I am thinking of buying one of them but i dont know which one to get. I am used to the plastation paddles. I know Xbox has Halo which is a plus for that. But I also want to use it as a computor in my bedroom. So which ever one is better at online. Just give me your reasons why you like one of them.

NO MORE OF THESE TOPICS GODDAMNIT
Also, plastation (sic) paddles? PADDLES? Neither can be used as a "computer". The online thing is a whole 'nother debate which has been covered MULTIPLE times.

I see your new. Its best not to post topics like these on CAGs. We already had someone else post about controllers. If you want to game on a reliable piece of hardware get a PS3. If you want a computer, buy a computer. Also what the fuck is a PlayStation paddle?

i'm trying to decide between some random things (ipod/zune/ps3).

To answer your questions...
If you want a computer, buy a computer. Neither PS3 or Xbox 360 will give you the true functionality of a computer.
For gaming consoles, I prefer my Xbox 360 over my PS3. I have got used to using the Xbox360 controller.
For movies, I prefer my PS3 over my Xbox 360.
For online gaming/marketplaces... like others say, there are plenty of topics on this. My personal opinion is I find Xbox Live to be far superior to PSN.

I have a friend that calls controllers 'Paddles', lol. Neither systems controller is perfect, but both work well enough.
PS3 and 360 are both good systems, but neither is a computer.
PS3 does have a web browser, the 360 does not.
Online is generally better on the 360, but it costs money. PS3 online is free.

Keep in mind Sony is fixing PS3 net code.
If you really like Halo that much then why not buy a 360? There's a new Halo ODST that just came out.
On the other hand PS3 at this point has a solid collection of game as well as upcoming exclusives through out the rest of this year and next year. I would say Killzone 2 is on the same level(if not better) with Halo in term of exclusive FPS.
It's all come down to matter of opinion. Just consider their functionality and price when you want to make your decision. Also the functionality you will be using it as. And I can say that neither of the 2 will satisfy as a "PC". I did a little contrast to help you.
PS3 Slim:
$299.99
DVD and Blu-ray Compatible.
1 Wireless Controller with rechargeable battery
Built in Wireless network adapter
120 Gb internal HDD (Replaceable with any 2.5" SATA HDD)
Free Online
Xbox 360 Elite:
$299.99
DVD
1 Wireless Controller (Does not include rechargeable battery)
No built in wireless adapter
120 Gb HDD (Not replaceable with 3rd party HDD)
$49.99 a year for Online subscription.
That's a general contrast between the two systems. Good luck making your purchase.

Yeah so many of these type of threads on every forum...
Also I guess it's kinda bias because it's the in Sony Gaming > PS3 section but whatever.
I'm not gonna give an opinion but just state facts.
PS3: Pretty much a nice all rounder, and very reliable, very rarely do you encounter a broken one. Not the best for online gaming FPS etc etc (can lose connection, have lag or have a slow connection)
Xbox360: Not as reliable as the PS3, finding many more broken (Red Rings of Death crap...) ones. Very good for online gaming (Xbox Live servers, all connect to same place so no lag and no slow connections (that right? Not sure but I think it is since I don't actually have an Xbox)).

Wrong! Xbox Live actually Players Hosted. All xbox 360 online game sessions are host by one of the players in the session. The only thing is that Xbox live match up people better so you rarely see anyone with low connection together with peopel with good connection. PS3 is still bad at doing this I guess but overall they use the same system of match making online. And actually some of PS3 games use Dedicated Servers (The only game I actually know that uses this is COD4, there are others though). Sony has actually announced that they're working on fixing the net code for PS3 which hopefully will have better matchmaking from now. And to be quite honest I have never have problem playing online with my PS3. I don't see much different compare to when I play the same game on my 360.

PS3 without question but I would suggest not to use it as a PC. Try as they might I'll never accept these functions in a console. PC's are meant for music and photos and other basic tasks. Consoles are meant for games and games alone, the other features shouldn't be there.

Yes, most of PS3 multiplayer games are client-server sided hence why you see games like Resistance 2 with 40 players, MAG with 256 players and there no crazy lags. XBL runs on peer to peer network that's why they will never have a game with more than 32 players limit because that could cause excessive lags. If you google PS3 and dedicated server as keywords you will find these information.

Do a google search for infinity ward ps3 servers and all kinds of articles come up about IW's servers not able to handle all the games right after COD4 came out.
This is one of the reasons I like XBL more than PSN. Eventually the servers for a game will be taken down and with it goes the multiplayer aspect of that game forever. XBL doesn't have this problem (with a few exceptions) since the games are hosted by the users as oppossed to a standalone server.

Are you sure about that... I have run into excessive lag when trying Killzone 2 online and while playing 4 player co-op on LittleBigPlanet. It was way worse than the lag I experience with a bad host in Gears of War. As for Mag, how do you know there isn't crazy lag for it? The game doesn't release until Jan.
Not all Xbox games use P2P. Call of Duty and EA games (i.e. Madden, Battlefield BC, etc)are run on dedicated servers, just to name a few.

Buy the original Xbox and mod it.
You will be way happier once you are running XBMC/linux and it will only cost you a 1/6th of the price. Not to mention, you will be able to pick up about 10 great games form the previous gen for the price of a single new game.

