You will also be able to manage your instant queue from your PS3.
For the uninitiated, the cheapest Netflix plan is $8.99 a month.
So when I had my 360 and it got netflix not all movies could be streamed is that still so?
I ended up cancelling after the netflix trial since most the movies I did want to see where not available to stream anyway.

That issue was worked out a bit ago, I believe, but now that Netflix is showing up on PS3, I fully expect Sony to limit what titles can and cannot be streamed to the 360.

Thanks for the info. I logged in and reserved a spot when the Netflix streaming disc comes out later this year. Kinda funny that you'll still have to pop in a disc to run the application in the early stages.
Initially, watching movies instantly streamed from Netflix via the PS3 system will be enabled by a free, instant streaming Blu-ray disc that is being made available to all Netflix members. The free instant streaming disc leverages Blu-ray's BD-Live™ technology to access the Internet and activate the Netflix user interface on the PS3 system, which must be online via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Netflix members simply slide the disc into their PS3 systems to reveal movies and TV episodes that can be watched instantly. These titles are conveniently organized into a variety of categories based on members' personal preferences, popular genres, new arrivals and members' individual instant Queues. Members can use the Netflix Web site or navigate directly on their PS3 systems to add movies and TV shows to their Queues. With the PS3 system's Wireless Controller, members can choose a movie to watch from their instant Queues or just play directly from any of the lists. They also have the ability to read synopses and rate movies. In addition, they have the option of fast-forwarding and rewinding the video stream via the Wireless Controller.
Netflix members and PS3 system owners can now reserve a free instant streaming disc for PS3 systems by going to www.netflix.com/ps3 (http://www.netflix.com/ps3). Upon availability, the instant streaming disc will be delivered for free by first-class mail, generally one business day after members request it.

The disc is just initially, they are going to have a netflix app on the store or built into the XMB in a few months. First they are going to do cross game chat, then the netflix app i assume. Hopefully sony puts one of those discs inside every single PS3 being sold this holiday season with a large red NETFLIX sticker on the boxes. Really great news. I loved netflix on the 360 so time to re-subscribe to netflix.

In a way, i hope they dont since im tired of exclusive crap from the treatment MS gave sony this gen, but when you are the content owner, you deserve the benefits of being the owner of that property. So if they do remove sony/columbia movies/shows from the 360, i wont shed a tear for 360 only owners.
Wow. I heard some great things about Netflix. Could be a good alternative for cable for me and the girlfriend because her roommates are too cheap to pay monthly for it. Haha.
Edit: Oh yeah, do you think the PS3 would be able to stream the movies fast enough? I'm connected via wireless and my connection is decent enough. I've heard some 360 users complain that via wireless, the streams were kind of choppy.

Still the case. You can only stream so many things. Majority of new releases are not on there (normally only the B movies). I found that they come on about the same time they get put on Starz. As for TV shows, some shows are on there and others are not. I also cancelled it after finding that the choices that I would want to see werent available.

Yes, but only select movies/television shows are in HD, they have a decent selection though.
It costs extra for blu-ray, I believe it's $2.00 extra for the $8.99 plan which gives you 1 DVD out and unlimited instant streaming on the 360/PC and now PS3.

It'll be no different than the 360 - wireless isn't going to be as good as wired. For most people it should be fine though as long as your wireless connection is decent.
...One less reason for me to keep my Xbox.
elwood731

Answers to a few questions.
1. Is wireless decent quality for this?
As with anything, it will largely depend on a number of factors. However, I use wireless with my Xbox 360 and it streams the HD content fine. Netflix caches content, so it isn't exactly live streaming.
2. Is the selection any good?
Depends on you personally. There are thousands of movies and TV shows on there now. Shows like The Office, Dexter, and Friday Night Lights have multiple seasons, if not their entire runs. Many of the films are older, but they have more recent hits like Wall-e and Step Brothers.
Still, most of the content is older. Lots of it is the direct-to-video store you skipped over in the 80s (for those who remember real video stores before Blockbuster). If you're someone who will be happy with just a huge selection of movies and TV to watch whenever you want, then you might like it. I personally love it, but then I like old films. There's so much on there I haven't seen, and I even teach film at a university.
3. Will Sony pull content from Xbox 360?
Doubt it. The issue with Sony material a year or so ago on Xbox 360 was supposedly a glitch. I don't think Netflix wants to get into the habit of offering different tiers of services to different customers based on what interface they use (though they do this already to some extent with the HD content). If anything, I think it would be more likely that Sony would try adding exclusive content for the PS3 users. That's more plausible, but the other is pretty far fetched.

