went to bb last night to get some cheap games. put rock band track pack and rapala fishing both 20 bucks on the counter and storm rise for 15 bucks . i figured the total would be a little over forty dollars. it came out to 37 dollars and change and im wondering what happened because the cheapest game was supposed to be free. then i come home and look at this 100 page thread go back and look at my reciept and sure enough the middle game was free not the cheapest

I received another email from BB saying Demon's Souls was on backorder. One of the options is calling their customer service and changing my order to a similar item. Has anyone tried to get them to switch a backordered game to a game that isn't out yet? I was specifically thinking Dragon Age: Origins. I was also thinking of trying for the Collector's Edition of it(it seems to be sold out for Pre-Orders on Amazon), but I don't want it to mess with my B2G1 sale.

I had 3 $60 games that I wanted and had no interest in getting a bunch of Rock Revolution copies, so I tried to do this the "legit" way. I went up there with Borderlands, NHL 10, and Lips: Number One Hits (I wanted the mic for RB, and figured I would sell the game). For some reason, it rang up like this

Borderlands- $59.99
NHL 10- $0.00
Lips- $5.99

I had purchased NHL 10 a little over a month ago from TRU, and so I returned the new unopened copy to them for $60 cash back. Basically, I ended up getting Borderlands, Lips, and a wireless mic for $5.99 completely unintentionally.

You still paid the $59.99.

Are you kidding? There is about a 0.000000001% chance BB is going to do anything legally.
There's nothing they can do legally but deny you from making the transaction. Once the transaction is processed and paid for they can't do anything to that transaction unless the customer requests it (such as a return, exchange, etc). The customer isn't liable for the store's shortsightedness.

On a gift receipt is it supposed to show the game on there, because mine has a barcode and then numbers and crap on there, but no where does it say Uncharted 2.

You're an idiot. Once a transaction is completed, there is NO recourse on the part of the store to come get more money. Why don't you put down the game controller and go get a college education? I tried to switch my back ordered copy of Demon's Souls to another title (ANY TITLE) and they wouldn't let me. I was able to change my order to in store pick up though. The problem with that is you have to be able to get to a store that has the game in stock. You can keep checking the website to see if your store has it. If they do you can call right away and change it to in store pick up.

When you do this though the order is supposed to be ready in about 45 minutes or so and you get an email confirmation to let you know it's ready to be picked up. So far it's been an hour for me and no email. I'm guessing they are either slow and lazy with it just like everything else, or they sold the 2 copies they had before they got word that they were supposed to hold one.

Here's a few I have done in the past for when a deal isn't as tasty at Point of sale ;

1) Search your pockets and just say i forgot my wallet.
2) Bring out a random credit card and say you forgot to activate it and can't complete the sale.
3) Say you didn't bring enough money and have to go to an ATM.
4) Ask them to politely hold the games for you while you go and get your wallet from the car.

Any of them should work...

Yes the second game rings up free...it need a manger's approval? the manager did come over, hit a key, and walked away...after the cashier hit a few more keys it came out to be about $6.00 total.

Hey guys, today i also bought 3 games the legit way. The order was;

Now, it seems like the glitch could work at this BB, should i bother giving it a shot later today(Saturday)? For anyone wondering, the store location is South-center, WA.

Also i would like to exchange Tekken for MW2 on Nov 10th, should i get a gift card now, by returning Tekken, or just go to BB on Nov 10th(Or any store really) with Tekken and do an exchange? (Or is there somewhere i can return it for cash? I paid via store credit at BB)

I would go today during the sale and get a gift card to exchange games. They would be less likely to deny the exchange during the sale. You can hold on to the gift card and get MW2 with it. If you wait for after the sale it's possible they pull the you need to return all 3 games. Now during the sale they are likely to let you change a game out with gift card.

Edit: or you could just go to customer service and ask the question about exchanging it at a later date for a new game and see if they would do it.

The cashier switched the order but it still worked:

Since it worked that way I went back for a friend and tried:

So the only difference is they didn't have any PS3 RR left so I used the 360 and it wouldn't work. I can't mix systems?

Yes it appears to work at the Bellingham location...at least up until Thursday when I went. First time I got Tekken 6 on Tuesday, which was in the middle free...however second time wasn't as good of an experience. I brought up Red Faction: Guerrilla, Need For Speed Shift, Midnight Club LA (in this order) up to the register and they were all in cases and whatnot. However, this apparently idiot new trainee or whatever (he was dressed in regular clothes with a BB employee standing next to him evaluating him or whatever) he started taking the games out of the case and whatnot, and was fumbling around...asking me for my ID when he scanned Red Faction first (I'm almost 21 BTW)...then he asked if I wanted a 1 year protection for the games or whatever (fuck no)...then he was like "so which game did I scan first" then the BB dude told him Red Faction and somehow the newbie then proceeded to scan Midnight Club and then NFS. The middle game, Midnight Club showed up as free on my receipt. I'm pretty sure if I didn't have a noob ringing up my games I would've gotten NFS free...but oh well. Not sure if I wanna return all 3 games and try again today. We'll see.