It must be a problem on your end. I have Killzone 2 not a single lag every time I play it. In LBP there some lag when you first join the game but if you wait a few minute for your game to sync up with the host there will be no lag at all for the rest of the session (that's what it is for me at least). I have been in MAG beta since 2nd stage. I have played all variety of their games modes (From 64 players to 256 players). None of my games were every lag. There might me some minor lags here and there just line any games would have. I only have Qwest DSL (5mb dl and .7mb upload). There basically no difference between my PSN online play and Xbox online play (even for same games).
And COD4 on 360 does not have dedicated servers. Some xbox 360 games do have dedicated servers but it is very limited. Usually games with 32 players have this but not every game. I don't know if Madden has dedicated servers. Often you will find sport games to have dedicated servers.
Like I said before at this point XBL does have better net code which will match up people that are closer to each other and average out the connection to ensure stable connection between each players. PS3 might be missing this since there weren't many PS3 players to start with. But as Sony announced they are working on fixing (I think they're actually done) the net code on PS3 online and will be implement in the next firmware update (or so I heard?). I do sound a little bias toward PS3 even though I do own both systems. I found that after my XBL subscription ran out my xbox 360 sit there utterly useless. I started buying my games on PS3 since they offer free online play. As a "Cheap" ass gamer I think the PS3 is more valuable to the cost.

As for my connection, I am on fiber optic. Currently speed test showing 4.89 mb DL on my wireless laptop. It is average for my connection according to the speed test. Don't know why this was brought up since my PS3 is closer to my router than my Xbox yet I have only lagged on two of the games I have played on Live (this year) which are Gears of War 2 and Halo ODST (i.e. two games with a big userbase); the rest of the games I have played were lag free.
As for MAG, betas will only show so much since the amount of people on the server are limited. Once people purchase it and start going online in the masses, there could be lag like I experience in the other two games or issues connecting to a server.
Yes, I agree with you in the sense that it is free, which is nice. I also hate paying to play online but I find the quality of my online experience ten fold to what it is on PS3 so to me I don't mind paying it. As for Sony fixing PSN, I will believe it when I see it. I am still waiting on American made songs for Singstar that the EU and Austrailia have that Sony isn't trying to put up on/in the store; let alone the songs that have already made it on seperate discs. And before everyone continues to mention that it is a RIAA type issue.... Harmonix (Rock Band), Activision (Guitar Hero), and iNis Corp (Lips) haven't had any problems...but that is a different topic.
Another factor about Xbox 360 as it relates to non-exclusives...
- Most non-exclusives this era have been made for the Xbox in mind. You will notice that PS3 titles will not be as sharp as their Xbox 360 counterparts i.e. Ghostbusters.
- For some non-exclusives, PS3 owners had to wait 3-4 months for titles while Xbox owners played those games i.e. titles such as Tales of Vesperia, Eternal Sonota, and Ninja Gaiden 2 just to name a few.
- Microsoft has slowly taken major Sony exclusives from last Gen - Grand Theft Auto, Tekken, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, etc.
The top factor is one of the main reasons besides Live that I play my non-exclusives on my Xbox 360.

Actually you forgot to consider the fact that PS3 came out a good whole year after the Xbox 360. Developers actually coded on Xbox 360 first because it is easier because they gotten around it longer. But as you can see developers are starting to make games on PS3 first then port it to xbox 360 now (most vivid example is NFS:shift, and the upcoming FF13). As far as I concern 4.1mb dl speed is really average speed for internet. You did not mention your upload rate so I cant judge how good your internet would be for online gaming. But like I said the problem could be on your end because I have never encounter lags on either games you mentioned on PS3. Sure MAG is currently in beta but as far as I know they're not planning to just use the same number of servers they have right now for the final products ( I think any developers in their sane mind wouldn't do that). I don't see your point here.
I don't really care about exclusive titles being taken over. While they might be taking "some" there still plently others. Xbox 360 is getting the chucked down version of FF13, FF wasn't meant to be PS exclusive anywya, there was FF11 on xbox 360 together with wide variety of FF on Nintendo Consoles, a side story of MGS which Kojima himself doesn't want to recognize as one of his product. Resident Evil was NEVER a PS excluvie, so was GTA, DMC. In my term of exclusive mean 1st party games. I don't really consider 3rd party exclusives as a real exclusive because they can port it to other console for business benefit anytime they want.
As much as you want to defend the Xbox 360. I still see more values from the PS3 consider the cost/functionalibility factors.

You want a pc and gaming console in one??
Build a gaming PC!!
You can build a decent gaming pc for about 400-500 bucks. That's not much more than the price of a console plus accessories/live subscriptions. Even last generations graphics cards produce better graphics than ps3 and 360.
Use HDMI out to connect to your tv. voila! Movies, games and computer in one.

Sony has had games, Resistance 1, 2, where there have been rooms where there are 32 player rooms, then there's MAG with 250, then there's Warhawk with 32 players in one room, then there's Killzone 2 with 32 player rooms (that might be wrong) vs the 360 that has GOW with 8 player rooms, vs Halo 3, ODST with 8 (or 16) player rooms. In terms of big battles online, the PSN has totally drawfed XBL.. everytime I bring this issue up there's no explanation, or no type of credit given to sony. The online play of these games are excellent. You're experience is not like the avg. user, everyone lags.. sometimes, you can't find a game where people don't lag sometimes... you may not have experience much lag, but for the avg. XBL user, they've probably lagged a lot more than you.
I have a spoiler...
If you're going to say that you don't like big battles and that it makes the game too chaotic as a response... please don't reply.

You can use your keyboard and mouse on UT3, w/ mods, and you can download user created maps, mods, its sweet. I know you don't care about how many people are in the game, but don't you think that the fact that these PS3 games can have 32 players in one room says something about the quality of its online network. That was my point.. the quality of the online service. ITs easy to talk about YOUR experience, but lets talk about exactly what PSN users are getting with that free service[ in their games].

Again... last time I played online on my PS3 was to play LittleBigPlanet with 3 other players to finish off the stickers and it lagged so bad I was falling off things because the frames came in so late. I wasn't the only one in those games lagging either. Granted, most of the times the lag didn't get to that extent but there was still considerable lag. You can try sugarcoat it but I have seen MY experience and know others have seen it too. I actually use both networks (which it doesn't appear you do) as well as both systems so I can compare them.
Like I mentioned before... On Xbox Live, I have only lagged in two of the 100 games I have played, which are Gears of War and Halo ODST. So far on PS3 network, I have lagged in two of the two games I have played online... soon I will take Uncharted 2 online and we will see how that fares... hopefully it will be better.
I understand that this is the PS3 area and realize there are a lot of fanboys out there.

