Does anyone know much about car subs? I am going to get some and I think I have decided. I think this is what I am gonna get: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5724875948&ssPage Name=STRK:MEWA:IT
It is alittle bit more sub than I need but the price is good!! The car was wired from the previous owner who had (i believe) a 10" Solo-Baric L5. My main question is will that wiring work with these subs or do I need more powerful wiring? Any help would be appriciated. Thanks and in advanced no flamming about us teens and our music
Here is a pic of the wiring in my trunk now:

Ya, that looks like it will work. Big wires is a huge myth. Unless you are running multiple 1000 watt amps, 8-10ga is fine. Thats not a bad set, $270 shipped. Check out circuit city and best buy. Tweeter too if they are around you. You can get good open box buys there.
Quality over quanity.
Check out Alpine t-120. You can bride it to 100 watts RMS. I use that with an Extant 10" sub. Sounds great. Its nice clean bass. Its not sloppy. Its not gonna shatter any windows, but sounds great.

Well, the wiring all depends on the current of the amp you will be running. Small wiring could work, but it would be tougher on the electrical system and may not give your amp all the power it needs, thus not giving you all the power it can give.
Also visit http://forum.sounddomain.com/ that place taught me pretty much everything you would need to know about what you are doing.

Sony isn't too hot when it comes to car audio, I'd look for Rockford's...

Or JL Audio.
I dont see ground wire there? Make sure its at least the same gauge as teh power wire. Also it looks like you are running 8 guage for power. Thats enough for most amps.
I had a huge bit of info I wrote out a while ago I will find the link cause i dont have time to do it again....
I believe some info is good in this post...

audiobahn and diamond are also great, I had them in my ride here:

and big nick is right, you dont need super heavy duty wiring unless you go crazy like me LOL
and unless you want your car as a giant vibrator, go for the quality, some people want loud and dont care about the sound, but I say that if your putting in the effort make sure you can at least enjoy the music.
(note unfortuntally car was sold recentaly on ebay to pay for some medical bills =( ) Good Luck!

I wouldn't get a 10" if I were you... they suck for the most part unless it's a high end one. You're better off spending like $20-$50 more for a 12".

Yeah I would say no to Sony XPlode stuff. Sorry to say that but you asked.
Seems like they got the name right though!
I've got a 10" Image Dynamics sub, and it sounds great (the best brand no one's heard of). I'm not looking to blow the doors off, and wake the neighborhood. I just want to round out my music, and feel a little bass now and then. I was limited by space, and had to go with a 10". If you have room to spare I would go to a 12" sub.
As mentioned I would stay away from the Sony Xplode. There's a lot better subs out there for not much more in price. Also, don't cheap out on the amp. Buy a decent Alpine, Kicker, RF, Kenwood amp. I picked up an Alpine MRD-M300 mono sub amp off eBay for 150 brand new 1.5 years ago, and it performs great.
As for the wiring, it should be okay... The patch cable looks a little chinsy. Once installed if you get a whine or any type of feedback I'd replace it with a better shielded cable.

Profile amps are always a decent lesser priced amp to be honest.

I love this amp
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-RgzQe2iiBYC/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?wm=fp&I=500MRPT220
good solid clean power.
Like Kaw said, a 10" is more than enough to add good bass
a sub like this will pair well with that alpine amp
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-RgzQe2iiBYC/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?wm=fp&I=575P110S4&g=67600
Add $50-$70 for a enclosure and you are good to go.

All this stuff is a little more than the one you saw on ebay, but is a lot better.
Plus, if you want to upgrade, this stuff will work nicely. Move the t220 amp to power some front speakers, and get a bigger amp and sub.

Oh ya, and with crutchfield, they give decent phone suppor tfor the life of the components, and if your total is $200 before shipping, you can pay in 4 monthly installments with a credit card. I do that feature alot when I upgrade my head unit every 2 years or so.

Custom built sub enclosure under the seat:

Better look at the Image Dynamics 10" sub:

Also, I've got Kenwood eXcelon 6x8's in the back doors, and Polk 5x7's in the front doors. It's a Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

ahhhh, the double din. I opted for the single din and extra "pocket" nice location for the amp, hidden behind a plastic panel. Thats what I did with mine. I hated having to be careful when I threw somthing in the extended cab. Carpet that box up and you will be all set!

Also heres what I do to get car audio cheap. Go to an authorized retalier (online) such as www.sounddomain.com and www.thezeb.com . Just have them price match just the cheapest you can find that item online (search with yahoo). That way you get the cheapest price and the warantee and support.

I use to have a crossfire amp, it was awesome. I miss it, but it was overkill for my truck.
