In another thread, I asked some questions about my fellow CAGers' trips to Flea Markets. Yes we've all heard and read stories about them, and I just love to hear about them. They are like mini-Horatio Alger stories. So please post them for my enjoyment. I'm going to head out to a flea market or two once I find out where I can find one. Please, please post your stories about finding video game gems and finds.

MY best find ever was one time when I saw a box of 100 or so Atari 2600 games in a crappy cardboard box. I asked the guy how much he wanted for each game because there were only a few I was really interested in, but he told me his wife just wants them out of the house and would give me the whole box for 2 dollars. I think I had more enjoyment from those games than most next gen games I play today. Not only that, I now have like 6 friggen copies of COMBAT.

There's a flea market weekly a few miles from my house. Not too many great video game deals because for the most part they are overcharging. The best gaming deals I've picked up where Super Metroid for $6 (cart only) and Street Fighter 2 Turbo for $3 (cart only).
However, there's a couple of brothers that sell DVD's. They have nearly every new release DVD for $10 (new) and sometimes even have movies that don't come out until later in the week. I've saved a ton of money over the past year buying from them.

In Northern Jersey, there is the "Dover Flea Market" in...uh...Dover. It doesn't have great deals on video games, but CDs are always easy to find there cheap.

The one here in Saint Petersburg, FL is damn good.
Just picked up Deception 1 and 2 for Playstation today, and next week the guy told me he's going to have a toploading NES, two dogbone controllers, and all the hookups for 65 bucks
I think I may be calling him before the flea market to take that off of his hands :D

I just came back from my first flea market in years. I'm up here in Boston, so I took a 45 min drive to arguably the largest flea market in the area. It sucked. There wasn't anything of value in the whole place. Everything was over-priced and not worth the drive. I could have gotten better prices at a mall. I'm still searching for that mythical flea market where there are actually deals and steals.

i remember going to my first flea market in this area...it was scary as hell, weird people all around, i was afraid i was gonna get mugged. anyway i worked up the courage to actually check it out and get it over with since it was a bit of a drive. i went inside and it looked quite a lot like a prison, basically people were selling items in these cages that looked like prison cells, with items out every where in the hallways too.
saw a bunch of...shall v say interesting things, such as a 'game box' it looked like an xbox only different colors and stuff, what looked like a famicon system...only not, and a whole mess of things that i cant really describe.
after a few rounds i quickly made my way out. overall it was an...interesting experience, maybe ill check out the other flee market this guy told me about which as he says is not as shabby.

I only know of the one flea market in Knoxville, and unless things have changed quite a bit in the last several years (it is possible) it does not qualify as good (I am assuming you know the same one, or you probably wouldn't have added the "GOOD" qualifier).

Any flea markets in Western Washington?
Is there a flea market inside the Pike Place Market? I know it's something I should know living in WA, just I don't go to outside cities much other that Everett (I live in Mukilteo).

there is an awesome flea market in des moines, Washington. it is on 240th and pacific highway, just off of I-5, exit 149. i get so many good deals at this flea market, i bought an xbox from someone for $110 with two controllers. the flea market is where the old "Midway Drive In" was located, the sign is still there, you should check it out, its open on weekends and major holidays

If you really want to score at flea markets you have to go every week. Ive built a massive collection over the past 5 years going almost every Sunday. One of my best finds was a Colecovision system. I see the system box underneath this guys table so i ask him how much. He says $5 so i go down to open the box and take a look inside. So i go to open one side...Sealed, then i go to open the other side...SEALED! . So i got a factory sealed original Colecovision for $5. It was really nice but i decided i would rather have the money i knew it would go for. So i put it up on Ebay, Final bid price $530!

Wow, great find with the Coleco and the big payoff...how did you know if the guy selling it didn't just glue the flaps to give the appearance of it being brand new?...but then again you did get it for 5 bucks.

I could definitely tell that it was legit. The corners of the flaps were pealed up a bit in places and you could see that the seal was original.

I used to go to this flea market all the time when I lived in the Seattle area. When my family is over there visiting my parents, we'll always go check it out. Last August I picked up SNES Space Megaforce for $6 and a complete NES system for $5.

I had a few good finds at the Farmer's Market in Wilmington, DE last weekend.
One vendor was offering "Buy 1, Get 1 at 1/2 price" for all used games so I got cart only copies of Unchartered Waters: New Horizons (SNES, $9) and Aerobiz (SNES, $4 after discount). This was the same vendor I managed to get a nearly complete copy of Pirates Gold (Gen) for $8 earlier this summer. It was only missing the box (contained the booklet and map).
Another vendor offered to sell me all 16 of his Saturn games for $50. Most of them were crap, but I shot back a counter offer of any 2 for $5 and came away with mint/complete copies of Ghen War and Scorcher for $2.50 each.
One vendor had a copy of Fire 'N Ice (NES) but was asking an amazing $30 for it. Needless to say I passed.
Overall, a fun jaunt to the local flea market.

You really pulled the wool over him...2 for $5 would've only been $40 for the lot, and he probably only offered you that to get rid of the whole lot.
Congratulations, you're a flea market mathlete champion! :applause:

This was over a year ago, and I don't remember this, or remember finding this awesome deal on a top loader. Must have been some bizarro flea market.

The Rose Bowl in Pasadena has one. It's held one Sunday out of the month. Don't know how good it is, never been there.

That's the one I go to, when I can. It tends to be hit-or-miss... some days I find nothing, some days I find treasure. My best so far I got these things:
Tetris, cart only
Mario 3, cart only
Sonic CD, complete
Sega CD Memory cart, complete
Klonoa 2, complete
Mister Mosquito, complete
Spyro the Dragon plush w/ tag (that my rabbit promptly ate :bomb: )
Asian-style hairbrush kit
I think I paid $30, $40 for everything.
I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a booth in the back right-hand corner of a buliding on site that sold game things. They weren't amazingly cheap, but they weren't too pricey- I paid $20 for a Secret of Mana cart- and they actually let you return a game the following weekend if it didn't work. Nice guys, and they often had good stuff (I got FF2 from them too, I think it was 15 or 17 dollars.)

The flea market I go to is pretty decent. They have an entire booth downstairs filled with videogames. Not the best prices, but not too bad either. I bought my SNES there for $35. I know it's not the best price, but every place I checked around here didn't have any. It was extremely clean and came with all of the hookups. They also had a NES in it's original box too, although it didn't have the zapper. There NES games are about $5 a piece and there N64 games are around $10. I'm gonna start checking it weekly as it is opened every day until 6.