The consoles did not just come out. They have been around for 3 years +. If you are still having problems "deciding" which to get, then just give up now and take up another hobby: like knitting.
The console wars are dead - it is now up to the consumer to decide which games are most intriguing.

I'm not surgar coating anything, but I don't think that your right when you try to make it seem that PSN is worthless because you experienced some lag. You've only played 2 games on PSN, and you're getting ready to play a third... compared to playing 100 games on XBL. You cant tell me, that your experience in COD4, Burnout, Super Street Figher (Rmx), Blazblue, is soooo much better than the PS3 online experience? When we had CAG nights for Killzone 2... it ran beautifully, don't know if you were there, but people played (w/ mics) and had a good time; when people play UT3, we played and had a good time. There are people playing games on PSN and having a good time. You make it seem like the service is total garbage. Have you ever played Warhawk, Resistance 2, or Killzone 2 with 32 players... its smooth as butter.. no lag.
I'm not trying to be a fanboy, but I'm trying to get you to realize that the service is better than what you've experienced, and this is from someone whose played everything via PSN. If it was garbage and I couldn't enjoy the games, then I'd pay for the XBL... the service is great.
only problems with PSN, is that the downloads are too slow.

So I was playing my Xbox again after awhile (Got a 1 month XBL from trading here). Decided I want to play some COD4 but guess what? 3 out of 5 games I was in got "Network Connection Problem" and restarted the game. The other 2 games had average lags. I'm not trying to bash XBL but honestly I see no different between PSN and XBL. To a point I think PSN is more stable because I don't get kick off the game for "network connection problem". If you're saying PS3 is a bad console because of its online play then you obviously your router/modem preventing it from full access. It's all about NAT setting for XBL and PSN. If you have the right setting you wont' find any difference between the 2 network.

I never said that the PS3 was a bad console. If it was, I wouldn't be playing any games on it. It has some good exclusives. I was just explaining my beef with PSN. As for my router, it pretty much is set up for defaults outside of a WEP key and a change to the Admin's password. But either way, my router allows Xbox to play pretty much lag free outside of the two games I listed where PSN has lagged for both games I have tried. Should my router cause both to be crappy if my router was preventing full access?

you mentioned in another thread that you were having stability issues and that you were using a Linksys. I had a linksys WRT110, and it was horrible w/ the PS3. Switched to a Netgear and so far its been great for both the PS3 and 360.

I thought everyone already knew that the PS3 is a better deal in terms of hardware (other than their shitty controller) but doesn't come close to the 360 in terms of games and ease of use.

That's a very funny statement. You must have not been buying PS3 games for the last 2 years then. I guess all those Multiplatform games should only be count as Xbox 360 games, and those exclusives that rocked the rating boards in the last 2 years are simply not worth mentioning. Controller preferences are subjective. Everyone has difference preferences. I actually like the PS3 controller for anygame beside FPS since the triggers on Xbox 360 controller does help a bit, but if you willing to ditch out about $5 you can get an add-on attachment to make your R2 and L2 feel like triggers.
I don't know if you can even compare the "ease" of use of both system since that word is also very subjective itself. Honestly what is so complicated about the PS3? It's all GUI based and very to understand to set up. Unless ofcourse you're talking about streaming file formats that the PS3 (Or any multimedia device) doesn't recognize from your PC. PS3 and Xbox 360 have almost similar features. Put a game disc in and it will play the game, put a movie disc in and it will play the movie, you can use Media Server on both, you can play music files off your MP3 players/USB. There are PSN store on PS3, while MarketPlace on Xbox 360. Except PS3 has extra features such as web browser, Life with Playstation (Basically a weather/news feed), blu ray online, etc...
Honestly I do sound like such a PS3 fan boy. But I guess from my progress as childhood of NES->SNES->Wii, PS1-PS2-PS3, and only Xbox 360, I do lean more toward Sony side given the Playstation systems themselves always prove their worthy existance without saying. But I do actually realize there are differences in all gaming systems good or bad. Which is the reason why I have all 3 systems of this generation which ensure I will never miss out on anything. I got members of CAG to thanks for being able to afford having all 3 systems (Love all the flip-flop I had in 2008, it was my golden year in making profits from flipping). Without CAG I wouldn't have ever thought of buying all 3 systems :bouncy:
FYI: Please excuse my grammars and spellings. I'm a FOB
PS3 - better value for your money, more reliable, free online, better controller, more features, better video player & better UI for videos.
360 - questionably better online, more exclusive content.
Both are about equal for exclusive games currently.
Haven't used my 360 since buying a PS3.
::FACEPALM::
NO MORE OF THESE TOPICS GODDAMNIT
Also, plastation (sic) paddles? PADDLES? Neither can be used as a "computer". The online thing is a whole 'nother debate which has been covered MULTIPLE times.
I thought you could use PS3 as a computer if you install Linux.

Seriously, J7 and Thomas are drinking TMK's Kool-Aid. I like my PS3 and all (Uncharted 2 was AMAZING and the online is great) but at the end of the day my XBox 360 (in general) see's more of my time and all of the multiplatform games due to 99% of people I know have a 360 and XBL.

Whatever, the only reason out of the many I posted that you could even question/dispute is that PS3 has a better controller. How can you question that PS3 is not a better value, more reliable, free online, more features, better video player and UI for them? Or that both are about equal for exclusive games. Instead of just posting putdowns, why not post something that would disprove what I posted.
Just because you play mp games exclusively on 360 because your friends own that doesn't mean anything about the quality of each system. Just like me not playing my 360 for over a year doesn't mean jackshit about the quality either, it's just giving information about our personal usage.