If Sony is smart they will limit Sony Pictures movies to the PS3 only. MS has basically built the 360 on snatching exclusives with large payouts this entire generation. This wouldn't even be like that since Sony does actually own all the rights to those movies.

I used to be netflix's best customer (I never got around to returning stuff), so I quit a long time ago. This would bring me back, but I have a few questions:
1. How fast does new episodes of tv shows go up, do they go up the next day like hulu?
2. Are the movies/tv shows cut or censored in anyway (I saw some Showtime tv shows, would love to watch them uncut without having to subscribe to showtime).

Very few "new" shows are up. Mostly what you get is once a show has hit DVD, they release it on Netflix, as well. One notable exception to this is Heroes, which has all of its current season episodes online. Not sure how fast they go online, though.
2. Are the movies/tv shows cut or censored in anyway (I saw some Showtime tv shows, would love to watch them uncut without having to subscribe to showtime).
No, the shows are not cut any different than the DVD versions.

It'd be stupid of them to do that from a financial perspective. And given Sony's current financial situation, they'll get whatever revenue they can from wherever they can. The only reason that help up Sony movies initially being on 360 through Netflix was Crossing T's and Dotting I's.

It won't. The only people who would be alienated would be 360 owners, therefore, Sony has nothing to lose. However, Sony would have an added advantage for PS3 owners, I really fail to see how this would hurt Sony at all...

It seems like Sony has an advantage here already. These movies seem to have BD Live, or at least some of them. And I'm guessing that also means DVD features, which are part of the reason I buy DVD's. If a DVD/BD doesn't have cool extra features, it feels like I've been cheating. So, if those come back to streaming, especially stuff I pay for, that's a cool bonus.

I can't really imagine how this would help anyone, even Sony, and I can't understand why you should be so excited to see Xbox users lose the ability to stream some movies. You are trying to make it sound like being able to stream a few more movies from Netflix is enough to make people buy a PS3? I don't think many people are basing their console purchases on so flimsy a reason as this. And if they are, these are not likely the people who would know that the Netflix services that the Xbox and PS3 get are different.
I think a more plausible explanation is this: for Sony, having the Netflix service is a positive thing, since it is one more feature they can advertise. Whether or not it is worth it or possible to explain to consumers that their service differs from the Xbox Netflix service is arguable; I do not think they gain much by doing this, and I don't think it is worth the negative PR they would gain by locking out some Sony movies.
Also, adding Netflix service to the PS3 is a positive thing for Netflix, as well, since it likely means they will get more subscribers. But this is the extent to which it is a good thing for Netflix. If it turns out that they will have to degrade their service in order to do this (by locking out some users from Sony content), they will have to consider whether they gain more PS3-based subscribers than they lose from subscribers who are now dissatisfied with the service.
More likely, they will not have to make this decision, since Netflix will probably insist that Sony not do this. Netflix would essentially be adding a feature to the PS3, and for Sony to require that Netflix downgrade their service for this privilege seems too much to ask.

Further reason to not pay for XBL then. As it is, I'm really debating what I want to do with my 360. I hardly ever use it anymore, and most games I can get cross-platform now. The only exclusives I see myself wanting is Mass Effect 2, but I could always get it on the PC.

Thank you for explaining this to the SDF.
Sony's goal is this to expand the market for it's films, not limit it.
Getting Netflix on the PS3 is a great selling point for the PS3, taking those films away from 360 Netflix users doesn't help sell anymore PS3's, it only pisses off 360 only owning Netflix users and generates bad publicity for Sony.
That makes as much sense as Sony only letting people steam their Netflix films to PC's if they are VIAO PC's.
And as Heretic said, there's no way Netflix would go along with an idea this stupid. It only hurts them, and thats not the goal of this partnership to bring Netflix to the PS3.
Anyone who thinks removing Sony owned films from the 360's Netflix service is a 'Smart' idea needs to go take A Business Management or Marketing 101 course at their local community college.

Update: Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities noted that the Blu-ray disc required for Netflix playback on the PS3 may circumvent exclusivity clauses instituted by Microsoft. "We believe that the exclusive arrangement limits Netflix's ability to appear on the 'dashboard' for the PS3 or the Wii." Additionally, Pachter believes Netflix streaming will expand to Nintendo's console next year. "We anticipate that a similar arrangement will be announced for the Wii in the next 12 months."
Michael Pachter takes a guess (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/netflix-is-coming-to-the-ps3/)at why it's being done with a disc for now and that the Wii will probably get a similar arrangement at some point.

