After an attempted syphoning of my gas tank, I've decided to get a lock for it to keep these people away from my gas. I'm going to head over the local Autozone tomorrow, and I want to know if anyone has any recommendations for me? How much was it and did it work well?

How do you know someone tried to syphon your gas? I didn't know people still did that. :D

They're about $7-$9, they work fine for what they're supposed to do. Just tell them what sort of vehicle you have and tell them you want a locking gas cap, easy breezy.

I think somebody tried to siphon my gas also. I found some mints by one of my back tires. They were a litle to close to my gas tank...

The fuel door was open when I hadn't driven in two days, so I put two and two together and figured out that someone tried to syphon gas and that they figured out that I had a 1/4 of a tank of gas and gave up. The Tempe/Phoenix is one of the highest car theft areas in the country, so I figured something like this might happen. Also, gas has gotten rather expensive around here in the past week.

That sucks (literally). Gas caps work well, but they can be a pain (don't lose the key). I got one after some kids in my old neighborhood were putting substances into people's gas tanks.

If you really want to deter gas thieves, just buy enough gas to get where you are going every morning. That way your tank will always be low and if they want your gas, they will have to work for it.

I could do that, but that would just be more of a hassle than it's worth. I just want to get a lock so they won't be able to get in at all.

Also don't break off the key in th lock. People do that a lot apparently...

I understand, I have a lock too. I always keep my gas tank low because I am a broke-ass, cheap-ass, broke-cheap motherfuccker.

Yeah, back in High School, I got one after some kids had put shaving cream in my tank.

It's a good idea, but I think it would piss off some of the vandals. They might do something else to your car because they couldn't get any gas out of it.

Now if only I could find a site for cheapass insurance. I pay about $1100 a year, and my car is only worth $900.

When the power went out from MI to NY, i had almost no gas in my tank. I now never let it get past 1/2 empty...never again...

I think if someone trys to syphon off gas from your car- you should forcibly make them Syphon some shotgun shells out of your shotgun.