I'm drinking the kool-aid, but the reason why you play on the 360 is because 99% of the people you know have a 360... I play PS3 cause its my choice, and its not contingent on the choices that others have made. If that statement doesn't make you the 360 Fanboy poster child I don't know what will.

First off, forget using either as a computer. If you want to use it to stream audio and video, both do it.
Second off, it doesn't matter. Both systems are great and they each have their share of exclusive games. Want Halo? Get a 360. Want Demon's Souls? Buy a PS3 RIGHT NOW.
Just count up the games that are exclusive to each system that you want to play. Decision made.
If you care about blu-ray, then add a point to the PS3 tally.
I've had a 360 since it was released, and picked up a PS3 once the Slim hit. My 360 sees a lot less playing time right now, but that's only because Demon's Souls is on the PS3...once I'm done with that, it'll be back to the 360. Until I pick up Uncharted 2, in which case I'll be back to the PS3.
Figure out what you want to play the most. That's it.
They're both good. Not a bad decision to be made here.

The reason I am on a Linksys now is cause the old Netgear one I had (only a year old) just gave out one day; no power surge, no bad weather... I swore off Netgear at that point.

I second the modded (original) xbox. Check craigslist, you'd probably be able to find at least an unmodded one for about 20 to 30 bucks. I don't think either the xbox 360 or ps3 have been able to match the amount of fun I've been able to have with my xbox. Considering the fact that you can probably have everything done and have a system with 4 controllers for more than likely under 100 bucks, I'd consider going that route.

I think some Linksys router default block PSN ports. I recommend doing a portforward for PSN, also do it on your modem too if possible. Because there literally no different between online play on my PS3 and Xbox 360 at all. Sometime my PS3 actually play better because I'm getting more frequent Network connection error in COD4 on my 360 now (where it just goes back into lobby and start up the match again with the same group of people). And I think my xbox is at it end or something sometime it would drop the framerate like crazy (Drop to like 15-20 fps) after that last update.

Seriously??? Dude, the answer is yes! Get both, both have strong content, if you still can't decide what to buy based on what you see in games that send me your money. :-) I mean the consoles are 3+ years old and people should be educated on this already to know they are both outstanding consoles and both have weaknesses and strengths, which is why I have both.

I got my PS3, cause it used the same style controller as the PS2, plus it had BC, so for me I was satisfied with the PS2 so I wanted the PS3. Also, I didn't care about online play at the time, because I thought my internet speed was too slow to really enjoy it; But since it was Free, I played Resistance and saw that the online play was good and could be enjoyed. With the PS2 I only went online for Madden Roster updates. I ended up getting a 360 later on because I liked Castle Crashers, and Gears of War. Plus the 360 was onsale for 199.99 [cheaper than a Wii]. I've always had two consoles, Atari and NES; SNES and Genesis, PS1 and N64, PS2 and Dreamcast, now PS3 and 360. I'd argue that the PS3 is better for several reasons, but I can't really say that you shouldn't buy a 360. Even with the hardware issues, at least MS is aware of the problem and will replace the system for you. In the end it all comes down to what games [exclusive] you want to play right now, and which controller you like. When you have two consoles, one wil become the primary and the other will be the back up. I'd play all my action adventure games on the SNES, but all sports titles were played on the Genesis [cause I didn't like the fact that developers were forcing the Mode 7 twist when you got an interception on Madden, cause it was freeze the player, (but not the computer) and would make it impossible to return the interception, cause it froze the action. ]

i would go for the ps3 for these reasons: It has built in wifi so you wouldn't need to connect it directly to an Ethernet cable if you have a wireless router. The PSN (playstation Network) is free to all playstation owners, and is great for online play. also the psn has the playstation store which is great for downloading free demos, videos, trailers, wallpapers and themes and psn games which only cost you little. Go and search more on the internet, many websites should have discounts in xmas time.

I've been an Xbox 360 gamer for about 3 years and never really thought about picking up a PS3. Then i got one the day the slim came out for $199(using the Sony Visa promo) and I don't regret it one bit. As much as I love my Xbox 360, I've played the PS3 more ever since I picked it up. Actually, the only thing I've used my Xbox 360 for recently is streaming Netflix.
I like the Xbox 360 controller better but I never was a PS2 gamer. The PS3 controller is slowly growing on me though.
The PS3 does have the built in wireless and free PSN, which are both great. When I drag the Xbox 360 to other rooms in the house or when I travel I have to bring the wireless adapter...can be a little annoying.
I guess it also depends on which exclusives you like better for each system. I'm a big Gears fan, but haven't touched it since I discovered Uncharted and Uncharted 2. And I'm definitely hyped up about God of War Collection and God of War III.
I never would have thought my Xbox 360 would see so little playtime :P Hope that was helpful!

Uncharted 2 totally rocks. It's like Gears combined with TR to make one of the post epic game of 3rd person shooter ever. MGS4 and Uncharted series make the PS3 worth getting (2 of the best games I have played this generation) not to mention other great tittles I haven't played yet or haven't been release. Xbox 360 is getting really dull now IMO. There are no good (according to my opinion) exclusive coming out at all in the next year or 2. And everytime my XBL subscription expires I have the guilt feeling for renewing it since I can do pretty much the same thing on PS3 for free >.> One of the reason I'm slowly moving all my MP games to PS3 (mostly just SF4 and COD lol). My xbox 360 is pretty much my Rhythm Music Game machine now since I have good load of DLC for Rockband 2 on it lol.

