"Fricken A" is the worst. my sister likes it
its a country/pop band. and i hate both

I will not post the real worst band IMO as it would get me flamed heavily I assume. Only a couple people have ever agreed with it.
Where's the "all of the above suck the same amount and are all equally terrible?" Since that wasn't an option, I voted for Creed.

unsane............what do you think the worst band is?
Mafia
10-10-2004, 10:31 PM
Never heard of Shuvel, but all of the others suck. Creed woulda been fine if that "Can you take me higher" song was about him actually getting stoned, since that formula has worked for years. All of the others sound like they haven't gotten out of high school yet, and wouldn't have appealed to me even before I got out. And outside of Good Charlotte, they all sound exactly the same to me. Luckily there are enough radio stations around here with enough sense not to play that kinda shit.

Should have been an "all the above" choice...

Hard to decide between Simple Plan and Creed, I chose Simple Plan cause they're still around and still annoy me, unlike Creed which is thankfully over.

I'd say creed sucks the most mailny due to thier popularity, meaning they got played on all the radio stations for way to long.

Pantera fans aren't good to mess around with... The're the kind of people who do school shootings. So keep your hatred to yourself

Dave Matthews Band is one of the most awesome recent bands. (Recent as in within the last 10 yrs or so)
And I dunno how ya'll can hate Creed so much compared to the other listed bands. I loved Creed, I still do. Their first album was the best though.
But, I voted for Good Charlotte for worst band ever.

"Yes. Except the Dave Matthews Band doesn't rock."

Maybe some of us DO care about their messages. I don't think they are "pushing" their political messages on the fans. The fans have to like what they are saying! What I meant by them "representing themselves" was that they are not rehashing someone else's ideas in order to make money. I'm pretty sure they don't make much money off of their albums. And you've probably only listened to "Toxicity" haven't you?
I liked Toxicity for a bit but it got boring IMO

and....
"I don't think they are "pushing" their political messages on the fans. The fans have to like what they are saying!"
every single song they write has a political meaning. they are a band with an agenda, to get there message out to the american public, in the easiest form....popular music. they get massive radio and tv airplay. the message they send is spread to fans that have no idea what they are talking about and become affliated with system of a downs beliefs becasue they dont know any better.

Seems like everyone heard Toxicity, but very few listen to their others. They had a cd before Toxicity, and one after. Very good, IMO. And I repeat: IMO!!!

I like that, since you dislike the band, you listened to all three of their cd's. Millions of people have no idea who System of a Down is, and I don't think they got that much radio time. What, two of their songs were played? Doesn't every artist have an agenda? Celebrities use their status to sway the American people everyday on political issues, so why shouldn't System of a Down? Everyone is entitled to their opinion. You hate System of a Down, I on the other hand, do not. I am done bickering. Sorry for taking up so much space on here guys.

True to some extent but Nirvana was genuinely popular before Cobain offed himself. I believe both Nevermind and In Utero went either platinum or multiplatinum well before his death.

Nirvana was huge before his death. At first I didn't get it. I lgot their first album, liked it, but I was never into the grunge scene and I didn't see what so special. I was actually a huge Pearl Jam Fan, and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden actually had Temple of The Dog out at the same time and I thought that was a much better album.
That change one night when I was watching Saturday Night Live. I had never seen Nirvana before. I didn't even know they were on because I caught the show in mid stride after their first set. they probably played one of their "rotation" songs for their first set, I dunno.
Anyway, they came on and it was a total suprise. They played "Rape Me" and right then, it was like a lightbulb that went off and I instantly got it. I literally remember the first time that I heard Nirvana Live. Rape Me wasn't on radio yet. I don't think stations wanted to play it, so it was Nirvana's only shot to get the song out there to a mass audience. It's truly brilliant. They delivered it with such power. Yet the song is both complex and simple in it's meaning at the same times. There's a brutality to it's cords. I think it's their best song, one fo the best songs ever written, on par with imagine by John Lennon. And I remember sitting there watching them play it and it was literally stunning.
Personally, I've always thought "Black" by Pearl Jam was the best song of the decade. "Rape Me" comes as a close second and I would argue it's much more visceral and poweerful. But no one could give a live performance like Nirvana. That was confirmed in their unplugged set which might be the best live performance caught on tape in that decade. Then he killed himself before I ever got the chance to see Nirvana live in person.
In some ways I think people forget how powerful Kurt Cobain and Nirvana was because you can't see them live anymore. It's a shame, but then again, I've always said that if I had to fuck Courtney Love on a regular basis, I'd blow my brains out too.

