Today was my first day working at gamestop. I worked from 9:30 am to 1:30pm. I like this job alot but boy did I mess up alot today. I couldn't work the annoying ass register and it was only me and another employee. The store was really packed too. I really like this job and I want to keep it but I think that they might let me go if I don't get with the program soon. I just want some tips from some gamestop employees and share your first day experience so i won't feel so bad.... :)

Bingo. I'm telling you man, all that's going to happen is you're going to become more and more disillusioned with the job, and it's going to make you more and more angry everyday. Then one day they're going to cut your discount, and tell you to work harder. Then you come in the next day, and they have you down to working 3 hrs a week. Before you know it, yiou're kicking over shelves of games because some douche hole manager doesn'tr even have the common decency to-ahem, sorry. Just find another job man. Trust me.

Well it looks like your already living up to the high standards we have all come to know and expect from gamestop employees, so I'd suggest taking a break and relax instead of trying to push yourself to hard.

I worked at a store back when it was Funcoland (GameStop bought them up back in 2000). It was my first job out of high school, and I enjoyed it. Back then, we earned commission on cleaning kits and GI subscriptions, so I could make a decent living.

I enjoyed it. It really helped me learn a lot about games, and I met some cool people. We were able to buy a game, then bring it back within 2 weeks and get what they were selling it for back. I got to play a lot of games this way -- some I kept.

But advice, huh? My suggestion is to listen. Everyone has something they can teach you. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions; it's the only way to learn. Making mistakes is natural your first few weeks (months?) at a job, so don't sweat it. They know you're overwhelmed and will cut you some slack -- unless, of course, a guy comes in calling himself the Xbox Inspector and you give him all the consoles and games. ;)

Don't stress, bro. You'll do fine.

I used to work at Gamestop. And I agree with Reality's Fringe, though my experiences weren't quite that bad. Then again, I'm working at Best Buy now selling fucking cameras. That's probably worse.

Don't worry guys, work gets a lot better after college.

Exception: there's a GameStop near my home, and they have 3 young kids working there. All they do is play GameBoy Advance SP games majority of the time. When customers go up to them and ask for help, some of them act like customers are disrupting their games-in-progress.

Not really. More pressure and more bills to pay. I would love to take a time machine and go back to time when I was 18.

Working at Gamestop can be VERY hit or miss, sanity wise depending on who you work with. When I first started, I had a really cool boss, and a good group of people to work with, so I enjoyed myself, despite having inconsistent hours and whatnot. I would get more hours than the other grunts, because I was better with reservations and GI cards. Eventually, My boss was transferred to another store, and he asked me to come with him, and that I would be promoted to 3rd key, so I went with him. I didn't like the clientele at the new store NEARLY as much, but the people there were still pretty decent, and my boss was still there. Then the Asst MAnager got transferred to another store, and the ASst Manager from another store came into take his place. I cuoldn't stand this woman, and I knew I wouldn't because she came from a store where the people were really pushy, and I hated going there. Shortly after that, my boss put in his two weeks, since he was going back to school full time. So since I knew this bitch was going to eventually wind up taking his place, I quit

i am thinking of finding another job soon (i work at gs now). the only reason i am leaving is because my cool manager is getting a new job soon and so is the assistant manager. we will probably get an asshole manager there because our dm worked at foot action which went out of business and he is hiring all these foot action people over more qualified people, so we would probably get one of them as the manager. so i think i am going to look for a new job tomorrow since i have the day off.
