What are lightning deals?
Lightning deals are limited quantity, time released deals from Amazon generally found on the Goldbox offers page (http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox). At some point in the morning, the clues are listed along with the time(s) the item(s) will be available. Recently, Amazon has started a Video Games Lightning Deals section on the Video Games Deal of the Day page (http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_6716412_1&docId=1000208101) (generally have to scroll down to see it).


How often and when do the deals change?
Daily, and usually right around 12am Pacific time (1am Mountain, 2am Central, 3am Eastern).


Do these deals sell out?
It depends - the Lightning Deals will often sell out and fairly quickly at that (generally in less than an hour) if it's a recent / popular game or a really decent price. So if the clue sounds at all like something you're interested in, stay close to that keyboard. The Deals of the Day have been known to sell out from time to time, but it's more rare and more often than not if it's sold out early in the day it will become available again later in the day, at least briefly.

Any other little useful tidbits I should know about?
Yes!
1. Becoming a member of the ECA (http://www.theeca.com) can grant 10% off your video game and/or accessory orders at amazon.com (when the codes are up at least). Check other threads on ECA and the discount for more info.
2. amazon.com gives FSSS (free super saver shipping) on all orders over $25. The handy thing is that in the event a Lightning Deal drops a $25+ game's price below $25, the FSSS still kicks in based off of the original price. Hooray!
3. While I would be more than happy to maintain this thread daily, it'll probably never be able to stay out of the graveyard due to the time when the deals are updated; someone will be always able to post new threads before I can update. If anyone is interested in reusing this faq, knock yourself out.

unless they are really obvious clues on the lightning deals
as for the deal of the day you never know what they are pulling out that day so there is no way to do that

FYI, yesterday I left FNR4 in my cart all day and it stayed at lightning deal price even after it was "sold out", however, when I checked at about 10:15 PM (Eastern), the lightning deal price was finally gone. So you don't have all day to partake, but you can put it in your cart and leave it there and still get the lightning deal price quite a bit after the deal has "sold out".

Yes. Once you click "Add to Cart" from the Lightning Deal page you have essentially claimed the promotional discount. You will have until midnight PST to redeem it (so plenty of time to make up your mind).

A second thing to remind you all of, P4 has been out for almost a year now and the cheapest it goes for almost anywhere is 29.99. Launch MSRP was 39.99 and amazon sold it for 36.99. For almost 4 months after that I recall it not being a penny cheaper than 39.99, so anyone jumping on Persona PSP for ~30 is about as cheap as you can expect it to be. If I am forecasting this incorrectly, I am sorry! ;P

I'm waiting to buy this one when I actually know I can run it on my PSP. Ironic that by Sony blocking CFW'd PSPs they sacrificing $70 in game sales. Two games this week I can't hop on because of that now, Disgaea 2 and Persona PSP. [Yes for all of you with CFW you are forced to upgrade to Sony's newest firmware with Persona PSP or to another CFW which doesn't support homebrew.]

^^ A person has to add it when the deal goes up in order to 'keep' it there for that price later. Simply search for the game and adding it to your cart WILL NOT affect your price when the deal goes live.

Think of it as a coupon, like black fridays where you get one to claim that deal since you were there at 3am....

The deal will run until it's out. So it may run for 2 minutes or less, or if it's a really bad deal, it could last a while.

Life isn't fair, bottom line. All that calling and complaining is going to do is make you sound foolish. West Coast people, that go to work between 8-9 PT, will miss out on this deal too. So will countless other people. Thats just the way it is.

Hopefully either Persona or Ghostbusters hits the $20 mark, then I'm in for one. As long as it's not the Slimer Edition, no need for the extras.

I will say that within hours of placing the above order, I got shipping notification. The last 2 Amazon game orders took 4-5 days to enter shipping (all were FSSS).

Persona sold out

I've got it in my cart, but I'm still unsure.

For that matter, I'm unsure about trying Disgea 2. It's one of the games I'm considering as my "third game (along with Zelda and Ratchet & Clank), but I'm not sure as I HATE 95% of tactical RPGs, though love the few I love... Probably way too hard for me.
(Also considering Halo 3 (terrible single player?) and 50 cent)

I would have gone for Persona if it hadn't required the new firmware. I'm sticking with custom firmware forever, the psp is a lot more useful when it's hacked.

Yeah I agree. If it would have been the normal edition it would have been $15 or 20 probably and also qualify for buy 2 get 1 free. Instead what we get are some extra bits of plastic junk for $30 more and no buy 2 get 1 free option.

Say what you want about the deal, but the Slimer statue is certainly not junk. Only cost me $5 but I would easily pay $30 for it. Obviously you have to be interested in it, but it is certainly not the typical crap that comes with CEs/LEs

i dont know about it being worth 30 bucks, but I agree its not typical CE junk, its pretty large and well built, doesnt feel or look cheap. Also, it come w/ a certificate that says its limited to 6,000, so sooner or later they will be gone at these discounted prices.

Not to disagree with you about the slimer statue being good stuff, but they're STILL selling the Master Chief "limited edition" helmets for dirt cheap prices. I think it's a hit or miss with really nice ce/le stuff. Lots of people po'ed the MC helmet edition when Halo 3 came out because it was being advertised as "limited", and it was already selling for $50 within half a year! I know because I got in on that deal, although now I wish I waited sinec it's half that price now. :lol: I wonder what serial number they're up to on the ones that have been bought :-k On that note, as excited as I am about the nv goggles with MW2le, I'm going to wait and see if that sells for half price within a year. :razz:

i got in on persona. its a great price for that release. i regret missing out on prinny while it was new, i ended up barely being able to get a mint/complete copy off of ebay for 37$ now.

It was released like 3 weeks ago. I doubt they have already run out of the launch copies.

As for returning, make sure you pick the option where you get your own courier to ship it back. Otherwise, amazon will charge you their own shipping rate (like $5). You can ship it back using USPS for under $3.
