Target online says that Fallout 3 GOTY for PS3 and 360 are only $40 in store.

***READ THIS BEFORE RUSHING TO YOUR LOCAL TARGET TO BUY THE GAME!***

It seems that there has been a mix up between the original Fallout 3 and Fallout 3 GOTY DPCI's on the Target website. The B&M Targets do *NOT* have the GOTY edition in stock for $40. However, there have been lots of people (including myself) who have been able to price match at Best Buy for $40. Several people have also had success price matching at Walmart, but it seems to be hit or miss depending on which Walmart you go to.

Great find. Unfortunately, every store near me is out of stock. Hopefully Ill be able to pick this up on Wednesday when I hit the Game Crazys still in the area.

Is there any way to get a raincheck or place the order so that once it comes back in stock at my local store I will be able to pick it up?

Sweet deal. I'll probably pick this up later since I sold my non-GOTY Fallout.

What I don't get is why the downloadable episodes are so f'ing expensive. I probably would have bought those had they been cheaper at the time they were released.

I would keep the Collector's Ed stuff. Only because I want them, but If you have no interest in the stuff sell the Collector's Ed and buy the GOTY. It has all of the DLC while the Collectors Ed has none.

This is available near all the Targets near me. I'll be grabbing this Thursday.

I can probably get $15 for the Regular edition of the game and keep the rest of the stuff and buy this version. After all the Collector's Edition only cost me $20 at Best Buy when it was on clearance.

I can confirm this as well. The local Target B&M stores don't even carry the GOTY edition yet. I checked 2 stores and they both had the regular Fallout 3 with the "Game of the Year" emblem on them and NOTthe GOTY release which includes all the DLC.

This must be like the TRU error that people were jumping on last week.

I was just at a Target, and saw the GOTY in the display at regular retail price of $60. The regular edition is $40 at the store.

This ad must be an error.

And good luck to those going after a BB PM.

Not to muddy the waters any further, but this same deal popped up online early last week and I ordered it from target online....I got it in the mail on saturday and it was GOTY edition with the 2nd DLC disk. So if it is a mistake on the site, it has been up for quite a while without them fixing it.

If your target has the newer price checkers (with a number pad on the side), they can plug in this DCI number 207-22-0300 into to see what the price is supposed to be in their store and if they actually have any in stock.

hskr121
10-19-2009, 03:00 PM
This doesn't look like the TRU error because if you look up Fallout 3 on Target, you get both the regular and GOTY. On TRU it had just the regular with a picture of the GOTY. But I think the UPC or whatever was for the regular version as well. Anyway has anybody else picked this up for $39.99 or asked at the store about this?

most targets will not have the game of the year edition. they will have the regular edition. don't trust the online tracker because the item has the same DPCI: 207-22-0300. best thing to do is go to best buy and pricematch it.

You guys should check CAG more often. This deal is almost two weeks old. It started as preorder on Target.com for $20 off and since it did not say Online exclusive, it was understood even then that this will be a release price for at least a week in B&M stores. I got my GOTY on Saturday in the mail as many others did. I have not seen anyone reporting getting regular version and Ad was very clear - "Get the Game of The Year Edition of Fallout 3 for $20 off". Good luck now trying to find in-stock copy.
As a consolation, I think, this will be a regular deal for many retailers this holiday season. Given enormous popularity of the game, loads of extra content and, probably, some pricing flexibility by Bethesda (since it's essentially a double-dipping for them) - the chances are very high.

Man, I got the same deal you did, ordered on 10/10, but they wrote me to push the order back. Now estimated arrival is 11/14. I almost want to just try a PM at BB, but I somehow managed to stack a 10% credit card discount, Bing cashback, and Ebates, so it'll end up being around $37 after all's said and done. That versus almost $44 after tax even if BB matches.

I myself am not a huge fan of RPG's and I really enjoyed Fallout 3. I finished my first play through in about 15 hours (didn't do many side quests) and have started a second play through so I can do all the side quests. It truly is a great game.

I have called every target around my area, they keep telling me that the one on sale is the regular edition and that the DPCI (the number they use to identify each) is the same for both. so the good news is that if I find one it is in fact $40.00 but I will only know if I go and presently look because they can not tell me over the phone. :(

I can't stand RPG's but Lo<3 this game! It's got very intricately detailed story telling and a lot of replay value. I've gotten distracted by other games lately but still intend to finish the main questline and 100% all achievements. Definitely recommend it for FPS fans.

I just went to Best Buy, and they pricematched the game (PS3 version) by simply checking the price on the Target website quickly. They didn't call Target to verify availability or anything.

