I got FF3 today for SNES, and it looks like someone wrote their initials on it. It looks pretty faded already, but I'd sure as hell like to remove it. What gets that stuff off without discoloring the cartridge itself? I know theres something that'll do it.

Ah, acetone. That stuffs in nail polish remover. I suppose I should soak the affected area, and not immerse the cartridge.

Its also on that back label too, but its really faded. Can I use it for that too or will it ruin the label?

I'm guessing it will ruin the label. Probably destroy the glue. I'd go for magic. It's the safest bet.

if it's just on the plastic, just use rubbing alcohol. if it's on the label, well, i don't really know then.

Try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser things. They took paint marker off the wall at my work with no damage to original paint.

Just a little acetone on a paper towel should take that right off of the plastic, though I'm not too sure if it would damage it or not (I don't think it would, but it's hard to guess).

I've been rubbing acetone on it with a paper towell, no effect. I can try alcohol but I don't expect much.

acetone might just smear the marker if its old enough, your best bet is probably not to mess with it.

I'd rather mess with it than leave it the way it is...

The marked area is soaking in acetone now, I'll wait an hour and see what happens.

Are the backs of SNES cartridges interchangable? Couldn't I just use a nice looking back of a lesser game to make it look good? The front isn't written on at all. Unless somethings attached to the back part, in which case it wouldn't work...

DO NOT USE ACETONE!

It will melt the plastic. Only use water based solvents like rubbing alcohol. Make sure you get the 99% solution, not the watered down stuff.

Nothing has done much of anything yet so I'll go with the alcohol when I can get some. I'll stay away from the acetone then, thanks.

tsk, tsk...Dr. Mario says "that'll void your warranty kids." You know, the one that ran out about 10 years ago, heh...

Seriously though, if you find a solution I'd like to know, I recently moved and while goin' through all my old NES games have come to find that it appears the Folks were marking the back of the carts with our last name...must have seemed sensible at the time...now it just makes my inner collector cry himself to sleep at night...
