Steam is having a mid-week deal for the Civilization IV series, which includes Colonization for $19.99. Awesome deal IMHO.

Full contents:
Civilization IV
Civilization IV - Warlords
Civilization IV - Beyond the Sword
Civilization IV - Colonization

Link (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1618/)

Update: Sale over :( Hope everyone that wanted it got in on it. For any of you new players out there, I highly recommend http://civfanatics.com as a source for tutorials/mods/discussion related to the entire Civ series. Warning though, some of the people in there are ridiculously hardcore with calculations and all manner of things :)

Tempting. Are the civilization games fun and popular for multiplayer? What game would you compare it to with the style of play? Red alert?

I've been watching the retail version at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Sid-Meiers-Civilization-IV-Complete-Pc/dp/B0026EGO3A/ref=pd_cp_vg_1
and so far it hasn't been that cheap or I would have picked it up already. Not a big fan of digital only but will have to think about it at that price.

Is this the cheapest the set has been?It was $25 for the pack during the awesome holiday sale although it did not include Colonization at the time (even though it was released). I haven't seen it on sale since then unless you include when it was part of the 2k games "huge" pack

It is not a real time strategy game - it is turn-based. There's a demo for Beyond the Sword on Steam if you want to find out if it is your cup of tea. The Civ series is incredibly deep and it does take a bit to truly grasp but you'll know if it suits you when "just one more turn" means something to you. I have never done any multiplayer battles against other humans although I will get together with several friends and play cooperatively against the AI.

On gamersgate it was 12.99 (or 11.99 or 13.99... anyway it was around there).

Googling the sale, it looks like it was $15.98 and didn't include Colonization so really not the complete edition.

Going to get this now, also got a friend to buy it too.

Very tempting. I was hoping this would be $5 during the D2D sale. Might bite since the retail price is still about $34 on Amazon.

Ooooh I'm so tempted to get this and I'd jump all over it if I didn't consider Civilization to be digital crack. So hard to get anything done with this game on my hard drive..!

I bought it and Colonization is in my games able to download. There was a lot of confusion on the subject. I think they added it to whoever bought it game list at a later date. I don't remember it being there right after buying Civ 4, but it is there now.

So i did in fact buy the complete version for less than $20.00

I have a copy from a friend iv been playing the shit out of. Its so tempting to grab this but at the same time the complete Civ 3 set is only $5...so it makes me wonder if I just hold off will I find it in another 8 months for like $10. If I hadn't just played it though I would have grabbed this in a heart beat and recommend it to anyone thats interested.

If your still on the fence I guess you could always try Civ 3 and if you love it buy Civ 4. Civ 3 is only $5 as I said before so its a cheap ass game that lets you decide by Friday if you want CIv 4.

Could someone just answer a question about Steam for me?
It looks like I get to download the game to my PC and can re-download it if I get a new PC right?
I just never used it before but I am sorely tempted to bite on this. I hate having to insert discs to play. Any problems/cautions/info I need to know?

Yes, that's correct. And you need to get in on this. Civ IV is awesome. I've put 100's of hours in the Civ games.

You sold me. I'm an elite Civ snob. IV was the first game to make me re-consider whether there was a game better than Alpha Centauri.

It lost though. NO GAME IS BETTER THAN SMAC!!!!!

Think I'm gonna hop on this deal as well. I've never played any game in the series but have heard plenty of praise for it :)

Thanks OP

Ooh, so tempted. I *love* Civ Rev on the DS and think I'm ready to step up with a little more depth. That said, Civ Rev as already been a huge time suck so maybe I *dont* need another. At least I have til Friday to mull it over.

Wow, this game is fantastic. I've probably sank about 2-3 hours already in the game. Went by really fast too lol. If anyone has doubts about grabbing the pack, just buy it already!

I agree! I love CivIV, but SMAC had me glued to me seat even more than Civ. In particular, I loved the diplomacy and SMAC's handling of vassals. They implemented that to a degree in Beyond the Sword, but it still wasn't as much fun as SMAC for some reason. I really loved the feeling of crushing a culture under my boot and then having them beg for mercy. The first time that happened was one of my favorite gaming moments.

I'm interested in what's going to happen with SMAC. Meier says that they can't do anything with it unless they wrestle it out of EA's hands (good luck with that), but I wonder if they might be trying to make a spiritual successor. They've definitely got a couple of games in the oven, including CivV for next year, so here's to hoping.

In some ways I prefer CivRev to the PC version. I love the pace, and the crush-and-destroy feel to it, even though the AI is geared for warfare more than any other winning condition, and the diplomacy is completely worthless in single player games. I still pull the game out regularly... I'm hoping to see a sequel to it someday.

Yeah you can redownload. However, alll you need to do is copy the steam folder to the new pc and reinstall steam. That is what I did and got about 20 games installed in 10 minutes. The only tricky part was that some games save stuff in my documents so I had to copy that to. Regardless it is a lot easier than reinstall the game from a disk.

Steam has gotten digital distribution down pat. No one that I've seen does it better.
Games are tied to your account instead of your HDD. You can download them to as many (as far as I know) PCs as you want, so long as your have your account info.

This is a great deal on a great game! I already own the disc version of Civ4, but none of the expansions, so I'll definitely be picking this up!

Do it!

I love Civ Rev too, but it can't touch the full Civilization experience. I've played all the Civs, been doing so since I was a kid, so I can say pretty safely that Civ IV is one of the best PC games of all time. That said, if you think Civ Rev is a timesuck, you ain't seen nothing yet.

If you think Civ Rev was a huge time suck, you might want to wait for a loooong vacation to start up Civ IV.

Wow, this is an awesome price for the whole set. I loved playing CivRev on the 360, and I'd like to step up to the true game. I can really get hooked on strategy games, though, so I can imagine how much this could possibly suck me in.