Wow, I'm kinda surprised to see people *hoping* that Sony pulls out their films from the 360 version of Netflix. I can understand how some may feel that it'd be smart financially (although I'm not entirely sure how reducing the number of people watching your company's films is smart...Netflix selection isn't going to make or break which system most people purchase), but I don't know why anyone would root for a segment of the gaming population to lose a portion of the movies they can watch.
I have both systems, so I don't care too much either way. Personally though, it'd seem pretty shitty if exclusivity began entering the realm of Netflix.

People wanting an all-around media capable system area already going to go with the PS3. Cutting 360 owners from Sony movies won't guarantee a sizable portion of them will migrate to the PS3 just to stream those titles, especially since they can still get them in the mail. In my opinion, doing so would only be [an albeit minor] blow to their image and expose less people to their company's films.

Do you have a link for this? I don't doubt you're telling the truth, but I'm just looking for more details regarding this.
And timed exclusives suck in the gaming industry and would suck in the movie industry, but at least that's better than outright exclusivity. I don't have stock in Sony and I don't work for Sony, so maybe that's why I'm more interested in seeing as much media be available to as many people as I can than I am in comeuppance. Seeing 360 owners get shafted would make me as upset as seeing PS3 owners get shafted. And if browsing Netflix on 360 is preferred to browsing on PS3 to some people, it'd just be nice to know that you don't have to use one console to watch certain movies and another console to watch others. I'm not a fan of fragmenting the market unnecessarily.

Seeing 360 owners get shafted would make me as upset as seeing PS3 owners get shafted. Why would it be a problem? I can't count how many times PS3 owners got shafted over stuff due to MS exclusivity, patents (such as their custom soundtrack software patent which can replace any in-game music with custom music), etc. There's going to be various exclusives on each platforms. 360 can use twitter on the dashboard now which PS3 users can't do unless they use the browser.
But you gotta understand that I am a big PS3 fan here and have to deal with the shafting enough (although I own a PS3, 360, and Wii).

I can understand why Sony may want to one-up Microsoft - I'm just saying that I won't be rooting for it. I was upset when I heard about Microsoft patenting the custom soundtrack feature even before I had a PS3 (although it's not like Sony probably wouldn't have done the same thing in their shoes). I'm not excusing Microsoft, I'm just saying making everything exclusive doesn't end up helping anyone but the company. The lack of built-in custom soundtrack options on PS3 is evidence of that.
How much bandwidth do we need to stream 1080p? Anything less than that doesn't really interest me with blu-ray drive on PS3 that can play all the 1080p content I want.

WTF ever. You drink the Sony kool-aid like a crack head sucks dick for one more hit. Speaking of the shaft....
1. The PS3 has a browser
2. The PS3 is WAAAAY more reliable (thus the reason I have 2 360's and 1 PS3)
3. The PS3 won the Hi-Def war
4. The PS3 is the successor to the best selling console of all fucking time
5. The PS3 is MUCH better value (built in WI-Fi, Blu-Ray player, game player, home media player, swappable hard drives, bluetooth compatibility, etc)
The odds are all stacked against the Xbox and yet it is still stomping a mud puddle in the PS3's ass.
And do you really care that much between 720 and 1080?
Yes. That's is why I spent hundreds more on 1080p TV and I intend to get my money worth.

God that is the truth. I love my PS3, I really do, but I didn't get one until MUCH later due to the high barrier of entry. I remember the shit storm when the price points were announced. I was ready for the PS3 to get to retail shelves and start gutting the 360 based purely on its pedigree alone but $600 was too much at once for the public to swallow.

Actually this one is really debatable because the economy turned to shit JUST before the PS3 launch. If the economy was still good, it could have been something completely different. But even then, 600 dollars is a life decision and a huge purchase while the 360 was seen as a game console. That 600 was rent for a month, it was a really GOOD car payment, it was utilities and so much more. It essentially made it seem like it was for the affluent. With people losing jobs left to right it was one hell of a hard sale. There's a lot of what ifs with not only the launch price but the economy tumbling exactly at the point when the PS3 came out with that monsterous tag.