Netflix is coming to PSN for free! ayayaya!
PS3 has so many more features, runs faster, plays blu-rays, has free online, and is a much better value.
Xbox 360 has more games and makes you pay to play online with friends

Exactly! I'm in the process of moving all my MP games to the PS3 as well. I was originally going to get MW2 for Xbox 360, then I looked at my Xbox 360 that hasn't fired up a game since late August and thought "Why the hell would I do that...?"
And the fact that Netflix support is coming to the PS3 is just gravy.
My yearly subscription to XBL is usually a no brainer, but when it's due for renewal in March 2010, I actually need to seriously consider if I want/need to renew it.
Like pixi and the rest of the crew here have said...the winner is clear :applause:
I definitely won't be renewing XBL. There's no way I'm paying even $30. The past 2 years I got it for $10 each year by finding the orig XB1 Live subscriptions.

We'll see by next Sept. (when my XBL sub. expires) what Sony has done with the PS3 and XMB. Really, all I want is cross-game chat and I'm pretty much set. A revamp of the XMB would be nice, perhaps a bit more info when you go to your friends list would be nice, like that mock-up someone did on the PS forums.

I originally regarded the Playstation 3 as an expensive redundancy, convinced that the cross-platform titles were better on the Xbox 360 and that most of the PS3 exclusives were duds (Lair, Haze, etc.). Funny how a price drop will soften one's attitude. I bought a fixer-upper for $90, fixed it for another $25, and now I've come to peace with the PS3. Uncharted has really impressed me, with visuals that would be extremely difficult for the Xbox 360 to top, and I just received a copy of Valkyria Chronicles in the mail. I haven't played it yet, but I've heard great things about the gameplay and I'm already in love with the graphics, hazy border aside.
I agree with the other poster that there's room in anyone's collection for both systems. The two machines remind me a lot of the Genesis and Super NES back in the old days... the Xbox 360 is a bit low-rent just like the Genesis was, but it's less expensive, has plenty of great games in its library, and above all else is CHEAP to own if you buy used and don't go overboard with the exorbitantly priced peripherals. The Playstation 3 is technically more advanced and has outstanding exclusives, but its manufacturer is incredibly arrogant and (as far as I know) it still has some catching up to do in the online department. The more I think about it, the more I think the two systems should switch colors to keep them in line with their early 1990s counterparts...

I actually think they already fit their colors. I personally find Xbox more like the SNES and PS3 more like the Genesis. I agree that there is room for both systems in everyones collection. I just feel you should purchase the Xbox 360 first then buying a PS3.
Back to my Xbox-first DLC... love that I can export my Lego Rock Band songs today vs having to wait until Nov 12 with PS3 owners... and when I am down I think I will start my Xbox exclusive GTA4: The Ballad of Gay Tony.
That's because MS spends their money trying to get timed exclusivity on anything they can instead of funding game studios that make kickass games, that is not good for the industry. They'd rather close up studios and put that money towards timed exclusivity on DLC. I have no problem waiting for a piece of DLC if I get better exclusives & support some of the best developers.
And the reason why you saw 360 getting some Japanese games exclusive for a number of months is because they gave money to publishers to develop the games on 360, which backfired on them because the publishers are just using that money to fund titles which end up on PS3 with more content. http://www.pushsquare.com/6566/are-microsoft-inadvertently-funding-the-development-of-playstation-3-titles/

Depends.
If you don't have a good gaming PC and like to play online, then you get the 360.
If your PC is good for games, and online is not your first priority, then you get PS3. Most 360 games come to the PC eventually, but PS3 games do not.
Also, if you buy lots of used games, then it has to be the PS3. The discs are scratch resistant, and xBox discs are too damn delicate.

@J7 - then when those timed exclusive DLC/game contracts ends, sometimes the PS3 gets extra permanant exclusive DLC ontop of the other stuff.
Also, IMO the line-up of unreleased announced games is better for the PS3

If you are an addict to Winning Eleven, you should go for PS3, it also can be a Blu-ray player, which cost a few hundred dollars, ps3 has got a right track on this fabulous function. And I agree with above, I've searched for a few websites which are having discounts to ps3 console, but the most attractive one is the lucky draw by dsstyles, they are launching it right now, seems so attractive, go dsstyles (dot) com and see the details.

What studios are you referring to? Bungie leaving was so they could become their own company. You do realize that Microsoft owns the rights to the Halo franchise under the studio of 343 Industries i.e. Bungie can't develop a Halo title without the support of Microsoft. Internally MS has Lionhead (Fable), Turn 10 (Forza), and Rare. Externally, MS has deals with developers Bungie (Halo), Epic Games (Gears of War), and Bioware (Mass Effect). This makes up the good chunk of true 1st party titles (since all rights to the game franchises owned by MS). In order to do this, they would need to fund the studios for those rights i.e. it isn't just money given for DLC support. Granted, there is money thrown to studios making Xbox Live Arcade games i.e. Twisted Pixel and DLC i.e. GTA. Do remember not all DLC is timed-exclusive. GTA's first 2 episodes will not make it on PS3; granted future releases are rumored to hit PS3 as well.
When you compare first party titles (retail only since PSN games are lacking), you have about the same amount of big name titles coming out...
Xbox - - Alan Wake, Halo Reach, Mass Effect 2, Fable III, Crackdown 2 and recently released Forza 3 and Lips Number One Hits (I will play two of these)
PS3 - - God of War III, GT5, Heavy Rain, Last Guardian, MAG and recently released Uncharted 2 and Ratchet and Clank (I will play three of these)
If you read the article you posted and others like it, there are two things developers say... 1) xbox is way easier to develop on and 2) sony is difficult in that if the developer doesn't add extra content than Sony wont let it be ported (when the 1 year exclusivity ends). They also mention that the only reason they want to port it is due to the Japanese demand, not NA/EU, since majority of users are on Playstation i.e. don't trust Microsoft, a non-asian corporation. Personally, I would rather play the game first than to have it spoiled after a year from its release and get an extra playable character or mission for my troubles. The exclusives is what brought me from PS2 to Xbox last generation with Ninja Gaiden and Splinter Cell.
Again I leave it like this...

