That is pretty sweet.
It will be quite a hassle for the winner to sell all those off as separate items.

good god. yes, i wish i had 4 or 5 thousand too. now i understand why i can't get an old system for cheap, because this guy's hording them all.
but damn could he be a lot richer if he sold all that individually.

It kind of seems like a shame to let go of all those systems for just 4,000. Thats a heck of a collection he has there.

"you should consider adding a new pin to every NES. This ensures your chances of selling the systems for $50-$80, with the $80 systems being sold during the Christmas holidays"
50 bucks for an NES? okay....
"$60-$80 NES systems, and $80-$125 Atari 2600's"
Is that the resale value of these things?

Ok, that is ridiculous. Who needs 290 systems? Besides people looking to sell and insane collectors. I would have much rather seen 1 of each system as opposed to 38 geneses (or whatever the plural is). If there was one of each system, I might be tempted to buy it. And it would cost much less than 4000.

that is incredible, for the price it is at currently seems like a good deal

Yeah, but what did you do after you checked out the link?
As for the auction, it seems a little excessive to own like ten copies of every console. I wouldn't mind one of each, though.

If your going to start your own game store, your all set.
you know, other than the lease, employees and all sorts of overhead.

I would assume that's who's selling it, either a secondhand store, pawn shop, or fleamarket type seller. that type of person of course would be the most interested buyer as well.
What were there, like 9 Virtual Boys? Hmm, wonder who bought the other 7? ; )

No Vectrex? Not interested.
Look at how dingy some of those SNES boxes look. Yikes. Don't smoke, kids.

Exactly. That's what I thought when I saw it. Why couldn't I have won the lottery last night so I could retire and start a game store just for fun. Instant inventory.

I would like to hear the story behind this, I wonder what he was going to do with all these systems and how/where he got them..
I don't think he was/is a collector, especially considering there is so many of each unit, and he is missing out on some of the coolest/rarest consoles.

So...nobody has been bored enough to add up the cost of all that using avg. prices?

One question? How does one go about shipping such a thing? That alone is going to cost as much as the auction...

Shipping was about 17 69 pound boxes....UPS .com is slow right now, but that's gotta add at least 500 bucks to the price. I think he's located in SC, might be better to just take a weekend drive down there if you're anywhere in the Southeast.
Hmm, actually, I just guesstimated some sizes on Fedex.com, and from SC to me here in NC it looks like around 20 bucks a box. [Which is indeed just under 500 bucks.] From my zip to the classic 90210 is 40 bucks a box, so shipping is definitely going to add a bit.

Didn't Matsushita just end up putting that in a few DVD players, and then like "3" games were made for it? I would call that a console as soon as I would call the CD-i a console...

it has to be a failed business, nobody, not even the most hard core collecters would have that many duplicate systems

Read the whole auction. He has a picture of everything boxed up and mentions the average weight of each. There's also a full list of what it will look like shipped. I guess they'll negotiate shipping after the fact, but it lets you get a good idea depending on how you want it shipped.