If you were around in like 2004 / 2005, you'd know what I'm talking about. I'm not sure when you joined because I'm on mobile right now but I'm assuming you weren't arround back then. Many games in my collection came from a helpful CAG picking it up for me at a clearance sale. You don't see that anymore, anywhere, as you said, whether the item is worth a penny or 40 bucks in this instance.

Had I known about this glitch sooner, I probably would've tried to help at least one person, but even that has backfired on me before. When you learn that something you sold at cost and shipping to someone was then sold by them for 4-6x what you sold it to them for, it makes you less likely to want to help out the next time.

Usually it's many of the lazy asses you see saying 'this isn't worth my time, my time is sooooo fuckin' valuable' who are the same people who will beg for an 'at cost' deal only to turn around and resell.

When a guide(take Tales Of Vesperia or Half Life: Raising The Bar as examples)is selling for $100 or so on Ebay, why should you let it go for $4-5 shipped? I've traded more sought after and valuable guides for actual PS3 games recently. They don't call them prime trade fodder for no reason.

Passed by a store which one cag mentioned this deal errr glitch worked at. Was fighting myself all day whether or not to do the deal. After pulling into the parking lot I ultimately felt I wasn't convinced whether it was morally right or wrong so I decided to pass. Got a bit of a backlog already so I don't have any regrets.

I bought FIFA 10, NBA 2k10, Madden 10.....my friend who wanted madden bailed on me and now im stuck with a game I dont want.

So I called customer service and I asked that as long as the game I want to swap out is within 30 days I should be fine right. She was quick to say that she couldnt do it.

This is not true. I'd like to give a HUGE thank you to Token2k6 for helping me out. I live 30 mins. away from the closest best buy, so when I posted in this thread, asking someone to help, he almost immediately offered. I asked him to get me Brutal Legend using the glitch, and he did try, but the glitch didn't work. I said it was alright, but he said that he would go to ANOTHER store to do it for me. It worked, and he sent me Brutal Legend and a Rock Revolution for $20 on thursday. I received the games in the mail YESTERDAY!!!! For those of you who don't want to figure it out, that's TWO DAY SHIPPING!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much token! I'm glad to see that there are people on this site who will help their fellow CAG's out.

I think chriscolbert was talking about the theory that Best Buy was going to request IPs of CAG members and prosecute them for using the glitch when he said no one has anything to worry about - if anyone really thinks that Best Buy would go to that amount of trouble, you, my friend, are a blooming idiot. Not only that, but since they have had the same glitch present for multiple sales, they have given what is known as "tacit" approval. In other words, they've been warned of the problem and have done nothing about it.

Now - the people that are/were talking about returning the "filler" games and keeping the free games are talking about committing fraud - and Best Buy would likely be looking at that very closely. I'll find something to do with my many copies of Rock Revolution... either trade them slowly in to somewhere and accumulate the credit or just give them to a toy drive or something...

A small question unrelated to the glitch. On friday the Best buy finally got some Demon's soul in so I went ahead and did a online purchase 2 Demon's soul and 1 Uncharted 2 with in store pick up. Whehn I went to pick up, the receipt show the 2 x demon soul are 29.99 and the Uncharted 2 is 59.99 and when I ask customer about the exchange, they said that I can give the game back any tiem to chance for another oen within 30days. Does that mean : I would need to return uncharted 2 back to best buy if I want to exchange it for like Assassin Creed II or would one of the Demon's Soul would work as well?

Right, that was me. I don't have any connection to Best Buy. In fact I really don't like the store and cringe every time I don't have a better option than to buy ANYTHING from them.

I don't care about the glitch - personally I took advantage of the DS B2G1 glitch. If I had money and games I wanted to buy right now, I'd definitely take advantage of this glitch as well.

What amazes me is Best Buy's stupidity in this matter, and thats why I made the thread on their forums just to see what the community moderators there would say. This is losing the company some degree of money and they don't even care. Surely that matters to shareholders to some degree. While its not like its going to make their bottom line suddenly go into the negatives or dip their stock price, corporate ignorance is only going to lead to more ignorance in other areas. What happens with the registers glitch the prices of HDTVs or something more pricey?

Best Buy managers already know about the glitch and I'm sure they're reported it to district and above. It's not like they're going to bother to fix this anyway with one day to go.

And are you implying Best Buy is not a publicly traded corporation with multiple stockholders? Wow very little knowledge about what the hell the NYSE is and what a publicly traded corporation is, or how corporations ideally operate (hint: Make more money to make the stock worth more, which in turn makes the stock holders have more assets. If Best Buy is losing money, then chances are that'll make their stock worth less, meaning stock holders have LESS assets.)

