UPDATE:

The 360 Arcade deal is good through Friday.

If the store scans a 360 Arcade at the register, it will prompt for them to add the gift card to the purchase.

I don't believe there's any way for a store to override or cancel this.

If you go to a Walmart this week and see an Arcade in the case, you're good to go for the deal.

Basically, when you go to check out, the register will prompt for the card. Period.

Wow, I might have to try to get in on that, just to prepare for the inevitable next RRoD. Thanks, Cheapy!

May also be worth noting that the same scan has a Sharp 52" 120HZ TV for $898. I mean, yeah, it's a Sharp, but still...may not be a bad deal for people on a budget.

here's a link to the likely product: http://www.walmart.com/Sharp-52-LCD-HDTV-LC52SB57UN/ip/11070378

Just saw this on Kotaku. Just purchased an Arcade at BB at $200 three weeks ago b/c my other E74'd! :bomb:

$100 for a back up unit sounds very tempting, especially if you have to pay MSFT $100 to fix a unit that isn't covered under warranty...

oh i know, I just meant in case you surpassed the 3 year warranty or if they try to give you an excuse that for some reason your unit isn't covered. That's sweet you got a refund!

And I would also say that anyone getting one has a 99.9% chance of getting a jasper, unless you go somewhere that hasn't been restocked in a year. Just look for a Netflix logo b/c that is all over the new packaging.

I know these get asked about every time a nice deal comes along, but I know *nothing* about the Arcade unit.

These have HDMI now, right?

So, how simple is it to take the HDD from my current 360 and move it to the Arcade unit? I really want to do this, since my current console has no HDMI. Maybe I could sell it and make back some cash too. I can't really remember what hoops I'd have to jump through with DLC and such (DRM).

Yeah, the new ones have HDMI. The hard drives snap on & off so that isn't a problem. Think if you play online you don't have to worry about the DLC. Otherwise, you'll just have to transfer the license to the new console.

Not sure about the HDMI part, but for the Hard drive part its really easy. For the arcade thers just a plastic covering over the hard drive area but its an easy remove and then you just put in your hard drive like you normally would.

I'll probably be all over this Sat. morn.

I've been waiting for a deal like this so I could go Jasper + HDMI. I don't really think I need more than my 20GB HD, but with this I could buy one and not spend more than $200 total.

how much do you know about transferring licenses? Like I said, when mine died, I just went out and got a new arcade and plopped my 120gb on there. I specifically contacted MSFT to say I wanted to register this unit as new and 'retire' my old, should I ever opt to send it in and get repaired. They said all this was fine and processed it.

Now, I went to download the new DLC for GTAIV and noticed I had the free fallout theme in my queue, as pending, never downloaded (they sent this out the week after I got the new unit) so I added the DLC to my queue and went to active dl's on the console. It was just pending. Upon clicking it, I get a message "This content is not valid on this machine." Now, funny thing is, it still let me download a play, and also let me get the Fallout theme.

Should I be worried? Or should I call MSFT and have them make sure my Xbox.com is linked properly w/ my account and S/N?? Also, I've noticed that if you switched consoles, you have to reinstall games to the HDD or they don't play on the HDD (don't know if this is a license issue as well) sorry to be off topic.

Sweet, this may even be a better deal than the Costco one (though that was a Pro model). I'm guessing this doesn't come bundled with any games though, right? I know the Arcades used to include some XBLA titles, but I honestly haven't looked in awhile.

They can't do anything that you can't do here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/default.htm

That is the proper way to move your content to a new console. You can only do this once a year. The one part that sucks is that you may need to re-download everything (going to the download history section in account management makes this easy, but it is still time-consuming).

Anyway, I'm assuming that this is B&M only and one per customer, but can anyone confirm this?

This is what I was talking about. I *knew* there was something like that I was forgetting about.

I upgraded my HDD from the 20 to a 120 a while back...and that "once a year" thing was what I was forgetting. I dunno if it has been a year yet since I've done that. Either way, I still think I'm gonna jump on one. That HDMI is way too tempting. (Component to my receiver is annoying, and it will free up the component slot for my Wii.)

Usually, whenever you buy something and receive a free item, you can't return that something without also returning the free item. I would expect this to be true here as well.

If they have Jaspers, this is certainly a good deal. You could use the gift card to pick up a 60 GB hard drive Live Bundle for $89.96 + tax. then you've got the equivalent of an Xbox 360 Pro 60 GB and with 3 months of live too and a tiny amount left on the gift card, for $200+tax. Not bad at all.