Who said anything about Bungie... though now that you mention it they lost them as an internal developer because Bungie doesn't want to make just Halo.
I'm talking about them closing down Fasa, Carbonated Games, Hired Gun, Ensemble Studios, Indie Built, ACES Game Studio, Digital Anvil.
It is also rumored that the GTA episodes will come to PS3. Sure of course some exclusivity for DLC is not timed, but that doesn't change that they're spending money on exclusives rights to DLC instead of funding studios. It's the same deal as funding timed DLC exclusivity when it comes down to it.
PSN games are lacking? That is false. PSN has many great games, and some of the most innovative out there.
Mass Effect 2 is coming to PC & it is published by EA as well, Crackdown 2’s developer is a 3rd party. So I guess we can now fix the list for Sony using the same criteria you’ve used for MS. I don't know why you're including Lips (which is much worse than the Singstar series). You're forgetting many PS3 exclusives not out yet. Let’s fix the PS3 list with only the unreleased games…
PS3 - God of War III, GT5, Heavy Rain, Last Guardian, MAG, FF XII Versus, Agent, White Knight Chronicles, White Knight Chronicles 2, The Agency, DC Universe Online, FF XIV Online, Free Realms, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Eyepet, Eight Days, The Getaway, Mod Nation Racers, Last Rebellion, MLB 10 The Show, Quantom Theory, Yakuza 3, Under Siege, along with the unofficially but very heavily rumored Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, & Twisted Metal. I’m leaving out games I don’t know about, so there is more…
Now if you’d like you can post the list for 360 unreleased exclusives.
Mass Effect’s IP is owned by EA now.
360 is easier to develop on, yes, but PS3 is more powerful overall, which is what makes it harder to develop for - based on its architecture. Sony is smart to want extra content for ported titles, it would be stupid to release the same game with no enhancements months to a year later.
Nowhere in the article do they say “They also mention that the only reason they want to port it is due to the Japanese demand, not NA/EU, since majority of users are on Playstation i.e. don't trust Microsoft, a non-asian corporation”
Did you just make that up? I find it hard to believe they would only do it because of Japan, when they can get more sales on PS3 than 360 in America for some of the games and more sales on PS3 in America than Japan for some of the games. And it doesn’t matter anyways. No matter the region Japanese developers know it is worth porting 360 games to PS3 even if it was only for 1 region.
Splinter Cell was not an XB1 exclusive, it was only a timed exclusive as it came to every platform.
Why buy 360 first? For exclusive and timed exclusive DLC and yearly fees?
Now let’s look at Sony’s 1st Party game studios…
Japan Studio, Team ICO, Polyphony Digital, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, San Diego Studio, Sony Bend, Sony Online Entertainment, Icognito Entertainment, Zipper Interactive, London Studio, Studio Cambridge, Studio Liverpool, Evolution Studios, Bigbig Studios, Guerilla Games.
Now onto Sony’s 2nd party studios:
Clap Hanz, Game Republic, Q-Games, Media Vision, Pyramid, From Software, Insomniac Games, Sucker Punch, ThatGameCompany, Ready at Dawn Studios, High Impact Games, Eat Sleep Play, Slant Six Games, LightBox Interactive, Titan Studios, United Front Games, Quantic Dream, Relentless Software, Media Molecule, Ninja Theory, EPOS Game Studios.
Compare to MS 1st party studios:
343 Industries, BigPark, Lionhead Studios, Rare, Turn 10, Xbox Live Productions, Wingnut Interactive.
MS 3rd party partners:
Artoon, Bungie, Epic Games, feelplus inc, Gastronaut, Mistwalker, NinjaBee, Ruffian Games, Sarbakan, Twisted Pixel.
16 1st party studios for Sony.
21 2nd party studios for Sony.
7 1st party studios for MS.
10 3rd party partners for MS & Sarbakan is yet to release a game for MS.
7 1st party studios MS has shut down.

All the studios you listed never turn a good game for Xbox or Xbox 360. The majority of these were PC Developers... don't know how that affects Xbox support. Being that we are in a recession, it makes sense to stop supporting studios that don't turn a profit.
Bioware is now owned by EA so of course I knew that. By Mass Effect 2 appearing on the PC... remember it doesn't hurt Microsoft too much since it runs on a Windows product. Just like they were fine with Halo being ported to PC.
The full article that your article references has his blog comments. Quote from it...

As for PSN... outside of Fat Princess and maybe Flower, all the games don't look that good. Luckily, PS3 sounds like it will get Braid so at least it might be getting better.
Singstar vs Lips... don't get me wrong I like Singstar better but I also hate it. Singstar EU has really good songs yet Singstar US gets shafted. This happens every week. At least with Lips I get tunes I have heard of... Hopefully SCEA will get off its pine and push Singstar but I don't see that happening since they allowed it to fail pretty good on PS2. Then they claim it to "licensing" which we all know is crap since Harmonix/Activision/iNiS have been able to churn out DLC.
Splinter Cell I was aware it was a timed exclusive. Again, I rather play a game earlier than later so it doesn't get spoiled.
My reasons for xbox 360 first are more online users, a better online experience i.e. party chat, etc, and I found mult-platform games to play/run better on Xbox.
37 studios for Sony 1st/2nd party support yet they could only produce 4 profitable titles last year (Killzone 2, Infamous, MLB, and Uncharted 2)... maybe a fifth in Ratchet and Clank but we will see when the new sales numbers come out. Not a good batting average... looks like a waste of development money.
In your list of exclusives, you name a lot of true 3rd party games (which I left off my list for Xbox) and also some games that will be no good (which I also left off my list for Xbox). You also listed rumored titles i.e. who knows if they are even in development.

