48.96 after tax and shipping though. For that, I might as well drop the extra few dollars for a new copy from Amazon.

Thanks anyway OP.

Not a great deal if you ask me. You can buy the game brand new at Half.com for $40 plus $3.49 shipping. Not interested in this game now that i've read the reviews but for someone looking for a good deal check Half.com :) http://product.half.ebay.com/Demons-Souls_W0QQtgZinfoQQprZ70790899

I first thought it was the asian version on half.com, but its listed under the US UPC so I am assuming it is the US version.

Good catch, never dawned on me as I figured it had to be the US version since it was shipping from the Mid West.

Yeah if it isn't well. I'll think about keeping it. I've seen a lot of ebay sellers selling the asian version. I think it came out earlier than the US version did so people imported it since it had english.

Even so it'll work, right? I'm i'll still be able to play it in English? As long as that's the case it's no real biggie for me. How will I be able to tell if my copy is the Asian version?

edit: I checked my ebay order and the UPC code is: 730865001323, I checked it against the one Amazon is selling and they are the same. But like I said as long as there is English text and audio it's not a big concern for me.

Game has been out about 9 months (i believe) in asia. there are 4 versions of the game out including the US version. All have english voice overs and text (except one), a couple have english and release country voice over work (china, Korean), the only one you possibly wouldnt want is the one that came out in Japan, it has english voice but all menus and text is Japanese. The US version has all new Voice work (and sounds pretty good actually).

If you do some goggle work , the game has basicly got excellent review scores, In asia it has alsmot alwasy been a 9/10, 90%, etc. Most western reviews have it in rouhgly the same area, a very few have it at 75% as a low, but thats it, the worst reviews put it at 75%.

One thing pretty much universal in reviews is this game is no push over. I am not a good gamepad player (cant do FPS for crap) so was a bit worried. But I have no problem controling the game, the controls while a bit different then I would have expected have alwasy left me feeling 100% in control. All the "this game is Brutal" talk is somewhat HYPE. I am not a console player (except RPG's) and I beat the first two Bosses without a death (the 3rd boss took 3 tries). This game never kills you cheaply like 90% of other games. EVERY ENEMY has a pattern, or style of attack that can be countered. The Bosses are actaully pretty easy to beat if you are not a "guns blazing" person and actually like to THINK about how to beat them.

As for the BRUTAL part, when you die you have to start at begining of level, this seems much worse then it is. ALL levels have shortcuts, once you get to certian points in the level there are doors that can be opend from other side, levers that can be used to open passages, elevators that can be turned on, etc... Basicly you fight to a point, open a shortcut, then if you die it takes maybe 2-3 minutes to get back to the last spot you where. If thats BRUTAL, i guess some people should play some old school games again, this is cake compared to some of those.

We all dont like the same style games so I wont say this if for everybody, but I want to shout out how good this game is, If i had went by reviews talk of how hard it was I would have been scared off, but again I must say, this is the most fun I have had in years with a game.

Last thing, I am only maybe 1/5th into game, so my opinion my change (on the Brutal part), but even if it does, I havent played any game i have bought in the last few years this much, so it was worth it.

Thanks for the info clok. 8-)

I think I maybe getting the US version after checking the UPC code but as long as the audio and text are in English i'm cool with that. Also i've read that there is no pausing in-game and that it's constantly saving in-game. So choices take on greater consequences if you screw up or choose wrong.

I mostly agree with clok regarding the game's quality and difficulty.

"This game is brutal" is an accurate description, but it's not quite as bad as some people might be fearing. The key is that the game has a very DIFFERENT kind of difficulty from what we're used to seeing these days.

In Demon's Souls, any given normal enemy is quite capable of ripping you to shreds if you make a significant mistake while fighting them and don't recover quickly. Bosses often take 90% of your health in a single hit, but if you're quick about it you can get out of the way and heal up -- healing items aren't too hard to come by and can be farmed easily.

So what's "brutal" about it in my opinion comes down to three points:
1) Botching up a fight with a normal enemy can kill you quite quickly.
2) First-encounters or runs through levels usually means at least a few deaths because you'll run into enemies whose attacks you're not familiar with or traps and ambushes and the like
3) If you die, you lose all the souls (acts as currency and spendable experience points) you were carrying. Unless you make it back to where you died, they're gone forever (i.e. if you die again before you get to your bloodstain).

And here's the ways to make the above 3 points less painful:
1) Treat every enemy as a "mini-boss." Approach carefully and tactically, and know how you're going to react to them when they start attacking. This not only helps to keep you from dying, but it makes for a very unique and satisfying combat style
2) Again, move carefully, and when encountering a new enemy, have an escape route so you can retreat and try something different if your strategy doesn't work.
3) Unless you've got loads of souls, don't be overly concerned with dying or losing souls. If you DO have lots of souls, stick to areas you know you can get to relatively easily if you happen to die.

Personally, I love the game. It's been awhile since I've played a game that I am both impressed with (graphically, design wise, etc) AND can play for hours and hours.

Back on topic: I'd just buy the game new, frankly. I'm not wanting to open the whole new vs used debate here, but for just saving $10 or so to get it used, even a CAG probably ought to get a new copy, support the developer/publisher, and be sure you're going to get a shrink-wrapped case and disc.

Regarding versions: All versions except Japanese will be English menus, text, voice. If the price is roughly the same I might go for the N.A. version because of a few slightly better translations, and to give Atlus a metaphorical "high-five" for bringing this game over here.

Nice impressions as well Esoteria. I'm hoping I will get the US version as well to show support to Atlus but it won't be a big deal if it's not.

Don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but there's a good chance you might not get these. There is a rep from Hastings on one of the other threads, and she mentioned that they source a lot of these games from their actual B&M stores; it seems they don't have any central warehouse. I just can't imagine that there are that many Hasting's B&M stores out there that have used copies of this already. Just don't want people to get too disappointed when the cancellation e-mails start rolling out.

One note on pause or saving. Once you celar an area/spot/room you can pretty much stand there forever, so far the enemies seem to pretty much stay where they are unless they see you. So once and area is cleared its safe (so far). I dont read faqs or cheats on games, but i do read alot of forums. I cant vouch for this, but yes the game saves where you are, but I have heard (and to be honest this sounds like a bad idea, corrupt save files?) people will fight and if they lose or are getting close to loseing, shut the PS3 off. I would imagine you would have to redo anything you had done, but suposedly no soul loss. Again I would think this would really open up the chance of a corrupt save on the Hard drive.

If you are on the fence (and money isnt tight) I would recomend the game. I know I had a hard time getting it here as all the game shops mentioned getting 10-20 copies and they where all gone by 5PM the day they came in. Luckly Best Buy is alwasy a day behind (here) and they had a copy at noon the next day... Ya a single copy left, they had sold all but that too by noon.

Yea, I was tempted to get this, but after shipping and tax, almost $50 bucks. That's NOT a great deal for a freaking used game.

On the flip side, forget about buying this on Ebay. I can't beleive the bid prices. All auctions end up well over $50 bucks, new or used.

I agree w/ Esoteria's opinion about the game. I have to admit though I invented new curse words while playing.

No tax in NY, guess that will vary by state.
You only pay sales tax if the business is registered in your state. Sales tax doesn't apply cross states, it's a great technique to use when buying high ticket items. It's also a huge headache if the item is defective.

Yeah.. I honestly doubt they have them in stock.. they advertise their used prices the day the game comes out.. before they can be used. Good luck if you ordered it.. Hastings has cancelled 2 orders on me already, so I have no faith in them.
