Because my system memory says 314MB left when I check the options, but it says 256MB on the outside of the box, where it compares the arcade and elite consoles.
it's already been posted here that MS has an excess of the older arcade boxes, and they're using them with the new jasper consoles...

I got the 512 mb one that is a Jasper so not sure about that.
Where you mentioned 512mb memory, and other guy mentioned 256mb. Mines just 256mb, and the console was made August 2009. Weird.

Yes, but I don't want a giftcard to BB. That's the problem for me at least.
Walmart's ad was never for a $99 Xbox.

Ummm...why does that mean it has to be a Microsoft thing? I didn't realize Microsoft gave out Wal-Mart gift cards. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Along with the fact that no other store is doing anything like this.
Microsoft is probably subsidizing this deal like they have in the past with other deals. Its a risky plan but has paid off big for them as you can see in the sales numbers. It gets more units into consumers hands and brings more people into the store, win/win for both parties. My company does this with our larger distributors, offer a rebate in their name. It makes them look better and we sell more product.

Thanks, genius. I didn't realize I was dealing with a genuine professional.
I meant that if the deal were extended, MS is likely picking up the tab through some incentive arrangement with Wal Mart. Actually, the fact that it lasted more than a day makes this likely to be the case.

Yeah the problem with the elite is $100 more. He has just $200. We will probably just order from amazon.

The 360 Arcade deal is good through Friday.
If the store scans a 360 Arcade at the register, it will prompt for them to add the gift card to the purchase.
I don't believe there's any way for a store to override or cancel this.
If you go to a Walmart this week and see an Arcade in the case, you're good to go for the deal.
Basically, when you go to check out, the register will prompt for the card. Period.
I had to return the Arcade console I purchased on Nov. 7th because it was essentially DOA (RRoD as soon as I put a game in). Took ~30 minutes to exchange the defective console for a new one, mainly because the register wanted to give me ANOTHER $100 gift card.
One of the employees was able to find a way to override the gift card. She pretty much had to try every single combination of cancel/yes/no though.
Edit: This return was on the next day, Nov. 8th
Edit2: My defective machine from Nov 7th was a Jasper manufactured in May 2009. The new machine was manufactured in August 2009 and had different box art (no mention of the Pro version). Both machines had an internal MU of 512MB.

Yeah mine has a 150w power supply also which you only find on Jaspers and also if you look at another post I did with a link(it shows the prongs that match with a Jasper unit). Someone mentioned an older box but then why is there only the Arcade and Elite on the box. I just think it is misprint since I have 332 still left on my machine after initial setup. I'm sure you have Jasper.

Yeah, mine says 256MB on the box, but I've got 322 after the initial setup too. Mine was manufactured on 7/16/09. Is anybody else noticing that their disk drive is really loud? My disk drive is almost constantly clicking and making noise as if its on a loading screen. My other 360 is 2 years old and isn't nearly as noisy.

I am pretty much in the same boat Organ Donor. My disk drive is really loud, what gives? Wal-Mart receive a bad batch of 360s and needed to find a way to unload?

It may be a Jasper, but it could be any one of like three possible DVD-ROM drives - BenQ, Samsung/Toshiba or Hitachi drives.
Some may be quieter or louder than others. Check your disc tray with this: http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_360_DVD_Drive_Comparison.htm (a little out dated, but a good starting point)
Provided you get a hard drive, a work around the noise would be to install your game to the hard drive and just leave the disc inside the tray. The Xbox requires that, while you will be loading/playing the game from the HDD, the physical disc must remain inside the tray.
EDIT: Found a way better DVD drive database @ http://www.360drives.com/list
^ let's you search by team name, prod. date, where you bought it, etc.

This if my first 360, so I can't compare but it does seem kind of loud to me. From what I can tell I have a Jasper with 512MB and a Lite-On drive.

I believe only playing games from the hard drive goes a long way towards preventing system failure. Both times my old system rrod it sounded as if it was struggling to read the disc . Since they allowed the copy to hard drive function, no rrod(knock wood). I think M$'s hand was probably forced to add the copy to hdd by the state of their own hardware. Even the guy in the Xbox 101 video says it causes less stress on the system and makes for a happier, healthier Xbox.
Yes it sucks having to buy an overpriced drive(no fakes either!) and it's a pita if you only have 20gb and always have to delete games but the hard drive is the way to go. Better load times, quieter, more dependable.

Yeah, the DVD drive sounds like a Jet Engine taking off. I didn't think I needed a HD since I wasn't going to play online but now not sure as dl the games to the hd seems to be the way to go. So it isn't normal to sound that loud? My g/f even mentioned what is that sound every time I turn it on. lOL. My PS3 never sounds like that even after playig it for a few hours. I think I'm going to return it as it was an impulse buy.
