Hey, I wanna put another HDD in this new computer come Christmas. Does it void my warranty when I install it?

Most likely, but check your warranty info, thats the only way to tell for sure.

I'm pretty sure if you open your computer up, it voids your warrenty. Most computers have a little VOID sticker on the back, and when you open them up, it rips the sticker off. So then your warrenty is void. I'm not 100% certain, but that's how my computer is.
Also what brand do you have?
I agree with everyone else. Usually, the computer manual shows you how to open and install this stuff, but it also (usually) says this will void the warranty.

Yeah, usually any modification to your computer screws the pooch on the warranty.
If you still need the extra storage, consider getting an external HDD.

How much do those usually cost?
Also, it's a Dell.

Nah, I've upgraded my Dell a lot and the waranty is still fine, mainly you void the waranty when you upgrade a laptop and cut the waranty sticker.
But if your're really worried a 5 minute call to Dell will solve this problem.

Yeah the Dell I have has been opened countless times, modified countless times, and I've been able to get parts replaced under the warranty.

Cool. One more question. What do you have to do when installing a second drive besides hooking it up? I already know how to put a HDD in an extra slot, but I don't know what or if you have to do something after hooking it up.

That's pretty much it. Install the hard drive, your PC should recognize it right away. Then creative another drive for it in My Computer, name it whatever, and shazam.

You may also have to format it if it is a different File System than your computer. Mine is NTFS, and I had to format my new drive so I could use it. And to add it to your My Computer, you have to right click on My Computer, go to Manage, then click on Disk Management. The rest I don't remember lol.

that's why you just peel the sticker up, open the case, install, close, and resticker

Yea! The master and Slave 1, slave 2 stuff on the back. set one to master and the other to slave 1 with the things on the back.
edit: for some reason being tired makes me hyper, so now i'm calming down and deleting some !!!!.

Most drives don't need a jumper to be set as slave.

When you get your new hard drive make sure you set the pin in the back to slave, I did this once and left them both as master drives, god did I feel stupid when I figured out what was wrong.
