ok cheapy heres something i thought of, obviously you have the review board, but say you had 4-5 people write reviews for the site? i respect the opinions of most everyone on this board and find this community to be pretty well versed in gaming, in addition to giving me something more to read, you could prolly get you reviews linked to at gamerankings...free links ^^

that would be good (espcially if i could be one of them) but it would be hard for all four to get almost every new release to review. its nice but could be hard for the reviewers to afford the games or the time to play them

We shouldn't make a big deal about reviews. If you want to share your opinion of a game fine, but let's leave it at that.

Whooo hooo. I can see it now... the review boards with fall into a Highlander style competition for a while.
I think everyone would have a hard time sorting out the 4-5 people they'd want to be kept men and women.
I'd figure you'd want one or two uber nitpicky micromanager style reviewers, 2-4 general reviewers, and 1-2 more comedic type reviewers.
I would think that there's a fairly short list of people that appear active enough to consider: (basically the top ten, not counting CheapyD)

Each of these people has a distinct voice, and can write well enough that thier reviews wouldn't be a chore to read.
(It's Cheapy D's site, so he could post whatever he wants... but I wouldn't think he'd want any more tossed onto his already full plate.)
Of course, I seems like it would be a very dangerous idea... it could create some infighting.

Damnit...need to post more (somehow...).
I dont mind the review idea...but we give our opnions anyways. Also, its not like we get all of our games before release...or the day of...or the month of...Basically we wait until the next generation of machines or when it goes to $5, whichever comes first. And hell, if you want to post a review, go right ahead. Nothing semi-professional or anything, but the kind you'd find at gamefaqs (except in english)

thats like what im doing with my review thread. if people want reviews, i post them. if i want to write a review, i post it.

I wouldn't mind doing it if asked. Hell, I've got a huge backlog of unplayed/unfinished games and it'd give me some motivation to try to play through them if it suddenly became my "review pile."
However, if something like this does get started, I think there should be a clear review format established. Let the "essay" part of the review be free-form and distinct to the reviewer, but make the "Bottom Line" something where everyone uses the same categories for numerical ratings. You know, similar to the reviews at IGNorant, LameSpot, etc. Consistency is the key.

Let me just make it clear that I'd LOVE to do this...as long as I'm provided with the games I'm reviewing, of course. :D

This is a great idea, but it would take some hard thinking to figure out the reviewers. Poll anyone?
How about this to choose reviewers: you post on the review board as usual. If you'd want it to be in the running to have it become an "official CAG review" you'd just put a poll at the top with "accept" and "decline" as the options. If enough people would give you accept votes you'd be submitted to a higher up (CheapyD or someone he trusted to give an editorial position to, a "Review Czar, if you will) for final judgment and stamp of approval. That way there'd be no designated reviewers, allowing everyone to get equal consideration, and people in the gallery here would be able to post messages like "you've got a misspelling here or grammatical mistake there, correct those and you've got my accept vote."

How about we just post our opinions like we always have?
I don't see a point to this. Eventually, reviewing becomes a chore and the reviewer will half-ass it. If you want to know a game, just ask and people that feel strongly enough about a game will reply and give their input.