I have to assume blitz is smart enough to know that you can't return without returning the gift card (although with what some people here try to pull off, who knows).

I think what's worth discussing is if you can buy a second with the first gift card, then return the first console with the second gift card. Effectively using the gift card for the console ...

Couple of qs from an Xbox noob...

Do these Arcades still have BC with original Xbox games?
What size drive would be enough for someone who doesn't plan on downloading big titles, my 80gb ps3 is half full, is that a good indicator?
Walmart's $80 wireless adapter a decent deal or will I have better luck on Ebay/GS, etc?
Is the controller rechargable out of the box, or is that extra too?

You'd have to return the gift card, but you could use the gift card from the first purchase to buy the second, and then return the second gift card with the first console. That way you can essentially use your GC on the purchase of the console. I assume this would work, but I've never dealt with Walmart returns before.

Not 100%, but I think you need a HD and internet connection for BC.
Most people get away with a 20gb HD just fine.

Controller is not rechargeable out of the box. You'll need a play & charge kit for like $15 or so.

Sure, but you wouldn't likely be getting a Jasper with those bundle Pro versions. Were any of the Pro bundles Jaspers? The arcade you're much more likely to find as a Jasper. Besides that, if you don't want the bundled games, this is a better deal. $200 for the equivalent of a 60 GB Jasper Pro, plus a few dollars left on the gift card. Spend the $50 you saved by doing this on some cheap games you actually want, or whatever.

I think what would be better to say is how about everyone wishing to discuss this do it over at slickdeals. Yes, if it works great if not who cares. I am sure everyone can find something to spend $100 on @ walmart.

This thread will be 100 pages long with 90 of them repeating about the return and purchase as you state.BTW, I could care less about moral/ethical thoughts on this. If they allow it, it isn't fraud. What I care about is the repeated exploiting of deals which in the end amounts to less deals in the future.

1)According to MS, you need a hard drive or to download something to a PC, burn it to a disk and then stick that in the machine or order a disk from them. A memory card (separate or built in like on the arcades) won't work. On the hard drive, the patches only take up a couple MB or sometimes just a couple hundred KB.

http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/kb.aspx?id=911314&lcid=1033&category=gamesandmedia.

2)The system uses about 8-9GB of hard drive space on its own, so with a 20 GB drive empty, you have about 11 GB of space. Demos run often run about 500MB-1 GB or so. Ripping games to play on the hard drive 4 and a bit GB. If you can get a deal on a 60GB go for it but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to pick up a used 20gb for $30-ish on ebay. The price on them won't fall much more and the odds are prices will fall for larger drives over time, so you aren't risking much by starting small. You just can't be a huge packrat if you have a 20GB

3)There is a newer version of the wireless module (with N level transmission speeds) coming out in the next few days at a higher price, so there might be a fair number people trading up dropping he used prices on the older ones.....Or you can try to pick up one at Gamestop on a buy 2 get one free deal....they run around 65 or so if I remember correctly

4) As someone pointed out, for rechargeables you'll need a plug and charge kit, but you could also just use rechargeable AAs if you have them and charger....Personally, I just use regular AAs because the last alot longer than the plug and charge battery, although I guess I'm a bad person for creating more trash by doing this.

I thought the Pure/Batman bundle was only in the Elite? If so, those are $299. A little cheaper at Dell. While the Jasper's aren't proven yet, odds are they are going to last longer and they are definitely quieter and cooler-running then their forebears and that's a plus. If it were me I wouldn't buy a pre-Jasper, but the individual can decide on that.

So I have an xbox already - I'm not completely understanding the transfer info. If I transfer my hd to this new box - does that make it unusable on the old box? I would like to have this one in my bedroom and be able to swap the hd back and forth. Could I do that?

If all you want it for is to play netflix, why not pick up a Roku Netflix box? That not only does Netflix, but Amazon on demand, or whatever it's called, and it's only $100 and includes wireless.

Can you play Halo on the Roku? I didnt think so...

You'll be fine for netflix with the built-in memory these units have. It only requires like 10mb if I remember correctly.

Walmart's $80 wireless adapter a decent deal or will I have better luck on Ebay/GS, etc?

Everyone else answered your other questions, but the REAL answer for this question is, get a used and/or refurbished Linksys WGRT54 for $20 - put DD-WRT firimware on it, and use it as a 4-port wireless bridge. If you do some searching there's plenty of articles about doing it. It's fairly easy to set up, took me about 10 minutes to get everything done.

