I was just thinking about when Sega abandoned the portable market but never brought there franchises to the GB systems.
I personally think that was the biggest reason they had financial trouble(besides the arcade market crashing).
I know these companies are "rivals" in the home market but i'm positive that they could work something out with microsoft on the portable side.
I just don't see Nintendo or Sony refusing a Halo game for the Ds or Psp.

I think Microsoft won't develop for either of them because they probably have plans for a hand held system but don't see the market as open enough to make one. If the PsP sells this might change things.

I think they should just from a financial standpoint. This would end up helping each company out greatly. Microsoft could get people to buy the PSP and DS just because they would be releasing a game for it. (there are some people that would actually do this) And people that are buying the systems could get the game because they own the system and if they like it, they can start purchasing more microsoft games.
Microsoft wins/Sony & Nintendo win
it may happen with some Rare games since they were allowed to develop games for the GBA.
It would be cool, but I don't see it happening.

I think MS should create a sub company that is uber rich as they are. Then have that company look like they want to invest in Sony/Nintendo. All the while MS decides to give the next version of Windows away for free. Have the Sub company do a Corp take over of Sony/Nintendo. Then Once the worlds population has Windows Next installed take over the goverments and the the WORLD by controlling the majority of the earths computers.
But really if the did decide to do side projects I would want to see MS provide older geared content for Nintendo DS

Hell will freeze over before MS puts any of their titles on another company's platform.
Sega's demise had more to do with bad business decisions, horrible marketing, and in their entire history only having one successful console (Genesis) and so many failures (Master System, 32x, SegaCD, Saturn, Dreamcast) and a disconnect and even disdain and loathing for Sega of America.

That's illegal to do, it's because Atari did that when they first started out. They created a fake competitor to help get some of their competition off of them. The SEC made it illegal years after Atari did this.

Illegal? tons of things are illegal but rich people do them anyways.

Their current policy of allowing publishers to license Microsoft franchises for non-competing platforms should serve their purposes just fine until they choose to enter portable gaming field on their own. At the moment they're reluctant to do so since so many of their PocketPC licensees are inching in that direction. They'd probably prefer to define some gaming platform specs and let the Dells and Compaqs take on the challenge of making this into a mass market item. For Microsoft to pursue their own handheld gaming platform they need to find an angle that gives their product an edge and nobody has pitched the right formula yet. It could evolve out their portable media player initiative if that gains any traction.

I hope MS stays out of the portable market. They need to keep their focus on Xbox (and Xbox 2 eventually).

Microsoft should put out their own portable gaming device. 'Nuff said.

Microsoft is to new to put out a protable device. its critical that each thing (console) they put out is succesful. If they got backlash at this point it might be the end of Microsoft for a generation or two.
i dont see why they wouldnt do it but it wouldnt be on the PSP. The reason is they want ot do more with their console than just game and Nintendo wants just the opposite.
Therefore they see Sony as competition and Nintendo as non competition. They would care less if Nintendo stayed in business along side of them its Sony they want.
I wouldnt put it past them to release a Halo on the DS when the PSP launches. It would be more beneficial to hurt Sony on their new system than them worrying about helping Nintendo.