Second, you are incorrect. These developers were not strictly PC. Only 2 of them only did PC games, the rest did PC, XB, & 360. Also incorrect that these developers never made good Xbox/360 games.
---------------------------------------------------------------
ACES made PC games.
Ensemble made PC & 360, made the highly rated Halo Wars.
Carbonated Games made PC, XB, & 360, including highly rated Hexic HD, Uno, Hexic 2, & others like Fable II Pub Games & Aegis Wing.
Digital Anvil made PC & XB before closing, including Brute Force, which did fairly well critically/commercially.
Hired Gun did PC.
Fasa did PC, XB, & 360, including the highly rated Crimson Skies.
Indie Built did PC, XB, & went on to do 360 games for another publisher.
The majority of these studios were closed down before the recession. Also, if that was a reason then why do they go and throw so much money around for exclusivity...
----------------------------------------------------------
If you knew Bioware was owned by EA why did you act like it's a 1st party exclusive? The point was not whether ME 2 being released on PC being "hurtful to 360", the point was its not a 360 exclusive.
Went back and read the article you posted. He says they ported the games because they would not sell enough on 360 in Japan. He doesn't say that is the only reason. They know if they port it they can make more sales in Japan and in other territories, otherwise they would just release those games in Japan only.

If you think Flower, Fat Princess, and Braid is all PSN has to offer, this merely shows how little you know of what's available on PSN.
Still doesn't change the fact that Singstar is better and we were talking about quality of exclusive titles. How do you know its not licensing? I'm not very familar with Singstar situation, but the games don't sell very well here compared to other music titles so it may not be worth licensing. I thought Singstar did pretty well on PS2 with loads of titles & there were tons of songs for PS3 Singstar on the Singstore.
I don't see how a game gets spoiled by playing later in time. You said "The exclusives is what brought me from PS2 to Xbox last generation with Ninja Gaiden and Splinter Cell."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
37 studios that are not just making PS3 games, they make PS3, PSP, & PC games, and they can't each make a game every year. All you have to do is look at the track record of their studios to know they put out some of the best games each generation... You're underestimating and given your track record so far probably wrong on the # of profitable titles their studios put out each year.
Off the top of my head this year you're forgetting Patapon 2, LocoRoco 2, Jak & Daxter PSP, God of War Collection, Resistance Retribution, Singstar Queen, Free Realms, Wipeout Fury, Motorstorm Arctic Edge, 2 Pixeljunk games, Demon's Souls, Flower, Fat Princess, Blue Toad, LBP PSP.

Mass Effect 2 is true 3rd party. I stated I took the guidelines you did and applied them to PS3 exclusives... Go ahead and name one of the games that is not going to be good. I mentioned ahead of time if it was a rumored game, and do you really think Resistance 3, Killzone 3, & Uncharted 3 are not going to be made?
I feel that I've countered everything you've posted in my previous post http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6471908&postcount=62 and this post, above and beyond, with research and factual evidence... I've provided proof for all my statements and disproved many of yours.

There are some great PSN games out there that you forgot to mention: Critter Crunch, Wipeout HD, Pixel Junk (several titles), Zen Pinball (I love this game), Shatter, and tons of others that I don't own yet.
For me, having PSN for free is a huge deal. I don't play online very much, but every time that I have played online has been really good. Sony does need to fix it so you can message your friends from any game, at any time; there are rumors that the next update will have that functionality.
In my opinion, as far as value goes, the PS3 wins hands down. I got mine in May of this year, and I've been playing it exclusively. There really isn't any add-on that you must buy(except maybe a $2 HDMI cable), you can open the box, connect to your wireless network, and play.
MS has some good first party exclusives, but that's a matter of taste. Sony has some really great first party exclusives and there are tons more on the way.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

LOL, I couldnt read anymore after this. You really think this XBL turd makes the PSN a better service? You need to step back and focus a little better. Your arguments were soild until you unwrapped this gem.

I thought about making a new thread for this topic, but I'll just put it here.... okay. Why does the PS3 forum get all of these PS3 vs. 360 threads? I'd love to start a Forza 3 vs GT5 thread in the 360 forum.. but if I do.. the mods would probably ban me or something. Over and over in the PS3 thread we keep having to defend the PS3, show that its good, and for what... just to have to do all this shit over again in a month or two... One good thing that came out of this thread is J7's post, damn, sir.. you laid that shit out nicely, really shows what's been going with the PS3 games... good job.

