I heard some horror stories about working their. I just went in their to pick up a used copy of Magic the Gathering on Xbox, for some live play. I was then offered by the manager(i known for probably about 3 years, first name basis type thing. He ask what my hours at toys r us is and what position do I work their, then I told him, and ask if I was interested in the job for some extra hours. He said he would work around my Toys R Us work schedule, so Im like cool. I filled out the app when their, and he said you got the job. I heard it was fairly hard to get a job their, but man I dident even have to try, he said it just fail into your lap today. so I can keep my 35 hour/week job at Toys r us, and have a part time job at Gamestop. What are all your work exsperiences at Gamestop? Hopefully I dident sign a death wish.

And what are the PRO's of working their and the cons?(discount, used games take home stuff)

Eh, it's not necessarily a deathwish. I heard from the employees at my local Gamestop that it's a pretty cool job, but some CAGers may say otherwise.

Although it's fishy that he just threw the job at you. He must have lost an unhappy employee and needed someone to fill in.

Nice new avatar, Moxio.

You didn't sign a deathwish. A job is a job and money is money. Doesn't matter how you get it. I'm not sure of the discount, but I think it's 10%. Congrats on the new job.

^_^

I'm the same way as you. I work for the other toy store and working at EB Games at the moment. Just came in and asked a question about Growlanser and got offered a job instead. I filled out the application and got hired without going through an interview.

If I don't have school and all, I could probably handle it. However, with being a full time student and working part time at both job, I'm already drained from the first week of school. I have no idea how I'm holding this up and why I still have 2 part-time jobs and going to school. It's crazy, but I learn how to do time management and when to know when to get enough sleep before I go crazy. To be honest, I don't know if you sign a death wish, but it's worth a try anyway.

Well.......your case may be different, but allow me to tell you of some of the possible dangers:
1. Shit Hours. Your schedule is not only based on saled, but also on a set of totally arbitrary rules. If you're not working full time; expect weeks where you will only work about 3 hours.
2. Stupid fucking people. It's a retail position, true, but it's a retail position involving a certain clientelle who can sometimes be denser than usual.
3. The discount keeps getting smaller. Down to 15% when I left from 30%. They want you to increase your quotas, but punish you int hat respect.
4.The dubass quotas. You'll see in due time.
5. Your mixing a job with your favorite hobby. Prepare to play less games. You'll get sick of it real fast.
It's late and I'm tird, so if I think of anything else I'll let you know. All I can say is good luck man, and I hope it works out for you. Just don't be surprised when it doesn't.

Id have to disagree with getting sick of it. I worked at best buy the last year and the one thing that kept me going was my love for games. I worked in the media department but i knew most about games so i was zoned there everytime for a year with very few exceptions. Its fun talking about games to people and getting paid for it.
Also I had 2 jobs and would played a sport in school so dont think you have it so bad panda...i got very little sleep cuz after school i had practice then i worked til 10 then i spent time with my gf. Trust me though if you cant find time to do your school work then quit a job it wont kill you.

When it was Software Etc., I was assistant manager for two years, then became manager for another two years. I loved it. The discounts were great, the checkout policy was excellent, and talking to people about games all day was a blast. Then I found a better opportunity and left for 6 years.

Gamestop then talked me into coming back as a manager, and I left after 6 weeks. I simply could not stand it anymore. I hated the hard sell of the damn reservations and that damn discount card. All of a sudden, I wasn't talking to people all day about games.

Instead, I was frikkin' worrying if my crew was cramming enough reservations down people's throats. Processing suitcases full of buy-backs all the while ignoring the customers actually BUYING stuff. And then dealing with my district manager who's wondering why my sales aren't up. "BECAUSE YOU KEEP CUTTING MY CREW'S HOURS SO NOW I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO GET ANYTHING DONE THAT'S WHY BITCH!!!"

AAARGH! Whew! Sorry. Umm...Good luck. Hope you have fun.

i work at gamestop right now and i love it there. i have a really cool manager which may be why i like it there so much, but i have my 15% discount on all but new consoles, we can check out games as long as there is a good inventory & we have to bring it back the same way we checked it out (or else we have to buy it). the more you work there the better hours you would get. the main problems at mine is my annoying DM and the stupid little kids in there constantly bothering you even when you are helping other customers,it is like you are baby sitting them pretty much since at least half the time their parents aren't in there with them. and finally if you have a really unorganized store,if they usually don't keep it straight, once it is time for inventory someone will have to straighten up the place (such as putting the games in a,b,c order) like i was doing with the used ps2 section tonight at my store, even though i am not done with it still after working on it for like almost 3 hours. i just hope no one screws it up after i am done with it tomorrow morning. most of the time it is a great job if you have a cool manager i am guessing.

I just applied to a local Gamestop since they're looking for someone to work hours that I have open, nights and weekends. I'm hoping I get it since I need some extra money, and getting a discount would be nice, as well. Good luck.

Any time. No respect for GS employees since they're jerks here and competition to boot.

Congrats none the less.

besides what inuyasha explained....you just have to get along with your co workers...they can make you forget about that dumb customer or misplacement of a used PS2 case. well thats if they are good company and friendly and good for laughs i hope.. Manager also helps if he is not obviously a hard ass.

i take it you work at somewhere like eb or something. you know not all employee's at GS are jerks, same goes for EB. it all depends on who you talk to whether they are jerks or not.