For all those people asking about wireless adapters:

DO NOT waste your money on the Microsoft adapter unless you are completely clueless when it comes to wireless configuration. You can use a wireless bridge, connect it to the Ethernet port and save a bunch of cash. All it takes is 5-10 minutes and a wee bit of know-how to set it up. The only benefit of the MS adapter is that it comes with no-effort setup.

Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320025

It's $42.

edit: Izod517 offered another great suggestion.

It's actually only a 3mb file for Netflix (i saw it the other night when browsing the contents in my 'memory') but another poster was onto something when they mentioned local cache-ing...so, i'm not sure if you need an HDD or not now for Netflix.

Or just buy any dd-wrt or tomato capable router and turn it into a wireless bridge and then connect your 360 into it via ethernet cable. A decent router will cost you 35 -45

Edit: Haha. seems like a couple of fellow CAGs have already made the same suggestions above

I just looked at 3 different Microsoft pages promoting the Netflix feature and none of them say that you need a hard drive. All of them state that the requirements are a Netflix subscription that allows online viewing, and an Xbox LIVE Gold membership.

So it should be safe to assume that you will be able to do this out of the box with your free 1-month Gold trial (although to keep it going, you'll need to pay for Gold a month later...luckily the holiday deals are right around the corner).

I'm definitely giving this a shot if GS's trade in value for my crappy 2 or 3 year old 360 is $95. I might just hold onto my old 360, too, and give it to someone else. It overheats or something occasionally and shuts off but it works fine most of the time. I think I will have to buy an expensive first party HDMI cable if I want to use surround sound with the HDMI cable, but the upgrade is definitely something I need. I wanted to wait until they eventually come out with a 360 Slim, but for $100, I'll go ahead and pick up a second unit.

I share a wireless connect card on the PS3 and games run fine with a good connection. With an actual netbook using wifi and sharing that, should work alot better.

I would say the likelihood of winding up with a non-Jasper is very low. Jaspers have been shipping for quite some time now and I would imagine that Walmart sells plenty of 360s.

This is all speculation, but I read the OP and hothitter's post to mean that 5 units are guaranteed in stock at each location, and that a return/rebuy is valid until Friday, 11/13. "Doorbuster" may or may not be a techinical term, so perhaps an employee or someone with inside information could tell us. Somehow the posts so far that don't believe a return/rebuy would work are unconvincing and sound more like opinion than fact.

I'll have time to go there Saturday so if anything I'll just show up at open to buy another one for the GC and return the one I bought today. Or if need be, I'll just return mine for the GC. Or if need be, I'll just return it straight out. There was only one at my local one so that counts out the 5 per store story. I also doubt there would even be 5 people who know about this going to that one.

Yeah, from my experience with a sale like this, they guarantee a minimum of 5 units (typically for the Wal-Mart in the middle of Kansas), and higher populated area stores will have many more in stock, especially since it's officially the holiday season for retailers right now.

When I went this morning to buy that 360, there was 2 in the case. While I was checking out, the district mgr went out of his way to inform me of the sale, and try to hook me up, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't go out of their way to make up stuff about the 5 units being available for the $100gc promo.

I'm honestly kind of excited about the possible $898 sharp 52". It's actually not a bad TV at all, especially for the price. Check out the item number on walmart.com. 120hz, 4 hdmi, wide angle. Just the basics, but still likely a pretty damned good deal.

I wouldn't pay over $600 for an LCD TV. Much rather go with a Plasma. I just bought a 32" LCD HDTV by LG for $420 (after tax) at Best Buy and it looks great, but the blacks are no where near that of the now deeply discounted Plasmas. Too bad there aren't any plasmas for under $500 bucks.

The blacks on Sharps are actually supposed to be pretty good. I realize the downside of most LCDs vs Plasma is black levels, but, for the most part, I can live with it. I just generally tend to prefer the efficiency of the LCDs more. Not that it matters all that much, I'm sure.

No TVs are perfect---you're always going to have trade-offs between the different techs.

Anyway, back to the 360---given the trade-in value for my old one (and the curretn $25 bonus, I'm all about getting an HDMI Jasper to replace the RRoD'd system that MS gave back to me. Do not trust...although the sticker on the back looks suspiciously different, even if the S/N matches my old one.

Very true about the tradeoffs. No TV tech right now is perfect. I have a DLP upstairs and an LCD downstairs. I just wish I would have gotten an HD CRT a few years back, as the ONLY downside to those were the size and weight, which I can live with on the smaller TVs.