I can't tell if half of the people badmouthing bands are judging music in terms of their taste or whether or not the muscians are capable.
System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine and Panterra all feature at least one skillful member, from a technical standpoint.
I didn't know SOAD copied someone elses writing for their lyrics, kind of disappointing, even if it is Charles Manson.

Life is but a dream,
Drifting on a stream, a stream,
Consciously it seems,
All of what remains,
Ego brain,
Man made shame,
Shame, Love after it rains,
You see my pain is real,
Watch my world dissolve,
And pretend that none of us see the Fall,
As I turn to sand,
You took me by the hand,
And declared, that love prevails over all.
I am just a man,

For land, for land,

the only band i never saw live that I wish I did was operation ivy, before my time, ive seen rancid but they arent as good as operation ivy in my opinion (3 of the memebers of opiv became rancid)
im pretty sure it was only 2-the singer and bassist
op ivy is ska, rancid is punk. i liked operation ivy alot more than rancid but i only listen to rancid because of the crazy bassline(ala-black lung)
im seriously into all sides of punk----------punk-hardcore-ska-emo--------- and there hasnt been a NEW band in a few years that could fit any of those...........sure they can call themselves what they want, but they wont truly be that at the core. i would take jimmy eat world over some of that emo screamo shit anyday.

Pantera fans aren't good to mess around with... The're the kind of people who do school shootings. So keep your hatred to yourself
I don't like them either.
I love Pantera (one of my top 5 bands of all time) and i've never done a school shooting. Just because someone listens to metal doesn't mean that they are screwed up in the head. Next time, think before posting an idiotic saying like that.

i dont listen too emo for various reasons, i listen too techno, ska, regee, some punk, swing, big band, some heavy metal (basically SOAD)
and I dont listen too rancid because they just seem very basic to me, none of there lyrics really effect me, now opiv had some amazing songs and lyrics if you really listen to them

I think he may have said that in a joking manner. But I found it strange that when the news of the Columbine shooters started to leak out, they were describing me to a tee and maybe other CAG as well. I used to listen to Rage but had my own little boycott of their music after they burned the American flag at one of their shows, I think it might have been at Woodstock. When I was listening to them I really didn't care for their political message and only really listened to it because it sounded good. Musically they were a really talented group and I was a little disappointed when they broke up. AudioSlave really doesn't fill the shoes Rage left behind.

