Gamestop running their B2g1 next week

He's talking about a glitch in BB's register system that would ring up the middle game as the free game no matter the cost of the other games. People were putting a $60 game in between 2 $10 games and getting the $60 game for free.

He could also mean the placeholder strategy of getting a game now only to return it sealed in a couple of weeks for a game they wanted in Nov.

Well I know about the BB glitch, but why would that have any relation to the GS B2G1 thread? It sounds to me he is just pissed off that people were abusing that glitch of BB (which have these glitches all the time), and now trying to bring it to a GS B2G1 thread, which really have no relevance to each other. Even the placeholder glitch has no validity here since these are always on used games anyways, so it's not like the TRU thing, but that really isn't a glitch in the system. If he wanted to preach, make a new thread about it in the appropriate section instead of making inferences of fake glitches that don't exist in other deal threads. I have talked to some rep's I am fairly close with at GS, and they have told me time and time again that they have very little prior knowledge of these sales. They usually get some type of communication litterally the day before, saying something to the effect of "we're about to have a B2G1...dig out the signage, it starts tomorrow".

Are you serious about this post? Or did you just miss all of the B2G1 free that GS have been doing for the good first 8 months into this year, lol. If anything, its more like all the other competitors have been doing it after GS stopped doing theirs, plus, those are different too since they are on new games, and not used as the retail stores. Last week, the OP said that the b2g1 would be next week. That means the sale will run this week. As has been previously stated, GS usually runs their sales Friday through Sunday (actually, starts late Thursday). So all complaints are invalid until Friday morning.

I wasn't just driving to Gamestop to look for the Buy 2 Get 1 deal, I was checking a couple that were near where I was going for an SP and while I was there looked to see if they had anything going on. Based on the post I thought the sale might be for this week, not this past weekend and since I went on Sunday I thought I would just double check that they didn't start anything.

It happens. I just checked the GS site, and there are two stores within 25 miles of me that have used copies of the 360 version, 1 day after release. A couple years back I was in a GS during a B2G1, and I was able to snag a copy of DMC4, which had come out only 3 days before. (I do not understand the circumstances that would cause someone to trade in a game within 24 hours of buying it; but it happens)

Also of note; a lot of used games have been given "Online price only" prices that are a good $5+ off the in-store price. A few that I saw:

:360:Halo 3 ODST $49.99 used online / $54.99 used in-store
:360:NBA 2K10 $49.99 used online / $54.99 used in-store
:360:Batman: Arkham Asylum $49.99 used online / $54.99 used in-store

:360::ps3:Fight Night Round 4 $32.99 used online / $44.99 used in-store

They've done B2G1's within a few weeks before, so thats not an issue.

Having the sale now doesnt hurt the 3 days long black friday sale. They've had 5 consecutive weeks of 20% bonus trade in on (Wii, DS, PSP, PS3, 360) respectively. They're definitely ready for one. It might even be the worst case scenario to sit on all that extra inventory for 3 extra weeks when new inventory is always coming in.

Did not stop GS from putting 3 B2G1 within a couple months time earlier on this year. You never know with GS. They even put up B2G1 for RE5 release weekend. But like I said, with GS, you never know. Especially now that many GC stores are closed down, no time like the present to start getting new customers for the upcoming holiday season.

Usually the B2G1 sales are available both online and in-store. Sadly, you can't stack CAG16 with a B2G1 (although you can stack an Edge card with either, and SAVER works).

As you pointed out, there are some games with the $5 "Online price only" discount that come up as not available online. I've seen a few switch in and out of that status, so it is something to keep an eye on. The games I listed in my OP were all available and ready to ship when I posted.

They get the word the morning of; there have been several days where I have gone to GameStop and they have had the signs sitting out waiting to put them up that night.

Well, in reality the attitude of "ITS ON OMG" is just as bad. The only "evidence" that it is happening is the OP, who said that a "good friend" who is a GS manager told him last Monday that there would be a B2G1 "next week". It has been 10 days since then, and the OP has never come back. So how did this GS GM get inside info so early, when nobody else seems to have gotten it? It all seems pretty fishy to me, ESPECIALLY since GS has run a B2G1 every year for the past 6-7 years the week after Thanksgiving. It doesn't seem likely that GS would run a B2G1 twice in the same month.

That being said; I hope it is true. Cheap games are cheap games after all :bouncy:

Incorrect. They start one on Black Friday every single year, which was the main reason I thought this rumor was crap in the first place. The site tends to be very, very hit and miss. Almost all the good stuff (IMO) is always out of stock/unavailable. Then occasionally when I actually find a few things I want and am ready to check out I will go to my cart and one of the items has become unavailable. Also, some people like to check out the condition of the games in store, can't do that online. Cag16 is nice though.

In the past, the online site didn't guarantee cover art/manual. That's no longer the case, but the only reason why B&M could be better is if they are out of stock online.

History says there will be a B2G1 starting on Black Friday, not before. I doubt GS would change the strategy they have employed for the past 5+ years. All the better in my book, since it'll be easier to grab Dragon Age and maybe *fingers crossed* MW2 at that point.

Same here. Gamestop is my primary video game shopping venue and I've always been pleased with them. However I buy almost exclusively used, always trade in, and I'm not very picky about the condition of the game as long as it plays. Over the years I have only had to return one game as well and they were very courteous and quick to exchange. Gamestop is where its at for me.

I try to only buy games that are 20+ hours with high replay value. Anything shorter or that only looks like it is worth one run through I get through GameFly. And if I ever do get sick of a game I'd rather hold onto it and let someone borrow it than to pawn it off for 50¢ at GS or $4 on Ebay. I throw out all of my DVD boxes too...the horror :hot:

Its likely that its just for those local fund raising events, but the possibility exists that the B2G1 deal hits next weekend and those Gamestops provided the information to the malls so as to be added to the list of promotions. I just found it noteworthy since both had the deal listed for the same weekend.

Its a longshot but I thought I'd share for those that are interested.


These small world coincidences always blow me away. I literally have family that lives in New Philadelphia, and I hate going home to see them. I guess this will give me a reason to go. So this thread was not a total bust for me after all. Thanks a ton donbaloo

I can't see how anyone's time was wasted. If you have time to get all excited about sales, research what games to get, etc. I would guess you have plenty of it.

My take on why this thread has erupted into such a mess was the amount of time between the threads creation and the sale. I agree with someone else who said that the OP was trying to do a good thing by giving everyone as much notice as possible. Unfortunately the reality is that anything about GS (from the Trade in thread to the weekly coupons to the new game price drops) is a lightning rod which provokes a great deal of discussion among CAGS. So when someone creates a thread about their best type of sale (which is rarely confirmable) and it's created 10 days in advance it will inevitably result in argumentation even if the sale actually happens.

after making several phone calls this morning and talking to a few peeps, I was told more often than not, they don't know about buy 2 get 1 till the night before the sale happens more often than not... good luck to all! not back to dj hero and tekken 6

This thread's fate will be decided by 8pm ET when the first GS closes. But like previous B2G1 deals they don't know until very close of the sale. Which makes total sense to protect their gold mine. You don't want some employee yapping to their preferred customers to come back at 7pm on Friday to buy two games.
