I should post a trailer one of these days...

Still need to get used to the combos and large array of moves available but so far so damn good ya know? I like feeling like I am instantly rewarded for doing good instead of feeling like it occurs after the battle.

First stage looks and feels chaotic but you can get through it and see it's more 'normal' side in the next stage.

I hope we get the LE version in the states.:bouncy:

So basically that "Sign up for a Sega Pass to get the demo" was unnecessary BS.

I played the demo last night and was really surprised; it feels like a really solid title and I will probably pick it up when it hits $30 or so.

That's fucking terrible. Sega should be ashamed of themselves. If I worked at Platinum games I'd be throwing a fit. How is limiting a demo to 40,000 people a good idea? Don't they want this game to be a hit on par with the Devil May Cry series? Just release the damn demo and start the NA/EU hype train already.

Anyway, for the people who didn't get in, sorry. I didn't know it was like this exactly.

By limiting the demo to the people who "really want it," they increase the odds that the people who play it will spread positive impressions, and limiting negative opinions. I assume the demo's going to be available to everyone eventually anyway, so they may as well get the hype train started right.

Is this the same demo that could be downloaded from the Japanese marketplace? If so, play the levels the other way round. I didn't have a clue what was going on in the first one, but the second makes a lot more sense.

Overall, there was some fun to be had from this game.

there is a rhythm with which to press attack buttons that adds variety, but if u wanna mash your way to victory the game is difficult enough to allow you to succeed that way using the same combo over and over again.

ultimately the game has the depth to make of it how the player chooses to do so.

That's good to hear about the depth. Game design today needs to satisfy casual play (mashing lol) but if it also allows hardcore skills to shine then i will definitely be a big fan.

Capcom's Dungeons & Dragons II was a great beat'em'up that wasn't a masher IMO. I would love to see a sequel or new IP that is similar but updated to todays standards.

I love beatemups and always wanted to help design one myself. A couple OG street fighter friends worked on God of War and that pretty much changed the genre. Bayonetta getting a perfect score in a couple magazines is no joke! Here's to hoping beatemups gain even more momentum :applause:

How do they reference them?some music is inspired from older sega games,

during story segments, the characters make a lot of references to older Kamiya, Platinum Games, and Sega games,

some of bayonetta's moves are taken from Okami/DMC/VJ,

lastly some stages are either inspired or directly a rip off of certain sega games.

I'm having a BLAST with this. I had my doubts because I can never bring myself to finish games like DMC4 and NG2, but so far I'm really digging the combat and over-the-top feel of this game. It's so ridiculous yet addictive at the same time.

This Game really couldn't have come at a better time for me. I used to be a big DMC fan but after DMC4 I think I'm about done with the series. I hated the whole MGS2 thing they did with it & playing all the levels of the game twice didn't sit well to me. I Hope

the game is challenging, but not unfairly so. every time i've died or gotten hit its because i was not fast enough. enemies broadcast their attacks pretty well, which brings a nice balance of fairness and challenge. what a great way to start off 2010; i couldn't be more happy with this game.

Bayonetta is great! I am having a blast with it and it really does remind me of why I love video games. The game doesn't take itself seriously and is just simply a blast to play. Are you using items? They really drag down your rating.

I was pretty bad at first but once I started doing the Alfheims I got used to the combat quickly. They're actually great for learning enemy animations and knowing when to dodge. After doing several of these going back to the real game got much easier and more fun.

The dood at the grave is named Eggman

The bonus stage often begins with Splash Wave music
Rodin asks "What are ya buyin"
Rodin makes a Madworld reference to Jack's chainsaw arm
Luka mentions Claire, Trish, Silvia, and Ammy
Bayo says "dancin a go go baby"
Highway Stage, first part of the stage has Splash Wave remix, second part Afterburner remix
second part of that stage seems to be an homage to Hang On
there's also a Space Harrier/After Burner stage, with Space Harrier remix and all the sound effects
She has a Stinger like move, a Viewtiful Joe red hot kick, and leaves a trail of flowers in panther mode

Fail.

Do you realize all of the calculated shit you have to do to pull off either of these (especially the farming)? If you play the game normally, you would NEVER encounter either of these. Most games have exploits if you seek them out.

I have to agree with the previous post. There's no way of doing this 'farming' without going way out of your path, and getting lucky as even some of the requirements to get to the 'farming' are ridiculously expensive.

If there's one complain is that it would take too long to unlock all her weapons, and moves. After I finish the game I have no desire to go back just to finish getting all the extra stuff, so in that regard it's a shame that they're so expensive.

Really like the game, although I'm also not a fan of 'watch this really long scene, but be prepared 'cause if you don't hit button z at the correct time you will die' routine. That's just a cheap trick that developers shouldn't do anymore.