Lets start with the studios that made Xbox titles.
Ensamble - I will give you that Halo Wars sold well. The majority of the team members were kept and moved to different projects so the talent still rest in the Microsoft camp.
Carbonated - the majority of their games were free in terms of marketing; all their team members were kept and moved to different projects; one of those projects being for the Xbox Live Arcade group i.e. keeps their hands into the games they were making.
Digital Anvil - Brute Force... Brute Force could be written up as a huge bust... lots of marketing went into promote it (almost as much as a Halo title)... lots of stock came in to store not to be sold... reviews were mediocre i.e. 8.1 IGN.com
Fasa - Crimson Skies... haven't we learned yet that console flying games haven't work... Crimson Skies followed the same course that Ace Combat has flown for years... low sales... only the hardcore non-PC gamer buys them; reviews only get you so far... its all about the profit
Indie Built - Amped... failed horribly... Top Spin... low sales... They were sold off prior to Xbox 360 release (in Oct 2004) to Take Two.
A game gets spoiled from a friend/review/etc or in my case (at the time) working at a gaming store while people talk about favorite parts of a game. Luckily our site has spoiler tags to try and halt it but not everyone uses them.
What is the purpose of listing out the others...
PSP like other Sony projects received no love for so long that people, like myself, abandon it. Yes, it seems to be getting better with a Metal Gear and LittleBigPlanet on the horizon. As for their sales numbers, hardly anything has sold better than 1 million copies (really only GTA titles)... that is worldwide (based on vgchartz). Let's go down your roster of "profitable"
Patapon 2 - japan sales only 60,000 since May's release; US must be so low since they are not posted
LocoRoco 2 - worldwide sales only 90,000 since Feb's release
Jak & Daxter Lost Frontier - it should do well based on the originals success so I will give you that one
God of War Collection - go ahead and add that one as well, even though it is practically a direct port with a fresh coat of paint
Resistance Retribution - 390,000 worldwide since Mar's release; not well enough
Singstar Queen - 10,000 worldwide since Mar's UK release; not well enough
Free Realms - must be a PC title since I have never heard of it
Wipeout Fury - DLC...
Motorstorm Arctic Edge - numbers not released yet... my guess they wont be good
Pixeljunk games - never sell well
Demon's Souls - only for the hardcore; numbers will be low
LBP PSP - has a possibility of doing well, so you can add it on
Flower, Fat Princess - all PSN titles (I never added titles from Xbox Live, which we all know Shadow Complex outsold probably every game on your list combined that is currently out); all you can do to benchmark them is by the leaderboards, which isn't accurate due to gamesharing.
Blue Toad - must be a PC title since I have never heard of it
As for upcoming games, we will see if any of the other titles you mentioned going forward add up to anything (sales) related. My guess based on your list of current "gems" would be that they don't.
Lips sales vs Singstar sales
Lips (nov 08) - 49,000 vs Singstar (dec 07) - 87,000 - not bad considering original Lips was discontinued and Singstar had a year jump on it.
Rumor is still a rumor whether something will most likely be made or not. We all know there will eventually be a Final Fantasy XX but we don't discuss it since it isn't truly on the horizon.
Originally, I expressed my opinion to the OP. Based on sales numbers, it would seem others feel the same way as I do.
Best selling PS3 title: GTA IV at 5.9 million worldwide
Best selling Xbox 360 title: Halo 3 at 10.3 million worldwide
that is almost 2 times as many
Titles that sold across platforms
CoD:MW: PS3 (4.7 million) vs Xbox360 (7.87 million)
To this date, NPD charts show better game sales for Xbox...
September Charts
8 games on it for Xbox 360
5 games on it for PS3
0 games on it for PSP
Halo ODST sold 1.52 million for the month vs the top selling PS3 game that month, Madden 10 (246,000)
When you have titles that selll 1.52 million the first week (each month an Xbox 360 title hits about the 1 million mark) and your third party/xbox live content outsells your competitor, do you reallly need to sink more money in development of games that don't end up turning a profit?
I will leave it at this... jh6269 says it best that "it is a matter of taste."
P.S. I love your post rant about Half-Life 2... +1 Xbox360

You forgot to mention that there was no exclusive release on PS3 in September. Let wait and see the October report and we will see with Demon's souls and Uncharted being released in the same month. You also forgot to mentioned that the PS3 outsold the xbox 360 and wii in september.
NDS (http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/NDS) - 524,200
PS3 (http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/PS3) - 491,800
Wii (http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Wii) - 462,800
Xbox 360 (http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Xbox_360) - 352,600
PSP (http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/PSP) - 190,400
PS2 (http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/PS2) - 146,000
That indicates people are starting to pick up the PS3 and hence we will see increases in PS3 software sale in the upcoming months. Like I said before for the next 2 years Xbox line up doesn't look too promising. All they have is DLC contents instead of real titles. DLC contents usually short live spurs of fun to me since they most often will be short. But that is a matter of opinions. For me it seen like M$ isn't paying much attention to Xbox 360 as they're trying to develop the next generation of Xbox and Natal project?

With more systems being sold by 100,000, you would think that 3rd party titles would have sold more for PS3 than Xbox but it didn't.
As for Demon Souls and Uncharted 2, we will see when the new numbers are released. I think Uncharted 2 will show great sales but as for Demon Souls I don't think it sold as well as you think it did.
For your last comment, I agree partially with it. I think Microsoft's current focus is in adding more upgrades to Xbox Live (i.e. Facebook, Halo Waypoint, Sky Network, etc) and on the Natal (which has picked up more steam by being on mainstream tv like Jimmy Kimmel show). At the same time, I don't think their exclusive title support is minimal. There are a bunch of quality titles scheduled for release in 1st and 2nd quarter of next year that aren't DLC.

Honestly if you just barely bought a total new system to you would you buy 3rd party games instead of the exclusives that you were hoping to play once you get the system instead? At least for me if I was to get a brand new system I probably jump on the first party exclusive games before touching the 3rd party stuffs o.O
The only release xbox has that I could think off is Alan Wake and ME2 and Halo reach? ME2 and Halo Reach do not interested me in anyway at all. Compare to the huge PS3 line up (GoW3, GT5(?), Heavy Rain, Last Guardian(?), FF13 series.etc. I guess you're right about demon's souls sale. But my main point was that there was no PS3 exclusive during September what so ever.

Honestly, I think that we'd have much better games if the 360 wasn't around. Devs make games on the 360 because its easy, and thus PS3 owners don't get to see their system used to it fullest capability (graphically) because they're just porting games to PS3 to make that extra buck. Because the PS3 is selling better, devs will hopefully start to makes games for PS3 first then port to the 360 for a better product. But even in that situation you can't optimize for the PS3 (in any multiplatform game) because you have to account for the 360. Burnout Paradise was one of the first games to be developed on PS3 then ported to the 360, and the game turned out great for both consoles... but I still wonder if the game could have looked better, or had better features if the devs would have focused on optimizing the game for PS3 and worrying about the 360 version later.

Eh, all I can say is that my 360 gets more playtime than my PS3 (followed with the Wii in dead last), but they're both great systems.
