Disorderly conduct is not covered under freedom of speech. There is no excuse for cursing in school. Plus they say...
"Glenn Gattis and his parents don't deny that he cursed or has had other disciplinary problems at Ashley High School. But they say the misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct is an overreaction."
The fact that he has had other issues and STILL can't control his mouth means the slaps on the wrists aren't working.

If he didn't have a history of belligerence, it would have been dismissed with a warning or detention at most. Once ou get a rep people won't give you a free pass anymore.

Going to jail for swearing is a bit harsh. Suspension is even too much IMO.

I agree with Guile on this one. Someone with a bad history deserves to be punished. I'm sure he's done several bad things that led up to this.

It's time for people to start being held accountable for their actions, instead of crying. Why did he curse in the first place? I mean, I do at home, but not at work. It's not that hard to control.

I agree, especially depending on what you said/who it was directed to. If it wasn't directed to anyone in general, he shouldn't have even gotten in trouble IMO. And while some people can control what they say for outbursts, others can't, especially when they're angry. That's just how it is I guess :?

Yes but jail even juvie sounds a bit harsh, but then teachers can't inforce anything or the schools got a pile of lawsuits on thier hands, I as alwasy blame the lawyers. In the old days he'd be sitting on a dunce stool with a bar of soap in his mouth.

School has to maintain a certain environment that is much like a work environment. If you started swearing at your boss, you would be fired on the spot.
I was gonna make a Rodney King joke, but just couldn't do it...

Once again, this is about DISORDERLY CONDUCT not freedom of speech.
I bet if the roles were reversed with the teacher cursing at the student, they would demand the teacher be fired. It works both ways.

Exactly. Kids are given WAY too many "free passes".

I'll never understand why cursing is so bad. I just don't see the difference between saying crap and shit if you mean the same thing. It's drawing a line that doesn't really exist.
While I agree that this kid is probably habitually a problem and deserves what he got, but jail seems a bit harsh. I mean disorderly conduct for cursing? That's absurd.

I wonder what would happen if people started using shaq-fu instead of f.uck in public... the world would be a lot more comical place.

That would be hilarious to walk up to someone and say to them "shut the fuck up" and it look like this. then they respond back to you "what did you say you stupid mother fucker"
i would probably die of laughter if i heard someone saying that

or you could say boy did shaq ever suck shaq-fuin donkey cock in the finals. Of course I didn't care, I'm a huge Pistons fan. The whole "horsepower" theme and all... of course I hate that imitation horse mascot they have called Hooper.