First of all, I love most music and I am very open minded about most forms of music, melody and rhythms. I have played classical guitar since I was 8 years old and I am a serious musician. I know what it takes to be in a band and develop a talent in music. Not everyone can do it, but not everyone can go to the Olympics either. As far as these bands you guys are talking about....none of them suck, but some of them I prefer more that the others. Some have more talented members than the others in my opinion, but none are awful. They can all play their instruments and write songs. Obviously someone is buying and listening to their music because they are all selling CD's, touring, and making money. It's all about taste and what you are into. Here is my opinion:
Good Charlotte: decent band, good guitarist, great drummer, whiney vocals that are kind of generic and typical, a little gimicky, formulated songwriting with unoriginal aspects, will probably be forgotten about within a couple of years. their songs will NOT become classics......but they don't suck. I would not buy their CD's, but I would listen to them if a hot girl put the CD in my CD player.
Simple Plan: Generic sounding, whiney vocals, can play their instruments barely, they don't stand out as being really talented but maybe they will improve, they are unoriginal and I have heard it before done better by someone else...but they don't suck...they just need a few more years of developing, but I doubt they will get the chance to since they will prolly become forgotten within a year or so since pop punk is flooding the market and people are getting tired of it and looking for something different to listen to.
New Found Glory: They sound like 20 other bands out right now with some punk influences, they can play their instruments but are somewhat unoriginal and generic sounding, I have heard their sound before done by other bands before them, nothing special, but not terrible, won't last 2 more years and will be forgotten about within 5. I prefer to listen to Green Day over this band anyday.
Shuvel: Rap Rock is not really my favorite form of music but the drummer in this band rocks, bass player is compitent, I don't care for the vocals at all, I can't listen to this CD for more than 5 minutes without wanting to change it. I doubt this band will last more than one year....but that is only becuase of the lyrics and the vocals. The other band members could prolly join another band with no problem.
Creed: I don't care much for the "Eddie Vedder copycat" vocals, but the singer has some ok moments here and there. The guitarist is great and I doubt any of you will ever in your lifetime be as good as he is even if you start practicing 12 hours a day for the rest of your life. He is just that fricking good and has alot of natural ability that most of you will never have. It would be like trying to be better than an Olympic Gold medalist at their sport, you could practice the rest of your life and never be that good. I have seen him just pick up a guitar and jam by himself in front of a small few people. He is better than he might seem to be on the CD recordings. Pure Raw Talent. The songwriting is good and above your average signed rock band. The drummer is good and has a nice groove and feel to his playing. Bass playing is not bad, but he doesn't stand out as being some great innovative player like Les Claypool. This band will be remembered for a long time and at least one or more of their songs will be played on a classic radio station in 25 years and so on into the future. The new Alter Bridge CD is good and the guitar playing on it is the best part. Mark Tremonti can play the guitar and we will hear more from him in the future.
Story of the Year: great band with alot of energy and one of the best new bands to see live. They put on a great show and as far as pop punk goes, one of the better bands out there in this style. These guys can definitely play and the drummer is freaking amazing. Blink 182's drummer I think is on this guys level of playing. SEE THESE GUYS LIVE! I enjoy their CD. I bought it and I listen to it. Hopefully these guys will have a chance to grow and continue on. They have alot of potential.
System of a Down: Great band, great energy, I really like these guys alot. Great musicians. The vocals are not my favorite, but he has some great moments in some of the songs.
Pantera: Great band, the vocalist in Pantera is one of the most influential vocalists in heavy rock history. His vocals are completely brutal and very few singers have the incredible power that this guy has. This band is already going down in history as I write this as one of the best brutal power rock bands of all time. They will always be remembered.

go listen to the paint it black record that came out last year (titled "cva"). it's straight up punk rock, and it straight up rocks.
anyway, i don't know if these are the worst bands ever, but as far as the "new" bands go, i really dislike the killers, franz ferdinand, taking back sunday, any of the bands on that list (though where the heck did you pull shuvel from, i mean, no one cared about them when they were actually still releasing music), maroon 5, interpol...eh, maybe that was a bad idea. there's a lot of bands that suck now, there's a lot of bands that suck from five years ago, there's a lot of bands that suck from ten years ago, and there's a lot of bands that sucked before that.
the problem is that as time goes by, it becomes easier and easier to record your own music, get a record deal and put out a record. heck, half the time you don't really need a record deal to get your music out there. sometimes it works out well, for instance, as some of you may know, iron & wine has done some really low budget home recording which is ended up being the first record, and that record totally destroys. but the problem is that there are too many kids out there who start bands that are trying to emulate bad bands, which results in (and i think i have said this before) something that ends up being like a bad game of telephone. it's like, if you start a band and you are trying to sound like led zepplin or something, at least you are trying to sound like something good. but if you start a band and are trying to sound like taking back sunday or thursday or incubus or something, then you are effed from the get-go.

Oddly enough I think about half of those bands have at least one song that I like. I liked all those ANFG cover songs from movies, oh I think they did that song "Broken Soung" and a good cover of "Dressed to kill" eons ago though... now they're awful. I really liked "My Sacrifice" by Creed, for whatever reason. Then I like that Good Charlotte song "always" for sentimental reasons, but I just about hate everything else by them, so they win be default.

