Buying COD2 might be better as a single purchase if you have ECA but not everyone has ECA, the TRU deal really only shines when you preorder 2 games. Plus if you're an R rewards member (which is free) it goes towards your rewards bucks. I think it's like every $150 you spend you get a $5 in rewards as a GC mailed to you. (i think). If anything there's still a few days for them to update their website to see if a better variety of preorders are available for the additional savings promo code.

Thank you so VERY MUCH for this! I just put in an order for NHL 10 and MW2. The TRU Buy 2, Get 1 just came at a really bad time. The only game I'd be willing to buy as part of the deal would be NHL 10, since there's no preorders allowed. So with this deal allowing preorders I like it A LOT more! I think if you just want one game, well duh just go to amazon! If you want 3 games or even 2 that are currently out, I'd go with Buy 2 Get 1, but if you want to include preorders or whatever, this is a pretty good deal.

Assuming you are buying brand new $60 games:

B2g1 = 60 + 60 + 0 = $120 + tax (if applicable) + shipping
B1g1 = 60 + 30 = $90 + tax (if applicable) + shipping

If you don't wanna spend another $30 (mind you tax increases also) on a game you may er may not really want, this is great. Games do come out to ~$45 each vs $40 each but the B2G1 requires you to spend more on something coming out NOW, out ALREADY, er WITHIN placeholder time frame.

And, this guarantees you'll get a deal on something you want coming out later in the year er next year even. Instead of passing on those new releases hoping for something this good to come up.

And amazon may be better after all the offers, but it's just like COSTCO. If you're not a member you don't get savings. And if you don't shop much, it's not worth the membership.

In for Dragon Age and L4D2. With both promos and my Batman $30 GC, it came out to $65 for both, which is a pretty nice deal. Shipping cost in addition to sales tax and TRU's less than stellar shipping speeds kills the deal. Not to mention if you buy 2 get 1 free and then sell the one of the games at a little below value on ebay, amazon or craigslist you can cut your costs even further ... whereas with this you're stuck with 2 games and nothing to offset the cost afterwards.

Plus Amazon is almost always a better deal - faster shipping, cheaper with ECA (which is free, even though it's not up atm) ... so yeah, think I'll stick with the in-store deal and take my chances.

In response to your question, are you speaking of an order placed on TRU.com? It can take a few days, they are slow in shipping items ... I know from experience. Heck, even Amazon can be slow if you take free shipping ... so just because you ordered it at 1 am doesn't guarantee anything. However, to get a more accurate answer, we would need more details and even then no one can say 100% because it varies order to order.

7% sales tax means 7 cents on every dollar. Which also means $7 to every hundred and 70 cents to every 10. That should be all the info you need. You're tax for 2 games will probably be $6.xx.

The only issue I could see that might cause your order to cost more, would be if there was some * that stated you would get a charge for split shipping because one item is a pre-order and you asked them to ship the in stock item with expedited shipping.

With that said, your total cost should be the only cost ... I've had orders from places like Hasbro.com that send bizarre receipts because the orders are split. The numbers look wrong on the receipts because they put total shipping cost with the 1st item and then don't include shipping charges when the 2nd item ships. That may or may not be the case here, safest way to know is to simply check your credit card statement to be sure you weren't overcharged. Do it fast though, because TRU will take returns from online but won't refund shipping.

If you haven't played the original Left 4 Dead, it was addictive as hell if you had friends around. The online portion of 360 is hit or miss, and remember this is definitely a game where team play is a big factor.

All in all, it was an excellent online multiplayer game but relies on you having 3+ friends with another copy of the game/system or just a really good set of buddies online to fully enjoy the game.


L4D2 should be more of the same, except upgraded in many ways. Again, relies on you having buddies or able to make buddies to fully experience the game.

You can walk down a hallway, clear out the room at the end, then turn around and 12-15 zombies appear from out of nowhere and attack you from behind. That happens alot. And the characters shout, "reloading!" about every fifteen seconds, which is pretty annoying. Most people really like it, but I'd say rent it or try the demo first.