I'm shocked by how quick and easy the process was, getting it pricematched at Best Buy.

I would get Xbox 360 one, because once you install the DLC on your hard drive you don't actually need that disc. You can sell it or give it to your buddy.
Have the graphics/framerate problems on the PS3 at launch been fixed? I read that the PS3 had some problems that made it inferior to the 360 version at launch. I assume they have been fixed and they look pretty much the same now?

Maybe not dead, but at least YMMV. Especially doesn't seem like many people are having luck actually getting it at Target, seems like most people that have gotten, have done so from BB.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. Definitely a great deal if I can get in on it.

Because the 40 dollar game of the year edition is not at target. I took the Di number from the website to the store it said it was in stock but it was the original fallout 3. It seems to have or use the same number (According to the guy at Target.

Also I checked Cag earlier At work and glanced at the forum>checked targets website for avauilibility and then ran to target based on the post. LOL Just saying.

Thats true. I went to two Targets here in San Jose, CA (Capital Expy and the one on Story Rd.) and they both had the regular one for that price. There is even one of those sale tags also for it.

Just to note too, the standard copies at Target have a little "Game of the Year" award emblem on the cover. This was used by an associate to try and tell me they were the same and thats why the price was that way. So keep that in mind if you try and get Target to honor it.

The graphics on my PS3 version look amazing and the framerate is great.

The glitches seriously suck ass, though. I've had quite a few cases of freezing and it gets worse in the DLC quests.

Just went to Target and, like another person said, it's the regular edition that's $40.

They didn't have the GOTY edition.

They had the regular edition at $40 and it had a white sticker on the packaging that said "Game of the Year winner", so don't be mislead. The actual GOTY Edition is supposed to have a bar along the top that says Game of the Year Edition.

Ahhh, I have a sealed Collector's Ed but have not opened it because my 360 died and I have to wait for the Modern Warfare 2 bundle to come out to get one. Would it be wise to buy this version and sell the Collector's Edition?

If your thinking of selling on eBay, you will notice that the Bobble Head and Lunchbox both sell very well on there own, you could probably open the collectors edition, keep the game and make around $30 for the bobble head and the lunchbox, the whole collectors edition is going for about 35-40 right now.

Honestly the 2 best expansions are Broken Steel and Point Lookout, which you can get for $20 on disc. Unless you want to get every achievement I'd open the collectors edition, keep the game sell the collectibles and just get those 2 expansions (they are must have), the other 3 are more like 3 hour sidetracks. Just my opinion.

Warning to all CAGs. Most Target stores do not even carry the GOTY edition. Just call (and make sure you say GAME OF THE YEAR) and ask if they have it, but they won't. 99% chance you will have to PM it to Best Buy (if you aren't opposed to torture, I am sure you will get it done easily) or somewhere else.

Initially the electronics person was giving me the same hassle about “online” deals but I went higher up in the food chain and got the manager who PM'd it with no problem.

If you get some hassles about the PM try a manager before walking out of the store (any) empty handed.

By the way, Target employees are clueless. I actually had a person that works in the game section tell me that this edition did not exist and would not be out until November.

Sorry for this long post. I'm still undecided between the 360 and PS3 version. I read more reviews and discussions online and the findings were inconclusive. A lot says the original PS3 version was great after the patch but then the GOTY PS3 sucks because of new glitches introduced by the new contents.

I wonder if you guys who just got the GOTY PS3 version and are playing it now could shred some light whether if you encounter any issues on the PS3 version before this Saturday. The earliest I can get to a BB to pm would be this Saturday.

The reason I lean towards the PS3 version because I don't have pay extra in order to play online. However, the best experience out of the game is more important to me.

Well, a bonus also for the PS3 version is ALL the DLC is on the one disc, saving you 2gb + on your HDD, unlike the 360 version. I haven't heard much about glitches, but I haven't really looked into it.

Well, first off you can't play online in Fallout 3. Second, I hear that if you have a previous save (that was made on the vanilla version) that when you try to load the save after DL'ing the GOTY content your save won't load. Obviously you would have to restart the game if you couldn't get it to load, which from what I hear is pretty common.

Tried to pick up a copy at two different Targets in Southern California and while I am able to confirm the price drop to $40, neither location had the Game of the Year Edition for either the PS3 or Xbox 360. Both store electronics department personnel seemed confused between the difference of regular edition and game of the year. Normally I would go price match somewhere else, but I have been hanging on to a $40 Target Gift Card for some time which I had finally hoped to unload today. Oh well, I will check back with them to see if they get Game of the Year in stock before this deal expires.