If you can score one of these, it is a great deal. I don't know how that can compare to the MW2 bundle though.

The big factor here is if your brother sees a huge difference between a 250 gb HD (damn that is huge) or a 20-60 gb HD. To me, I might download a few games, but for the most part I am going to be playing online and just storing game saves and updates. A 60gb HD might be overkill for me, and 20 gbs should be pretty decent.

Otherwise, you should be able to score the game, maybe a used 60 gb hd or a 60 GB Starter Pack, and an extra controller and still manage to come out even or damn close. I would go the used route, and then get a year of LIVE Gold and an extra controller. You can even get the 60 GB Starter pack used... and if he doesnt have a HDMI cable(s), boom, you just bested the package again.

It's that 250gb HD that is the biggest difference.

I used to work for Netflix and you can use stream without a HD, but you need to have a memory card. You have to download some data from live, and you will need a gold account once you have it to stream.

11-03-2009, 04:35 PM
Keep in mind that gift cards have "serial numbers" as well, so if you try to buy a 2nd console with the original gift card, the old gift card (tied to the original receipt) will be used, and you can't return it anymore. They'll have to scratch off the back to the see the security code which will pretty much make it non-returnable.

YMMV, but seriously, don't do it.

But the new Jasper 360s have onboard memory. I think its like 512 but 300 mb is available to the player. That is more then enough.

With MW2 coming out, I either need to purchase a new drive for my launch now or take the risk by trying to get this deal.

It really depends on who you get at Customer Service on that Saturday. I would assume that would work (they may even give it to you, return it then repurchase it right there). All I can say is to be polite and friendly. Just say that to be honest, you could return it and rebuy one over in electronics right now. I work at Guest Service at my Target store and formerly at a Wal-Mart; all I can say is, if you're nice to me, I can make it a quick and simple return to your advantage.

Yep, the exact reason why these deals happen so very rarely at retail.

There are deals around this time every year like this, and a few other times during the year. Wal-Mart, etc. aren't stupid, and a little fraud here and there isn't going to stop them from the 99.9% of sales that are normal sales. Its already a loss leader by design, so they intend to lose money (unless they cut a deal with MS). Let's not overstate things.

Well, I can't imagine that they would deny me a price match from the store. I can just say I bought it, and then saw the sale in the ad.

Well, this ad won't be coming out THE MORNING OF, from what I understand. So hold your horses, find the ad, bring it to Best Buy, and see what they say. If they say no deal, say, "you just lost my purchase".

With your current plan, you should be able to buy it at any time before Friday and try and get the GC. So there isn't a HUGE rush.

I can't imagine having a doorbuster deal and NOT having the ad before the day of. It would be sheer madness, but retailers have done dumber things and considering it is THIS Friday, and I don't know of any big "let's buy a newspaper for the ads" days besides Sunday, I am not 100% sure.

If anything, you can ask a Best Buy customer service rep if the deal happens if they will pricematch, and just grab an ad the day of and walk over to Best Buy.

Thing is, I need a hard drive for my 360. I'd be okay with a 60GB, but 20 may be a bit too small. What's the best way for me to go about it?

Buy Arcade from WM, get $100GC and use that to buy the 60gb live pack- this essentially gives me a 360 Pro but for $50 less than I paid at BB

Buy Arcade from WM, buy 120GB HDD for $50 (after GC)- this gives me free 60GB upgrade to HDD capacity, no savings over what I paid at BB

Any other ways I could do it?

Best Buy price matched a GC with Halo 3 ODST from Toysrus, so they should with this. The only thing is with a discount of this size, BBY will probably call up the store and see if they have any left in stock to honor the deal. With such a low price, the quantities won't last long. This is also YMMV as your store might even say they won't do it at all.

I will probably pick one up. My cousin has always wanted a 360 so I will probably sell this to him.

Not sure about that but not to be mean, but you may need to stick with other systems. 6 xbox 360s man that's some kind of bad luck.

That 250gb hard drive is worth the arcade console by itself.

I called my local Best Buy, and they said they do not price match anything but the price of the device. So if another store had a deal with a system + a free game, or in this case a gift card, they would not match it.

If Cheapy says he confirmed it, then it's confirmed.

Not to mention the wally world employee saying he heard the same thing today at work...

I would love to have a backup seeing as how I have an extra 20gb HDD and my console is currently at MS getting fixed. I told my sister and she's getting her son one. He's gonna flip on Christmas this year.

