting my hat signed by Killebrew and Oliva!

I'd love to see the Cards win the series. Edmonds is one of my favorite current players, and I'd love to see him win.

And if you wanna talk about people calling you a bandwagoner, you should've seen what I went through when the Pats won the first Super Bowl. Now, I had been a Pats fan since they drafted Drew Bledsoe, and even still own an old school, bright blue Bledsoe jersey. But of course, since I live near Philly, everyone calls me a bandwagoner, cause no one could possibly not like the Eagles and like the Pats instead. I think some people still think I'm a front runner. That's when I break out the old Bledsoe jersey and be like "What now?"

Baseball Sucks major ASS! Its more boring then golf! I don't see how basball is still around. Every game if you look out in the stands there are hundreds of seats availble. How can they afford to pay these players so much money when noone goes to see a game? Pluse like hockey there are way to many games played. Maybe if they lessened the games more would go see them. Like the games mattered like in football one loss could kick your sorry butts out the playoffs!

So your reason for posting in this thread was what again?

Depends on which games you watch. If you turn on an Expos games yeah you're going to see tons of empty seats. But turn on a game in a large market like New York or Boston, every seat will be packed. The Red Sox for example sellout pratically every home game. And for a Yankees and Red Sox game good luck trying to get tickets. Baseball teams also make revenue by advertising in the ball parks and merchandise sales. Also I know both the Yankees and the Red Sox have both the YES network and NESN where you would have to subscribe to their cable channel in order to watch all the games.

there is also revunue sharing in baseball now.

I love baseball and hate the fact I live in a city with no team (exp. when I used to live 10 minutes from the Ballpark in Arlington and would go to 15-20 games a year)

and I hope the Dodgers make it to the NLCS. Steve Finley's dad goes hunting with my uncle and I got a couple of signed things from him when I was younger.

I always wondered how people who lived in a state w/o a sports franchise decide which team to support. Is it whoever's the closest or just personal preference?

The Sox in fact sold out every seat this year

I support all the teams based in Dallas still, but aside from that I root for the Cubs (because Kerry Wood went to the high school I was going to attend before I moved) and I have adopted the panthers as my football team (Cowboys are still my team, but after you spend 5 years watching a team you start to pull for them)

And I like the Red Sox, only because I despise the Yankees

Why Dallas?

I live in Indiana, about 3 hours away from Chicago. Most people would think I would be a Cub fan like my brother, dad, neighbors, and one grandfather. They would be wrong. My other grandpa raised me right, so now I bleed Cardinal red. I thought they were going to bring out the broom tonight, but Lima pitched a hell of a game, and deserved that win.

I really dont care about the NFL, but I watch it anyway, just don't really have a favorite team. If I was forced to pick one I would pick the Cowboys. When I was much younger (elementary school days), I jumped on the Dallas bandwagon to fit in, but even after some tough years I would still consider myself a Dallas fan more than anything.

Also, I am about 25 minutes from Notre Dame, and will probably be going to school there next fall, so it is no surprise that I am "blue and gold through and through." Sorry, had to use the Rudy quote.

I hate the NBA, and havent watched even a quarter of it in like a year and a half. I also don't bother to watch hockey.

The Redsox sold every single seat for every home game this year. Not one seat went unsold.

Like the games mattered like in football one loss could kick your sorry butts out the playoffs!
Ask Oakland about one loss kicking them out of the playoffs. And the Giants, and the Cubs, and Texas.

I've been a Redsox, Patriots, Bruins, Celtics fan forever. If you want to see bandwagoners, look at Lakers fans or Raiders fans.

 -- Surprisingly enough, my little brother has been a Raiders fan since they were like 2-14. They'll get their ass handed to them today by my team, the Colts.

As for myself--I've been a Yankees fan for as long as I can remember, but was only 9 or 10 when the Joe Torre era started. I've been with the Giants for so long, and the Colts became my #1 before the '99 season...right after they went 3-13. Lucky the first season I was with them they went 13-3. :)

Yeah but look at how many Raiders fans jumped ship last year. They have some hardcore fans but a lot of those west coast sports fans are too wishy washy.

I can't wait until Tuesday, why did the Twins have to lose in 4 when they could have lost in 5 and made Mussina pitch.

does it matter? hell no.

everyone keeps saying the yanks can win this and that if this guy steps up or if that guy takes it to the next level, meanwhile all the sox have to do is play their game and theyre good.

its all business this year, 3 down, 8 to go, GO SOX!

This needs to be updated.

Being from Mass I go with Red Sox, year in, year out, never see anything from it.

But I'm shocked so many people here are crazy enough that you really think they will win. Or are you all just from Boston? :D

The odds are better if Mussina doesn't start game 1, who knows who the hell they'd have to throw out there Tuesday if he pitched today, probably Lieber for game 1 and Brown game 2.

i think its better tho with moose going in game one, he'll be negated by schilling's performance, cuz schilling is just playoff clutch.

then what do the yanks have? brown? leiber? vazquez? LOAIZA?

its almost the same series as last year, u figure the yanks got a-rod and sheffield in the lineup but lost giambi, so while the production has increased, its not overly dramatic. the sox meanwhile added the best playoff pitcher in baseball(schilling has like a 1.70 era in the playoffs, hes allowed 2 or more er twice now in his playoff career, thats lights out) and they havea legitimate closer this year in foulke as opposed to that "whoever i kinda feel like playing russian roulette with" committee

the sox offense is i think better, they lost some pop in walker, but in the playoffs u dont win with just power, u win with TIMELY hitting. the yanks hit santana hard in game 1, 9 hits, but they werent timely, and ended up with goose eggs down the board... the sox offense clicks, guys like bellhorn and mueller get guys around the bases as opposed to just going for the fences everytime, and the combination works.