I've heard of hidden verses that you find by backtracking, and I've also heard that some of them are the Alfheim portals. Read that on Gamefaqs though, so it could be complete hearsay.

Anyways, just my quick 2 cents on the game: I think it's extremely awesome. The campy atmosphere is a really nice change of pace from all the "mature" and "gritty" games as of late.

Those are Alfhiem portals. Most do require backtracking, or just more exploration of an area. You don't need those medals to get a better trophy at the end, you just need to use less items and get a good combo/score.

I finally started playing over the weekend.

omg no loading!!!

makes playing 360 version waaaaaay better than PS3!!!

anyway, tryin to get all platinum verses... not going so well :(

Im getting platinum on the stages overall, but small things keep getting me gold medals on individual verses

I needa learn the combo system better... I donno how I keep hitting consistent 9.9 multipliers during large group fights but keep getting gold/silver combo scores

Time and damage will also lower what type of award you get for the verse/chapter.

That looks awesome. However, I collect game guides, and I can tell you that no amount of text  or pretty pictures will make me play Bayonetta like that video.
It would require paying a lot of attention to detail during every single battle. I just wouldn't care enough to get there.

Oh, and I have to agree with the general sentiment on the vast amount of difference between 'easy' and 'normal'. After finishing the game on 'easy', I tried a couple of chapters in 'normal', and it feels like you're playing a different game.

I don't remember the last time there was such a huge difference between difficulties in a game like this. Playing on easy basically let's you experience the ridiculous over the top story, but it does nothing to prepare you for a real run on 'normal'.

Beat this last night. Amazing game. I beat all the Alfheims so if anyone needs advice. I only had problems with a couple of them. For the most part I was able to beat them no problem.

Same with the differences between Normal and Hard. Grace/Glory, the enemy type I have the hardest time with, are suddenly everywhere in Hard mode.

I started this game the other day and I've mostly been buying techniques but don't like any of the ones I have left to buy currently so next I plan to buy an accessory. Do you guys have any recommendations on first accessory buys? I finally realized sword=win so the game is a bit easier now :)

buy all the techniques. trust me. If you have any questions on them let me know.

as for accessories, Moon of Mala Kala or whatever it's called is the best one!!

it allows you to parry, and if timed right you get an extended witch time that doesnt expire from inactivity unlike regular witch time.

If you're good at the game, get Gaze of Despair. It puts you in permanent taunt mode, meaning enemies are more aggressive and tougher to attack but you get more combo points. Pretty much free platinum combo scores in each verse.

If you are bad at the game, get the accessory that puts you in witch time when you get hit at the expense of your magic meter.

and yeay Sword is real good, but too powerful and low combo scores for me >_<

I still use it in certain situations (like Alfheim gates) but when I need damage I jus use charged lightning durga.

Yeah, I'm a baddie at this game so I got the witch time accessory, for when an enemy hits you.

I ended up buying this and also the technique for giving you witch time if you missed the evade by a split second. Next I might save up for the durga weapon.

And you won't, even after you finish it. Enjoy the pretty graphics and the cool combat. Shut down your brain during the story parts.

Beat it on normal yesterday and i was pleased with the overall experience. The story was complete nonsense but the combat, craziness and numerous old school Sega nods, all kept me coming back.

Any suggestions on what to equip during Hard mode?

You're probably long past needing this, but I used katana/kilgore on legs on one set, and double lightning kulshedra on the other set. Killed everything easily just by charging the weapons, cept glorious/gracious. Those are easiest if you have the accessory to parry, to me.

ya for a singleplayer game it's as badass as that commercial makes it out to be. love the huge bosses(reminds me of sonic and i guess some those sega shooters) and arcade fighter style combat!

i'll give hard mode a try later on but im onto inferno now.

btw i pretty much just used the sword the whole time and only really used that bat damage and dash techs. :)

Beat the game this weekend. Had a lot of fun with it. I played on Easy, mainly because I wanted to use all the moves and not worry about trying to find the best techniques. I didn't mind the ridiculous fighting and story elements, but the basic storyline really didn't make much sense.

It's sorta crazy how many enemy types there are. Really suprised about how much work they put into the ending credits.

lol the little girl calls bayonetta mummy while calling that one guy father. that guy tells bayonetta to call him father!!!

i have no idea if this little girl is bayonetta or not because at times they make it seem that way UNTIL they show both in the past!

From what I gathered, the kid is Bayonetta, even in the past. The sinner or whatever was actually her mom, who had a kid with that angel person. I think.

It's amongst my favorite games tbh. It's a little too over the top for some. Get to the part where you fight Joy and tell me that isn't disturbing =P