I don't know if anyone's interested or if this has already been mentioned, but you can use these coupons on Xbox Live 1600 point cards. I added 5 to my cart so that both coupons would apply and it came out to (after tax and shipping) $18.26 per card (it would be about $15.50 / card if the shipping wasn't so stinkin high).

Thats the issue with TRU and online orders..

Search back... one game will ship at full price and then the other gets cancelled, netting you no savings, but a headache...

Others will get a flat cancel, and other people will come through no problems.

To answer all of your questions easier I'll give an example of my purchase;

I ordered NHL 10 and COD MW2. When choosing the shipping method you choose the same method for each, which if they're pre-orders just get the standard. The games however, ship when they're available, They charge you when they ship and of course want to ship as fast as possible, because they want your business and for you not to cancel your order.

When they shipped NHL 10 I was wondering why the total was so high. It totaled to $57, because they charged me all of the shipping to that order (I used expedited shipping). I guess that's the reason they charged me that much for the 1, so I wouldn't cancel the later pre-order.

You won't be able to find a deal where your guaranteed to pay this much on release day. Unless you're using gift cards, I can guarantee that.

That's why I'm tempted so much for L4D2 and Fifa!

Well, it looks like either coupons (20% or $10 off $75) will cancel the free shipping option, which is $6. So, with taxes and shipping, after coupon is about $98.40 for two pre-order games ($60 each). It's essentially more or less same as Amazon's ECA and have the orders shipped to a friend in NJ... So it's a matter of who i want to give money to, TRU or Amazon.

I'm not worried about getting the games in the mail a week later. I can always grab a copy from local store during lunch on release day and return it when the order arrives.

OP, thanks for the heads up, i was able to pre-order MW2 Hardened Edtion for $64 shipped. I used the 20% off code, which makes the game $63.99. Then i have a $10 off $50 coupon code (the one comes in the snail mail) that negates the tax and shipping ($4.98 shipping + $5.23 tax).

So, $64 for MW2 HE ($80) shipped and taxed is not all that bad :)

well maybe that math works for you, but most people have leftover eca codes that they can use, or can wait a few more days for the eca codes to be updated before ordering. so it would be $99 with $10 credit, that maybe you won't be able use before they expire but many others would.

not trying to bash the deal or anything, it's a great deal, but maybe not the best one for everyone. so please don't make it seem like everyone else is wrong since they have a deal that works for them.

this has me leaning towards this as opposed to the B2G1 free. COD:MW2 and L4D2 would be $98.xx. I can't think of a single game right now that I'd want as my 3rd game other than the newer Boom Blox game. While this particular promotion is not sorely intended for games, I believe that TRU is highly interested be the biggest video game retailer. I don't know the margin of profit for video games, but even giving $20 GC often as they give out, overall they probably sell more video games than most others. In return, they could use that to get better prices to publishers for future games. Another positive effect is, gauruntees future visits from customers to use the GC not just for games, but toys, costumes, DVDs and others

In the end, TRU is ultimate goal to generate bigger revenue minus operating budget. This also can be used to sell themselves to stock holders who'll buy more stocks at a higher rate. So this all comes around. So I think they're using Videogames as bait to lure customers to visit the store. Anyway I don't know anything for fact, it's just my assumption

Yes. Unless you use Google Checkout or Buy It Now or anything else that isn't tied in directly to your Toys R Us account for a second (and third, and fourth). Of course, they could always look at your shipping address.

Best way to answer your question is: Ask the manager at the place you originally purchased your games, and see if they will allow what you are looking to do.

It's not fraud, but yes, it's dishonest... Hell, i won't even call it dishonest. People do this sort of thing all the time. For example, you bought a game and happy, then you found a coupon for $10 off, and now pissed.... Well, obviously, you're going to have a difficult time to get the coupon applied to the original purchase. So, the simplest way to get it work is buy it again with the $10 off coupon and return it with the original receipt.

In your case is a waiting game... Just be warned though, check your receipt for return period, some says a week, some says 30 days. If your TRU order don't arrive on time, your plan will backfire. For that reason (and returning later), i find that extra couple of days of waiting is not too bad (less work and less headache). It's not like you ever ran out of games to play in the mean time.
