There was a review in this month's GI.. if I remember correctly it was very so-so.

And there's Donky Kong Jungle Beat coming out, you swing from vine to vine by beating on the drums or something like that.

My thoughts:

Drum Master - $59.99 not much chance of any sequels
Donkey Konga - $49.99 sequel already planned and announced

Here's the first review from someone who sounds like they've actually played it already...
this game is great and all, but it just doesnt feel right. The drum is too small, sticks are uncomfotable because of da size of it. Its quite annoying but itz ok. What would of been better if they made it a 5 piece drum set for it to play instead of one boring piece. The 2nd error is the translation and the songs are terrible.

Unfortunately, he sounds like a 12 year old, spells it's with a Z, and uses DA instead of THE.

But whatever, I'd vote Donkey Konga simply becuase Nintendo sounds like they may actually support this peripheral for a while. I doubt we'll ever see a Drum master 2 with new songs.

The Drum Master series is huge in Japan, but that usually doesn't guarantee success over here.

Actually, Konga was made because of how huge drum master is in Japan, also with the sales of Katamari being as they are, and the buzz of Taiko it is possible we will see a sequel, since there are others over seas.

If light gun shooter, karaoke, dancing game or even the Xbox's Steel Battalion get to have sequel, I don't see why this one doesn't.

Sequel? Do you know anything we don't, or do you count any game that uses the same peripheral as a sequel?

Are you assuming that he's 12 because of his grammar?

I've played them both games extensively. I prefer TAIKO Drum Master, as the graphics and song selection are better, and I prefer the drum controller to the bongos. Donkey Konga's great, but its lame DK graphics did little for me, and there were more cheesy campfire songs. I like having drumsticks in TAIKO, because it feels more like a real musical instrument. However, they're both very fun games, so you probably won't be disappointed either way.

It must be said that I prefer DrumMania to either one, but it's expensive to import.

Donkey Konga is a little bit of a slapdash effort compared to Taiko Drum Master, but I wouldn't let that stop you from getting it, as you can use the bongos with other games down the line. I plan on getting both (already have Donkey Konga), but I don't worry about money when it comes to games like this.

There is already a Donkey Konga 2 in Japan (it's been out for like 4 months). And that's besides DK: Jungle Beat and Odama, both of which use the same bongo controller.

So basically, yes. We do know something that you don't.

With all respect, i'm pretty sure eldad9 was referring to a North American sequel. In which case, Nintendo hasn't given word on it yet. If he was referring to Japan, he probably would have mentioned that there are already 5 Taiko Drum Master sequels already out. I think Nintendo would be stupid not to make a NA Donkey Konga sequel, the more games for the peripheral, the hotter it will sell.

Don't try and speak for other people. You don't know that's what he meant. And be a little more clear in your posts. It sounds like when you start talking about Taiko in Japan that you are still talking about eldad9's statement. But there is no reason for him to state that there are 5 Taikos. He was talking about DK. And if you were just being lazy in your typing and were talking about the guy he quoted, they don't necessarily know anything about Taiko just because they know something about DK.

It's one thing to ramble aimlessly when just posting. But when you try to refute someone's previous post, pick a point, stick to it and make it clear. Your speaking for other people and Taiko garble have nothing to do with Nintendo and sequels for their franchises.

I just received an e-mail survey from Nintendo today that was about Donkey Konga. They asked how happy I was with the product, why I bought it and if I intended to purchase another game with expanded songlists. I guess the decision hasn't really been made yet, but they are collecting data.

don't mean to intrude on this argument, but there is a reason for eldad9 to state that there are 5 taikos. In your OP you said that there was not much chance of any sequels for Taiko (there are 5 in japan), but there is a sequel planned for Donkey Konga (only in Japan so far).

I don't mean to gang up on you or anything..

EDIT: just realized that I am about 9 days late on the come back. Ignore

I never said that there was not likely going to be a Taiko sequel here. It was someone else. Watch the names of those who are quoted closer. But I can understand the confusion since I am now completely confused because there have been so many different posters on the same issue getting the stories and quotes crossed. I have a headache, I don't even want to think about it.
The point is that Taiko already has sequels somewhere in the world (which I never disputed).
And DK has a sequel somewhere in the world as well.

I'd explain what I meant, but now I'm confused as well.

OK, OK. When bmulligan wrote "Drum Master - $59.99 not much chance of any sequels" he was obviously referring to the domestic market. And when he wrote "Donkey Konga - $49.99 sequel already planned and announced" he was also referring to the domestic market - otherwise he would have written "sequel already released". So I just asked if this announced sequel was something we didn't know about, or if he considered DKJB a sequel to Donkey Konga. That's all.