Can someone help me with a question about caching?
I have my PS3 wireless with DSL, so I'm not doing great speed-wise.
Could I start downloading a movie, like in the morning before I go to work, and expect to have the full film downloaded and ready to go when I get home, or will Net-Flix insist on streaming after adjusting the cache to work for me?
If it insists on caching, is it consistent? With no pauses?
I would want to mostly watch HD content, but the ideal for me is to just let it fully download ahead of time. I'd appreciate if someone could help me out. Thanks

Now netflix on 8.99 on PS3, however is this service giving you more than the xbox service which is basically 7.99?
The odds are all stacked against the Xbox and yet it is still stomping a mud puddle in the PS3's ass.
Not exactly, PS3 has outsold 360 if you align their launches, i.e. 360's lead is only due to being out for longer and it's diminishing more and more recently. To say 360 has dominated PS3 or even done much better is foolish. Also, how many 360's are just repurchases, could be as high as a few million.
If you are looking at number worldwide Xbox 360 doesnt have a huge lead. For example Xbox 360 is doing better in UK but PS3 got more support in Germany. In Japan Xbox is a non factor.

While I can't speak for Netflix I do know that all the movies I have rented on the PSN were downloaded into the movie menu. I usually hit the pause button have a smoke grab a drink and let it buffer for about 10mins and were good to go for watching. I dont think real time watching would be a problem if you buffered it for a few mins. I have a 3mbps DSL connection over wireless and never really had a problem with HD on the PSN.
The cool thing I noticed recently is when im watching a movie and somebody logs my account in from another room it signs me out but continues to download. Before it would stop the download and really piss me off.

The 360 sold roughly 7-8 million units in it's first year...it is currently roughly 7 million units ahead of the PS3...oh and the 360 happened to launch a year ahead of the PS3. If you check sales based on years out, each console stacks up roughly the same, so I don't really see how that is "stomping a mud puddle in the PS3's ass"...
And perhaps he forgets that the 360 only got it's lead on the competition by rushing the thing to market with not enough adequate testing & knowing full well before they launched that there were serious issues with the design that were leading to widespread failure. 3 year warranties only came after class action lawsuits. So yea their lead to market on the competition was a legitimate one.

I thought that when you bought xbox live service.. you got the netflix service for free.... Of course the service is great, but I don't think that its that big of a deal, and could really contribute to console sales. "you buy your console to play games, not watch movies" according to numerous x-bots. One thing is for certain, how desperate is MS, they try to make everything exclusive. Netflix, facebook, twitter, games, DLC, damn.. what's next?

When it comes to current number of consoles in a house today excuses like "it came out a year earlier" or "how many of those are re-purchases" don't hold up. At the end of the day the winner is the one with the most consoles in homes right this second. That is the number that counts and that is the number that the PS3 is lacking. Spin/twist it however you choose but right this moment the PS3 is losing.

Will the disk require just one spin up per Netflix usage or will it continually use the drive while using Netflix? I would imagine it just does a disk check (kinda like the 360 does with installed games) and then leaves the disk alone.

you know this netflix service may end up putting PSN video store out of business. The PSN downloads are too slow, so if I can buy one month of netflix here and there, and have "streaming" that works then how can I ever justify going back to the PSN video store. For me, I rather order it on a month to month basis as needed, rather than just trying to set up reoccurring payments because I know there will be times where I won't be able to enjoy the movie.

Yeeeeah.... dont count on that. PSN store gets new releases available for instant streaming, netflix does not. Its why its a compliment to the psn store vs competition to it. Its awesome for TV shows and older movies, but when it comes to newer flicks, Mall Cop can only take netflix so far.

Um, no, that's not how it works. There are no excuses here, just straight up facts. MS rushed the 360 to the market a full year ahead of the PS3. That right there basically makes up the difference in units sold for this generation and as someone pointed out, how many of those 360's are re-purchases? I'll let that part slide for now because the truth is that PS3 and 360 are roughly the same units sold-wise if you line up their years on the market.

Don't really see the "fail" in it. We're getting access to the service earlier than we would if they just waited for XMB integration. If someone doesn't wanna use the disc, just wait then. It's not like having it out there early impacts anything at all.
Anyway, this is great news for me. I hate using my 360 for anything but gaming, the fragile piece of crap that it is.

If there was no disc based system right now, Microsoft would've just kept paying for exclusivity, meaning PS3 never would get it. Since there is a disc based system, it means Microsoft won't re-up on the exclusivity because they got the raw end of the deal.