I am a professional musician. It's what I do for a living. I have a several Million dollar Recording studio in my house with equipment that makes Million plus selling CD's on a regular basis. I play guitar and sing in a kick ass hard rock band. I write, arrange, and produce music every day. It is not a hobby for me. It is who I am and what I do. I have been stalked by fans, begged for autographs, and worshiped by many. I might know a few things about music talent. The Drummer for Blink rocks and Jazz is not as hard as you think to play. I personally know Dave Weckl the greatest living Jazz drummer on earth and even he likes the drummer for Blink. Danny Carey is great, but Neal Peart came before he did and innovated the whole style that influenced Danny Carey. Even Danny himself has stated that in one particular interview from Modern Drummer magazine (I play through a Diezel VH-4 guitar amp which is a $5,000.00 amp the same one Adam Jones from TOOL plays through. You don't see them that often because they are VERY expensive, to most people. I have over $200,000 worth of amps in my collection alone: http://www.diezel.ch/en/products/vh4.php )
When I was comparing the bass player I meant he is just your basic "get the job done" bass player who only plays for the song and does not try to play out in front of the band like Les Claypool. Meaning he is not the focal point of the band but yet he plays what will not take your attention away from the song as a whole. Remember, just because you can blow your load all over the place doesn't make you a great musician. Being tasteful and knowing what to put in the right place is just as important. Maybe the bass player for Creed can rip all over the place, but you would never know it because he is playing simple and tasteful for what the song requires. Steve Howe is a great guitarist and I would only have one use for Britney Spears.

let me point out a few things here:
a) i totally, wholeheartedly believe you sing and play guitar in a "kick ass" hard rock band. well, except maybe for the "kick ass" part.
b)it seems obvious to me that the drummer from blink 182 is a talented, good drummer.
c)being talented and competant does not mean you are a good band. look at the dummer for blink 182 (or the transplants, which are way, way worse).
d)i agree that it is important to know your role in a band, whether it be the lead singer, bass player or rhythm guitarist.
e) "tasteful" and "creed" probably shouldn't go in the same sentence. but then again, i'm not the one in the "kick ass" rock band, so what do i know?

I never used the words "big shot". I was just giving my credentials to show that my statements of opinion on the topic where given by someone educated and experienced in the professional field. You can't just go around saying "this band sucks" or "they are the worst band". Fact is, those bands on the list are signed, they have a record deal and are selling records, people are listening to their music, people are going to their shows and chearing for them, asking them for autographs, supporting what they do, and buying their merchandise. For how long? Some bands longer than others which is always the case. Obviously saying someone is the worst band better be backed up with some serious reasons or it's just some uneducated person's opinion. I just thought it was time to get schooled on the facts. I get my ass kicked every day in Halo by my friends that are not in a band, so don't take it personally. Hopefully we are all good at something...

To some people getting a high score in Ikaruga is more important than being in a rock band, so that statement was just as childish as you are trying to call someone else.

I am NOT in this band, but I recorded and worked on some of the demos that got them signed. Their new band name is City Sleeps. Their new website is going to be Citysleeps.NET
Adriel is the guitarist, one of my best friends, and one of my guitar students.
You will hear about them when their debut CD comes out in Febuary produced by legendary producer John Feldman. They are going to be HUGE! You heard it first here.
That is all I am saying now because I don't care if you know who I am. If you want to know so bad, come to my house and see for yourself like I said before. I am easy to find, everyone knows me around here in Atlanta.

You just aren't making any sense and your run on sentences are worse than a 3rd grader....Hopefully you will get some help and become a useful citizen in the workplace.
and your spelling of "hipocritical" is wrong. Here is the correct dictionary spelling while you are getting schooled:
hyp·o·crit·i·cal
Pronunciation: "hi-p&-'kri-ti-k&l
Function: adjective
: characterized by hypocrisy; also : being a hypocrite
- hyp·o·crit·i·cal·ly /-k(&-)lE/ adverb
Touche you cocksmoker...
...and in case you don't know what that means, here's the definition:
tou·ché
Pronunciation: tü-'shA
Function: interjection
Etymology: French, from past participle of toucher, from Old French tuchier
-- used to acknowledge a hit in fencing or the success or appropriateness of an argument, an accusation, or a witty point
I am sure you already know the definition of "cocksmoker" since you do it everyday....