As to which version is better- IGN rated the PS3 version a 9.4 and the Xbox 360 a 9.6. Personally, I like the idea of everything being on a single disc. I also subscribe to the general rule that PS3 = single player experience; Xbox 360 = multiplayer experience. But that is just me!

Yes and no. I was hesitant about this as well, since I had heard these reports too, but it turns out this issue only affects the Canadian versions. I PM'd the USA GOTY version last night, and put it in immediately after getting home just to make sure it would accept my original saves, and it loaded them up perfectly fine.

The back of the keepcase does say 6gb space required, but the install is only 1,145mb initially. As you progress through the areas, the game will start caching new areas to the HD, which increases the install size. But it's really not that much larger than the original Fallout 3's usage. The back of the box on the original Fallout 3 says 5gb, and by the time I had played through the entire game, it had only installed 4,316mb to the drive. Mind you, I had also deleted my original game's install data before putting in the GOTY disc's (just to be on the safe side.)

Well, price matched at the only BB in the area that had the GOTY edition for PS3. Took forever to do it. They took my print out to the back and talked with the manager about it. One guy came out and said they thought it was fishy, since in their opinion, Target never drops new games like that, so they were "confirming" whatever that meant, hich was weird since the girl had checked online right in front of me. After about 15 minutes she came out, apologized and gave me the price match. She said they had to confirm that Target had it in stock, but that's all she told me. Which is strange, because NO Targets near me have it, whihis why I went to BB.

She also checked out my penny guides with no problem, and this was customer service. LOL Nice lady. On the way out the employee stationed near the doors asked for my receipt, which startled me, as she saw me check out 15 feet away at Customer Service, then walk to the door. I showed her my reciept, she made some comment about the guides and took a couple minutes to look through my bag. She let me go and I was on my way.

One funny thing was the sign they had near their game guides. It said buy the game, get the guide for 30% off. I don't know how that would be handeled if you bought a penny guide WITH the game. 2/3 of a cent? Overall a great day, but an akward experience.

Tried to PM at Best Buy in Waterford, MI and was denied because the nearby Target didn't have it in stock. Which is true, but there is another Target another 15 miles or so away (well within the "local competitor" restriction) that reports it as "available" online. I highly doubt they *actually* have the GOTY edition in stock, but she wouldn't have known that. *Sigh* Oh well, hopefully something will pop up for this game between now and Thanksgiving - I'm working through my backlog briskly and would like this to be the next game I play thereafter.

How are you price matching it? are you using the current one up there or did you print out the old one?If you click the link "Add to cart to see low price in new window" and then copy the address given in the popup window, and then paste that into a new browser window, you can print that little box out. That's what I used to *try* to PM at BB.

Alternatively, you could use "Print Screen" and paste it into Microsoft Paint and print that out.

Just print these out to PM:

I price matched at Wal-mart. I had to convince the manager that it was the right thing to do and he hesitantly agreed to my proposal. What a nice guy. I knew he'd see things my way eventually. =)

How are you price matching it? are you using the current one up there or did you print out the old one?
I used the one currently linked in the OP. Looks the same to me as the old one.

Just worked for me at the Best Buy in Hummels Wharf, PA (aka Shamokin Dam)

ONLY THING: It was a kid that rang it up who looked high and just said eh, it should be ok. Called a manager over, who didn't even look at it, just proceeded to punch in his authorization code. So it worked for me but they were lackadaisical employees. If the employee/manager cared they might deny it.

PM'd at BB in Five Towns, Long Island. No problems. I think there may not be many left, as the employee had to go into the back and search for 5 minutes to find a copy.

Well this is fucking annoying. Both Best Buy's near me have been sold out for a couple days and the Wal-Mart near me said they'd price match over the phone, yet when I went to pick the game up the fat white trash lady (aren't they all) that was at the register told me no. And apparently she had the authority to do so.

Tried at Walmart first because I had to get some other stuff there already and no dice. Had 4 people going over my print out, including the asst manager and store manager (who gave the final no). They said it had to be in a flyer. So I said ok and left, no big deal.

Went to BB, was in and out with a price match within 5 minutes.

My opinion, don't even try Walmart and go right to Best Buy.

Edit: Walmart and BB located in Grandville, MI.