There's a big difference between losing and what you said earlier. And how are they losing when they've done better for their time on the market? It's not simply lifetime sales #'s comparison. Keep ignoring everything that goes into the numbers. It's not just a year, it was 15.5 months in EU. And what good is a lead when they intentionally screwed you over to get it?

I don't see the disc as a major hurdle, but it is something that bugs me. The thing I like about Netflix being integrated into the 360 is that it's easy to jump from a game and hop right into it without having to get up and switch discs. And while I take care of my games, I'd still feel better knowing that I don't have to worry about a physical piece of media being scratched.
The disc is a temporary solution, so it's no big deal. I'm eager to see how the experience compares to the 360s and which one I ultimately end up using more for streaming.

Exactly. On the computer, it's obviously easy to navigate the list. But on the 360, it's a pain if you have a lot of movies. I suspect the PS3 interface will be similar. So, moving something up the list makes it easier to find.

Just popped mine in and activated it. Definitely feels a bit sluggish navigating through the movies. Until it gets integrated, I will probably still do a lot of impulse viewing on the 360, but this will still be nice for when I know I wanna sit down and watch a particular movie.

gotta put the disc in every time you wanna watch netflix on the ps3?!? No thanks... I'll go back to the xbox for my netflix instant queue AND be able to browse some of the instant stuff also!

Picking your movie is a little more sluggish then xbox 360 but i think the movie loads faster after you picked it.
And also the disc does not constantly spin when your playing the movie.
I am wondering if some of the blu ray players can take advantage of this if netflix streaming isnt built in.. somebody try it yet?

whoops - that's what I get for talking before actually putting the disc in!
Eh - but still - I'm a lazy ass and don't want to have to put the disc in every time I want to watch netflix. I'll try it out though. I watch instant a good bit with my wife. I get four bars for quality on xbox - even with hd stuff so I don't really have a reason to switch over to ps3 for this. Both my systems are plugged in with ethernet cables.

I am curious how well the streaming will work etc.
Once you disconnect do you lose what was downloaded or is it stored in a flash type state, as long as the PS3 is not turned off?
stupid question probably but I have not had netflix for years and this stuff wasnt the norm when i did.

After you pick your movie and are actually streaming, it works great. However, browsing the instant selections and your queue is a bit sluggish compared to the 360's current setup. It reminded me a bit of the earlier iterations of the PSN store where all the icons were slow/sluggish to load in. Hopefully, when they program the XMB functionality they can clean it up a bit so that things pop in instantaneously like the 360 version. Also on the interface front, it doesn't handle entries with multiple episodes quite as well. (It is all there and works, just not quite as quickly or smoothly.)
My only other (also very minor) gripe is that when you choose to quit playback it dumps you back to the XMB instead of the Netflix menu. So everytime you want to switch shows you have to rewait through the Bluray's Netflix load. However, to avoid this during playback you can hit triangle and choose menu to reload directly back into Netflix so it is once again no big deal.
All and all, this is a great functional addition to my PS3 with just a few minor rough edges. Anyone with PS3 should definitely check it out.

Tried it out for a bit. Like Jasonofindy said, the streaming seems to work well so far but my god is the navigation slow and clunky. Normally I fault Microsoft for clunky menu navigation, but this makes Netflix on LIVE look godly. I can't fault Sony for this though as it definitely looks like it was designed by the Netflix team and not at all built to suit Sony's slick XMB and OS. I think when a disc-less, Sony-designed version comes out next year it'd probably be a lot more pleasant to use. For now, I'd rather stick with LIVE's offering.

Is the disc from Netflix or from Sony? I'm thinking about signing for a free trial to see how this works.
I'm wondering why it's going to take so long for a discless Netflix app... I'd think it would just be a matter of running the software off of the HD vs a disc but I don't exactly know how all this works so I'm probably missing something.

Just go the disc and trying it out.
Like others said the menu/navigation system is WAY more clunky then the Xbox version. I do notice that the PS3 seems to start the shows alot quicker then my Xbox does though. The picture quality is good but I am noticing some bluring that I do not see on my Xbox. This does by no means take away from the overall picture quality just strange to my eye. Please note this is not an internet connection problem this is the way that the PS3 streams as opposed to the Xbox. Overall I am very happy and now have the ability to stream entertainment both to my Living Room and Bedroom.

