Best time/deal to buy Alienware?

I am thinking about buying one of Alienware's mx17 (or whatever) laptops. I am a state employee so I'll have the 7% discount going for me anyway.

Several years ago I bought an Alienware desktop (before Dell bought them) and Alienware changed it's deals about every week. It seems Dell has a new deal about every week on Thursday. Anyone been watching these long enough to know what to expect the "best" deal will be? Free shipping/add-ons/discount? I don't expect much of any discount but I'm hoping that they occassionally feature something that would be worth the wait--I'm in no big hurry. Thanks for any advice.

Thirded. Just build your own--it's a lot cheaper and it gives more options.

For a desktop I would forth it.... but building your own LAPTOP as the OP said he wanted, isn't exactly easy or cheap - especially if it's going to be used for gaming purposes - although I personally could never imagine gaming on a laptop, hey more power to you. Regardless, 7% employee + a maxed out Bing (RARELY dell is 15% CB, averages 5-10 though) is as good as it's going to get on Alienware.

building your own laptop is a bitch to do. The best is whenever. If you buy it on the phone, ask about the dell CC (just put $500 or so on it) to bump it up to 10% off. If you are rly good, you can score a AW Orion backpack for free