Tried to pricematch at a BB with a Target next door that had it in stock according to the online locator. I brought one of the three plastic cases to pick up the game at the front. They were perfectly willing to pricematch, but Best Buy is sold out in the whole district :bomb: Perfect plan involving RZ certs, gift cards and Game Crazy trade in of used copy foiled

EDIT: Just went to Bestbuy.com and found several stores with available so I ordered one with store pickup. If it is there, I will try to make a double switch and return/rebuy and pricematch. If not there, I will probably cancel the order. I'm too cheap to actually pay full price for a game.

So, as I said, couldn't price match at best buy or wal-mart. But just curious...If I were to get the 360 version priced matched at a store that didn't have the ps3 version in stock. Do you think they would let me exchange them when the ps3 version does come in? (unopened exchange of course). Any thoughts?

Do you think they would let me exchange them when the ps3 version does come in? (unopened exchange of course). Any thoughts?I'd love to do just this, as well, since the BB near me only has the 360 version and I'd much prefer the PS3 version. But, my inexperienced guess is that they'll just refund the $40 Xbox copy and then charge $60 for the PS3 copy. They technically aren't the same product, and Target could conceivably have a sale on the Xbox version and not the PS3 version. So, in theory, allowing this to happen wouldn't be any different then price-matching Fallout 3 for $40 and then exchanging it for Demon's Souls.

But then, you don't have anything to lose by trying. Worst case you buy the 360 copy, leave it unopened, try to exchange it and they say "no" and you get your $40 + tax back. No loss besides gas.

I think they would, as long as it wasn't opened and of the same value as the PS3 version, which it is. Just hold on to it I think, but I believe you only have a month to exchange it.

The original Fallout 3 was only short if you just ran through the main quest. If you actually explore and play through the side quests it is a massive game. I put in 60+ hours without completing it(I was maybe 2/3 done with the main quest) before my 360 broke.

From what I've heard, some of the DLC packs are shorter(Operation Anchorage) than others, but Broken Steel also raises the level cap from 20 to 30, and each DLC pack has new weapons, enemies and new areas to explore.

I picked up the PS3 GOTY edition, so I have to go through the whole game again, but it is awesome.

You'd be asking them to exchange a $60 game for a game that was PM'd at $40. You're not doing an even exchange, since it's not the same SKU #.

If the "sale" at Target.com is still going on, then yes, you could do it, though once Target fixes the link on their website, you're SOL.

You will not get more value out of a $60 game, let alone if you can get it for $40 GOTY, if you like a FPRPG. I put 100 hours into the main game, now I'm looking at 5-20 hours per expansion. Probably will put 140 hours into the game and expansions. And I'm not as hardcore as most of the people here. I get to play maybe 1 hr a day.

I can say that being at 115 hrs in it with Broken Steel and at the level cap of 30 for 10 hours, it's not as much fun without the level up. Level cap sucks.

YMMV no kidding!

I first went to my local NEX (Navy Exchange for those of you not in the military), they are suppose to price match no problem. I brought the print outs and a list of local stores.
The person told me they couldn't price match online deals, I pointed out that it said In Stores Only. So then they began calling local Targets to confirm the deal. The first Target said they didn't have it in stock or even in their computer system. the second said they didn't have it in stock and that only GameStop sold the GOTY Edition. The third said that it hadn't even come out yet, and the fourth said that they had had a few copies in on October 13th, but to get the deal you had to buy a bundle (a bundle of what they never said) to receive that price. I told the worker all of that was ridiculous.
She offered to split the difference and sell it to me for $49.99 (with no tax because the NEX doesn't add tax). I told her I'd go somewhere else.

So I ended up at Wal-Mart where they price matched and I was out the door.

What in the hell is going on at Target?

Just picked this up from the Potomac Yard Best Buy in NoVA. Everything went through fine, although they had to track down a copy because neither the PS3 or Xbox versions of this were out on the shelf, but they looked to have a stack of six or so copies. I took in the printout and there were no questions asked, they didn't even check stock at a nearby store, despite the fact that the nearest Target is maybe 300 feet away.

Thanks again to the OP and everyone who reported on the price matching.

No problems PMing 360 Version at Newington CT Best Buy. They didn't call a Target, didn't need to speak to the manager, just showed the printout to the person working CS (I know him from High School), said it was fine, cashier needed an override, but he came over and did one without any hassle. Spent about $6 after two gift cards.

One thing of intrest was that after getting the game from the locked case, the girl working the video game department took both the game and the slip to the register, and placed it near the cashier. Theft prevention maybe?

Is the second disc with the add ons a one time download to hdd, then you use the original disc from then on to play or do you have to use the second disc start up anytime you want to use the dlc?

If it is like the dlc disc from Forza 2 Platimun Hits, you do not need the DLC disc once you install it to the HDD.