I can say that I haven't experienced this yet. In my case once things are streaming the two are identical. Since you have them in different rooms, it could be a difference in how the two TVs render the image. Is one CRT and one LCD?
As far as a quicker streaming startup, I am not sure if it actually starts faster or if it just appears to because it only shows one screen (Netflix with spinning circle of dots) as opposed to actually showing multiple screens like the 360. (the speed determination and data bar caching screens). In any case it at least psychologically feels like it starts a bit faster.

Well I just watched one of the craziest Japanese movies ever called Machine Girl on my PS3. Good stuff. Anyway, The movie streamed very quickly in SD. Didn't stop halfway through or anything. Audio was out of sync for me just by a few milliseconds. Picture quality was good. I am satisfied. Getting through is a little slow, but this is through a Blu-Ray disc and not software installed on the Hard Drive. I'm sure the UI will definitely be revamped when released in a Firmware update.

Wow what a disappointment this turned out to be. I mean it is pretty cool that we don't have to pay an extra monthly fee for a service like XBL gold to access Netflix, but you can tell that this UI was rushed. Hopefully once Netflix is integrated into the XMB things will smooth out, but I am very disappointed with how slow and clunky the UI is.

I won't feel any disappointment about this until they integrate it. If it's still slow, then I'd be concerned.
Is it possible to stream to both the 360 and the PS3 at the same time?
My brother's got a PS3 at home in Ohio, and I have a 360 here in CA. I'm willing to let him use my Netflix account on his system from time to time, but I don't want to encounter issues between the two.

Indeed, you can. Just tested it out on my systems and my computer. On the Netflix site, it says "You can watch instantly on up to 6 unique devices." Wasn't sure if they meant you could have 6 devices registered to your account, but I did just do three, so I assume they mean 6 at once.

I am running it on the same tv as before (I have not hooked up the bedroom 360 yet). I only notice the blur during camera swings. I asked my girlfriend about it to and she noticed it too but only after I pointed it out. Its not a deal breaker but I notice it. BTW its on a 50" Panasonic 1080p Plasma.
I also timed the 2 for loading up the same thing and the PS3 (for me) is slightly faster by several seconds. Again though your connection will dictate this.

They will integrate it next year. Netflix just did the disc thing so they get this out asap and could start before the holidays.

Has anyone else had problems with the aspect ratio? When watching SD content the PS3 automatically changes it's output resolution to what I assume is 480p, and no matter what I do all content is displayed at 4:3. I haven't tried HD streams but since they're native widescreen I doubt it would be a problem.
It's incredibly annoying, though, since most of the movies on there are SD. Anything on the PS3's end or is it likely my monitor?

I don't know why, but I had horrible audio sync issues with the disc last night. Tried restarting, didn't make any difference. After a few seconds, I couldn't get the audio back to normal from about a 1/2 second delay.
60GB model, streaming wirelessly. Never had any problems with PlayOn on this unit. In fact, I went back to PlayOn afterward.

That's usually a case of not having enough bandwidth. My GF was downloading something once while I started watching a movie and the audio was off by a food 2-3 seconds. I paused the movie, waited about 10 seconds and then rewound back about 15-30 seconds and it was fine. It seemed more like the buffer didn't fill up enough before the video started (for my case)...

Is there a specific show you'd like checked to compare?
So far no probs for me. Your monitor probably doesn't have the perfect pic size option to tweak 4:3 content to fit a widescreen tv/monitor.
I watched Dead Like Me and it shows as 4:3 viewed in it's "natural" state on a Toshiba set, but is squashed and stretched out wide when in "Full". Luckily, I have a "Theater Wide 1" option that perfectly fits it into widescreen without distortion. The tv sees and labels the PS3 signal as 480p 16:9.
Picked out Ben X (foreign flix) and that displays perfectly at 480p 16:9 full resolution. Nothing to change.
I'm really happy that Netflix streaming came to fruition. Makes my new PS3 that much more justifiable and enjoyable.

And maybe consider the type of video cable you're using. Some of those video options are only possible when outputting progressive.
I use component video cables, and the two shows johnnypark mentioned displays correctly.

I don't think it is the case in this instance. I've got 5 meg cable service and nothing else was running over the net at any point. I had the same issue again last night. I have yet to get this Netfilx disc to stream correctly.
Never had an issue like this using the PC, 360, or PlayOn. I guess I'll wait till it's a XMB option and see if it works any better then. In the meantime, PlayOn works fine. Only real benefit of the disc would be that I wouldn't have to leave my computer active all the time.