Don't know if want. I need a backup, though, in case this one for some reason can't connect to LIVE anymore.

Just stopped by wal-mart. I didn't even see a spot for the Arcade model in the Xbox case. All they had were stickers for the elite and the pro models and both were sold out. I guess that I will have to do some hunting on Saturday when this deal goes live.

They'll be pallets on the floor come Saturday. No sense in stocking something that's going to fly off of the shelves.

There's a $20 gift card on MW2 at Wally World.

That's how it works out.

For me it works like this: Arcade @Walmart = $200-100 = 100

CoDMW2 @GS = 80(hardened) - $95 tradein on old 360 = $15 to put on SCC. :D

It sucks that I may not be able to pick this up due to SATs and college classes. I decided that taking them was efficient for me to transfer into another college. Great choice on my part, lol.

If anyone can confirm or deny the possibility of purchasing now and coming back Saturday afternoon to PM with the gift card?

I've seen multiple people quote $95 for a 360 at GS. What model is that? I just got a quote of $75 for my 60GB HDMI 360. If I could get ~$100 for it I'd probably just trade it and buy a new one (I bought this one used and would rather a brand new one).

(and really hoping Amazon will jump on this too)

The 360 core unit is $70 w/wireless controller. Add on the $25 hardware tradein bonus that runs through sunday, and you have $95.

ok... here in my city, ads on the local newspaper are very popular. I have sold tons of stuff locally, and it's very easy and quick. All the sales are locally, so I don't have to pay shipping, PayPal, etc... plus, a regular ad would be something like $10 for one week.

Would it be a good business to buy, let's say, a couple of Arcades, then sell each one for $190, tax-free and keep the Gift Cards to myself? If I sell both systems, I could go and buy another couple... and so on...

What do you think?

Oh believe me, I have skills... I'm a graphic designer, and I do publicity, but the company I was working for, just went out of business.

I have been not working since like a month ago, and I can't find any job right now.

What all is required when trading in a system at GS. I have a non-hdmi, powerbrick, av cables, and wireless controller. Do I need a HDD, headset, or anything else?

The system is just so damn loud and would not mind getting a newer system.

What do you think? You just ask people on cheapassgamer on where to invest your money?

I was leaning towards buying ONE and selling it on craigslist to keep the gift card. The more I think about it I want to buy it and keep the arcade though. Because if I buy and sell for the gift card I'll still be paying $20-$30 for the $100 gift card.

So I have to decide if I'd rather pay $210 for an arcade and the gift card, sparing the hassle of craigslist stupidity....

Also, I don't support buying and reselling, especially if you're buying more then one. You need money? Go find a job or develop some real skills. If you can't make it in this world, then you aren't cut out for it. Heard of "survival of the fittest"? Buying and reselling for gift cards isn't going to give you a load of money and it's not going to save you. Only the strong survive.

-SMITTYBLAZE
Oh yea, I'm back!
WTF is this post. Contemplating reselling, condemning those who do, and then comparing it all to Darwin? Are you saying you are not the fittest? Should you go find a job? What if someone can make it in this world as a reseller? Possibly the silliest post I have ever seen.

I just ran down to my Walmart and bought it. Came to like $212.

I'll go in after my Accounting class and see if they will PM it with the gift card. Unless I get a manager I don't know or a Nazi of a worker, I seem them allowing me to return/rebuy it. If not, whatever, not a big loss. I'll just have to cut a few days off my intended MW2 time.

Taken from SlickDeals:

Called 3 different Walmarts in my area and got the same answer.

They said that you can return rebuy an item if it is sealed. I asked about the gift card and they said the same. I did not think to ask of specific doorbuster deals, but my guess is that will be the YMMV part. I would not think any company would want to promote that.

Personally, I just wanted to know in general, because then there is a greater chance of it working simply because (as stated before) most Walmart employees seem not to care.

I think I will just go ahead and buy one today, and go to the store and try to get one that way too. After I get one, then drop it in the car and try to return/rebuy. If it doesn't work, I will just return.

I want to get one for my school, so I can use it as a reward for kids to come in and play at lunch.

Thanks. The guy on the phone quoted $60 for the 360 and another $15 for the hard drive, no mention of bonus/coupon though. Maybe he just misquoted and meant $70. I just looked at the details and it says not good on cash trade-ins. Gamestop credit is useless to me, so I'll have to pass on that deal.