If you had half a Fu.ck.ing brain you would have read my original post about Creed that says I don't care much for the vocals, so I am not even close to a "Stapp Fanboy". You just are a dumbfu.ck aren't you.?.....Survey says...Yes is the number one answer to this question.

i said it before, so i'll say it again. i don't doubt that you are in a band, i don't doubt that you have nice recording equipment, and i don't doubt that you sing and play guitar and all that fancy stuff. however, i do doubt that you are actually in a "kick ass" band.
throughout your posts, you seem to be equating talent with the ability to write good songs and that bands who can play their instruments well are therefore good bands. well you're wrong. while being a good musician is important, it's not the only thing. you can look at bands that are very competant and talented, yet their songs suck, their music sucks, they suck. likewise (though not as often), you can look at some bands that have members that may be quite up to snuff, yet their songs make up for it. you seem to have lost the important part, which is the music, not the people making it.
smugface sucks, by the way. i'm not talking about their ability as musicians, mind you, i'm just talking about the fact that the music they create is boring and derivitive and the world could go on, and probably be a better place, without it. oh, and when's the singer of cold actually putting out that record? wasn't that like 2 years ago when they were working on a new record? i'm ok with it never coming out, since we really don't need more crappy music nowadays.

see, here we go. now you are trying to argue that i have never heard smugface, in their glory of staind-meets-cold-meets-something-even-more-boring. i've known about the band for like 3 or 4 years. i knew about the guy from cold that was "helping" them, though nothing came out of that obviously. of the song's that i have heard from them (which hasn't been for a while, so i suppose it's possible that they have changed their sound to become more trendy and with the current times, do i sense some new wave influences? skinny ties? or maybe they're "hardcore" now), one of the songs was called "paintbrush" or something similiar, and the chorus talked about colors. so, even though you'll probably dismiss what i'm saying as "oh well you can only think of one song from a long time ago so you don't really know", understand that i do know what i am talking about, because if i didn't, well, i wouldn't be talking about it then.
i never contended that i have anything to measure up to your many gold and platinum records that you have hanging around your studio. i never suggested that i have anything to compare to you expensive, incredible, astounding studio that you have. heck, i don't even have that "kick ass" of a video game collection. what i do know that i have a good knowledge of the rock and roll music, and i would be willing to bet a dollar, yes a whole dollar, on the fact that your band is anything but "kick ass".
since this thread is about musical taste, not musical merit, i'd like to hear some of your favorite bands. not zepplin and pink floyd, the beatles or any other "safe" answers, either, favorite CURRENT bands that are still releasing records.

As the poster of the original post that turned all this into a flame war I would like to appologize to goodtone for starting all of this. It was not my intention to cause this much of an arguement over something that in the grand scheme of things makes no difference. Every one in the thread has and is entitled to their own opinion. It does seem however that choosing the words "Suck" or "Worst" in the thread more often means that the poster doesn't like said band. Every band signed to a record deal has talent in some way even if that talent is coniving their way into a contract. For any band to get signed some one has to like them and for everyone who likes something there is some one else who doesn't.
The true test of music's badness for me is "will I turn this artist or group off if they come on the radio." I can think of very few examples of music I dislike enough to expend the effort to move my arm and change stations. That's not to say I'd buy their albums or whatnot, but hating something enough to call it "worst" would denote a significant emotional investment against the group in question, something that I can't claim against most pop music, derivative though much of it is.
And Goodtone, you know I'm just f.ucking with you, right? There's no ill will on my part, I just like to jerk people around in overblown popularity contests such as this one. You just made a fun target, since you seemed to be taking it too seriously. I mean, come on, this whole thing is a step above "Bee Gees suck! KISS Army forever!"

