Must be some seriously "over-the-edge" cops in Washington.

"After three hours in jail, the mother of two from Bowie, Md., paid $10 to be released."

These are very strange arrests:

"In 2000, a 12 year-old girl was arrested for eating a french fry on a subway platform. In 2002, a wheelchair-bound rider was ticketed for using profanity when he could not find a working elevator to exit the system. In September, an officer forced a pregnant woman to the ground, saying she was talking too loudly on a cellular telephone."

This makes me want to go to Maryland and just start beating the shit out of transit officers.

My brother said that eating in those transits were illegal, but that is kind of retarted to arrest someone for that...

For all the shit cops put up with, it is Ludicrous. However, I think certain Pds need leeway to beat people. That's just me though.

that is just too much when they force a pregnant woman to the ground for talking to loud on a cell phone. i hope she sued them for endangering her unborn child's life.

Yeah. Seriously, you never wanna get an attitude with a cop. Whether you think you're in the right or wrong. Even if they still try to arrest you and you're right, just be patient and wait for someone more sensible (sheriff, judge) to let you go.

That 12yr old was probably being a snotty little brat and deserved to get smacked because all the cops i've known have been cool to kids.

About the pregnant lady, there is a difference between enforcing the law through reasonable force and being an aholio. Ticketing someone for breaking a petty law is good - but forcing a pregnant woman to the ground?! What the hell kind of threat does she pose? That's a bit strong.

I agree that there are people who need this treatment because they are a threat and endager others, innocents and police alike. But a pregnant woman on a cell phone? please.

she may have deserved to get a fine or even arrested, but she didn't need to be forced to the ground unless she was trying to fight them off or something in which case they would have had to do it for safety reasons and all.

I ride metro weekly, the rules are NOT posted everywhere. You dont see a sign until AFTER you get on the train, well after the turnstyles.

She shouldn't have mouthed off, but jail is not the answer - a $500 fine would have handled the situation quite fairly.

I'm assuming you don't know much about DC, but you don't want to be in lockup as part of the "candybar caper"

I was speeding (70 in a 50) just outside of DC, and the cop who caught me told me he would have hauled me in DC jail had he caught me inside the District. For speeding.

This is the tip of the iceburg, all police in DC now have unprecedented power because of this country's hysteria. But at least the metros are clean and profanity-free (just like when Mussolini ran things)