This wasn't the same as "calling" to ask if a deal was in effect. The "deal" is in effect at places and its public knowledge and internal knowledge at Best Buy. I didn't ask the community responder to alert anyone. I just asked why her company is stupid when its supposed to be making money for the company itself and the shareholders, not giving away $60 brand new games.

I fully agree and said from the outset that their not going to call up a programmer at 5 PM on a Friday night to have them fix the glitch affecting only certain, but a good number, of Best Buys around the country when there is only one more day on the deal. And if they do, it's not like my little post on their website is gonna do it - people threaten and bring up ridiculous claims on that website all the time - as has been stated multiple times in this thread, but managers know about this and have said they've told higher ups about the glitch.

I just wanted to know why corporate giant Best Buy doesn't care enough about people walking off with merchandise for practically free, and the closest I'd get would be at their community forums.

The video game industry rakes in $11.8 billion a year. You don't think that's a significant number of money and products being shifted around? There's a reason Best Buy bothers to cater to gamers by enticing them with pre-orders, coupons, and a gamer section on the Reward Zone website. Its because they spend a shit load of money on video games (and other products) at their store.

So I don't think its so illogical to think that $60 games walking out the door for what is essentially a loss of 83.3% to 66.6% in many cases, the aggregate effect of that could really add up. Both threads at CAG and SlickDeals alone have 1500-2000 replies each, with almost an equal number of views - and I have no idea if the forums even count unregistered lurkers on the views. The beans about this were spilled long ago, and as both threads have indicated, several people have milked this deal to the point that it almost seems illegal - who knows how many people have done it without speaking up? Hoarders and re-sellers don't waste their times with posting in threads like these. They scoop up the deals, ???, and profit.

And I don't believe these glitches are secret market tests for anything. If they were, managers wouldn't be dicks and override the glitch themselves, causing CAGs to walk out of the store and leave their two copies of Rock Revolution behind with that brand new Borderlands. This does matter to some degree, and I just wanted to know why Best Buy didn't care. That's all. There's nothing wrong with asking a publicly traded corporation why they don't care about making a profit.

They were already aware of the glitch before I posted on their forums. And who is to say the person they hire to deal with complaints on the forums has any more of a channel to tell someone to fix the glitch than a store or regional manager would? I mean Christ, if those guys can't get a fix, then Best Buy just isn't going to act. I just merely was looking to see if they'd give me an answer about why they didn't want to make money. Bottom line. I didn't get that, but I don't regret trying or "making Best Buy aware" as if they weren't aware before.

I read and reread what you posted, but that seems like they can terminate the "you bought 2500 dollars worth of stuff" membership benefits, not the RZ membership. Not that I have any doubt they have some loophole to do just that - but what you posted doesn't say that.

Uh. No he didn't. He left CAG anonymous and called it "numerous consumer sites". He didn't rat us out, he didn't name anything specific, he just asked about the glitch - which corporate knows about already, and probably knew about since at least two days before his post.

He also didn't register that day, and has several other posts on the BB forum - you're confusing him and the douche who signed up exclusively to snitch.

Honestly I really don't see them taking action on specific people unless the store individually singles someone out. Who really has an issue is CAG and any site that had a thread discussing and assisting people that were using the glitch. I am more worried that CAG will get some sort of action against it than I am about those that took advantage. I was really hoping the thread would get locked down or something, at the least to protect CAG but it did not.

Will Best Buy do anything? Who knows. We won't find out for weeks after this sale is up as it will take time for them to do anything, if the even try.

Also, keep in mind that this glitch was so wide spread and used by so many people.... do you really think taking action against your customers is a wise marketing decision? Seriously?

Yeah but on the real his whole arguement was bogus and I give the whole post a major side eye. What answer could a corp give him? If they already knew why post a see me read me thread? I think we all know the reason. Best buy isn't going to do anything so the alert was an epic fail from the start.

If it was that much of a detriment they would have pulled a kfc and posted a note at the entrance cancelling the sale.

Plus figure that for all we know, for every person that tried glitching on purpose there was another one that was done either accidentally or with the cashier initiating it. Probably not a 1:1 ratio but you know there were plenty on both sides of the equation

There's WAY too much gray area to make a distinction. For example, do you really think that they would target everyone that bought Rock Revolution but not those that bought $20 titles? They would be opening themselves up to a whole world of hurt far beyond what they lost during this sale.

my fault...i apologize to kondave for what i said..it was this guy named "linksys"....he ratted us out...he must go by another name on here...but he did register that day just to post our site on BB forums

Did you change your post from the huge size-7 font to something more reasonable so we wouldn't think you needed a huge font to get your point across?

Honestly, what is recycling this situation over and over again going to accomplish? Doesn't look like much to me.