This is not goodtone talking on this single posting here..This is Adriel from Smugface which is now officially callled "City Sleeps". You can say what you want about my band, but I have been in the recording studio with John Feldman working on my band's first full length CD. We got a record deal from Maverick (Madonna's Label) and John Feldman is producing us. He is the singer/guitarist from the band Goldfinger and he has produced The Used, Story of the Year, M.E.S.T., and Good Charlotte. Our new CD will break new ground and has a new hard rock sound along the lines of Faith No More (Angeldust) meets Jeff Buckley. If you heard our stuff from 2 years ago, those were just demos that we did on a small budget until goodtone started helping us out. Scooter never helped us and we have nothing to do with the band "Cold". So that information you have is false. I ought to know because I am IN the band and people start rumors like this that aren't true. I don't want to argue with anyone because I have much better things to do. Just know this....I am in a signed band making money playing and writing music..I get to do what I love every day and get paid lots of money for it. You can talk all the crap you want, but ultimately, it will only help me sell records and I will make more money to buy more stuff and have a very comfortable life. Ever heard the saying "even bad publicity is good publicity"? well it works really good like that so just keep talking all you want about my band. I have enough people that really enjoy my music to make it all worth it anyways.....peace out...Adriel from "City Sleeps" formerly known a s "Smugface"

Movies, for example get greenlighted all the time by major studios and many of them do in fact suck. That doesn't mean that alot of talented people didn't pour their hearts into them. Some things just don't come together in the end. Its all opinion obviously but a Beavis and Butthead quote says it all. "If some things didn't suck, how would you know when something was cool?"

You people are so intelligent........I just do not know what to say any more after that last comment... Maybe you should all just stick to huffing gas...because with the few brain cells that you have, maybe it just doesn't matter any more. You might as well have fun with the few brain cells you have left! Blow it out and have a Carbon cleaner and Gas huffing Party! Invite all your friends to join in on the festivities. It will be great fun and you will be "Cool" and the envy of your neighborhood playground. Then it will not matter even more that you cannot carry on an intelligent conversation because all that matters is that you are "Huffing down at the party playground". Which just happens to be a new Rancid song (which is a band that I know you people that thinks things "suck" really love alot).......Party on people and enjoy your lives..have fun listening to your Offspring CD's and watching Beavis and Butthead.....Later...we gotz things to do...

No matter what you say and how much it makes sense, there will always be people that are so close-minded that they decide something sucks without even giving it a chance. It is rediculious but what can you do? There is no point in trying to reason so just let them think what they want, because any attention they get will only fuel their desire to say more stupid shit.

And who do you think is so great that anyone who likes Beavis and Butthead and Offspring are idiots? Talking about being close minded and your doing the same thing right here. People have different tastes and some of them happen to have what you or I would consider "bad taste" in music or television shows but I'm sure what we like is also considered to "suck" to them so it really is a pointless argument, but infering that someone is stupid or ignorant because of it is ignorant.

you know, i was all fired up about this guy when i was posting my comments yesterday, but that died like 5 minutes after his buddy from the crappy band (that admitted to being another faith no more rip off, by the way) posted. he just doesn't get it, but whatever. i'm not going to bother with the ridiculous statements that he posted.
i do agree with him that rancid totally sucks, though. especially nowadays.

Goodtone, let me give you a small piece of advice. When it comes to music, don't challenge thatstoobad. His incredulous mix of swarminess and vast musical knowledge have no weaknesses. Back away slowly, and bow your head.

I had a few words with benji from good charlotte outside a show a couple years ago, he is one genuinley nice guy. I think that bands image is just stupid but hes a really nice guy.
Also the NFG guys are good people. theyve done a huge amount for my friends band just because theyre nice. my friends van full of equipment got jacked right before a tour and NFG offered to fly them out to their tour stop take car of transportation and help them out with new equipment.
good guys.

I wasn't going to post this, but since it seems the thread is going downhill again, here goes.
LOOK AT ME I AM GRATE!!!!11
Look at my recording studio and limited edition action figure. I AM BETTER THAN YOU. Don't believe me? I've got gold and platinum records! What have you got? EVERYTHING I SAY IS RIGHT AND IF YOU DISAGREE WITH ME YOU ARE WRONG AND STUPID. ALL THE GOLD AND PLATINUM RECORDS SAY SO!!!
Congrats, you've made an ass of yourself. Go take your ego and "holier than thou" BS somewhere else, kthx.
Side note - I have no doubt you're a producer. In fact, I'm wondering if you've worked with one or more of the bands listed in the poll, and you're trying to defend them. You've made some respectable points in this thread, but insulting others for theirs is crossing the line.
This is why I don't discuss music that much anymore.

Ok, that's it, no one stopped, so I am forced to lock this retarded flame war.
