I am really getting into this game and was wondering what others thought about this game. I'm a fan of the X-Men, but not like some people (comic book guys can be scary with their history of the comic talks...)
I'd give it an early 8.5/10. I keep finding myself without time to play it but I'm always thinking about finding time. Oooh, I've got time now :runs:

Picked it up yesterday @ Target (on sale). Haven't even found time to open it yet.
Have you played multiplayer? My son is a huge X-Men fan and am sure he will be excited to try that aspect out.
How similar is it to Baldur's Gate?

I'm disgusted that, from the screens that I've seen, they aren't wearing the traditional costumes. They're wearing these movie-inspired blue-pleather looking get-ups, and it's stupid (in my opinion).
I realize that Wolverine in a yellow skin-tight outfit might not be a great idea for the movies (which were pretty good; I'm not saying that), but in a video game? Come on, don't sell out to pop culture!
Maybe I'm wrong, and when I pick the game up for cheap I'll be pleasantly surprised with the gameplay, so much so that I'll forget about the costumes. Until then: humbug!

Snipegod - You can play flashback missions and they have their old costumes, and Wolverine does have his old yellow one. You could probably play through the game with the old costume after you beat it once or something.
I have been interested, but I am a little leery about buying an X-Men game; they usually aren't that good. However, I am going to rent this soon, and try it out.

I got it for Xbox, but only cause Gamerush didn't have a Gamecube copy.
I try to support the Cube when I can.
I'm going to get this game once it drops to $20. I have plenty of games to beat. Does this game have multiplayer?

Wolverine has his yellow one only in the flashback missions or in all? Because in the commercials that I saw (and granted, I'm not saying that I've researched this or anything, just spouting off. :P ), he was in blue pleather.
Oh well. The flashback missions sound cool with the old outfits and all.
I'll pick the game up cheap. Unfortunately, I'm broke right now.

Wolverine appears to have the Weapon-X get-up as well. Check www.gamespot.com for costume details.

I'm no comic book guru but my friend who plays this game with me says it's based off of the "Ultimate X-men" series hence the different costumes. When/If you play the game you get to pick up comics and you will notice that they are "Ultimate X-men" comics.

This game does have multiplayer...I haven't used it yet but will be trying it out soon.
As I mentioned before I'm not a huge X-Men fan so things like costume color doesn't bother me at all. But it's a storyline I like and that's all I need.
The game plays (I'm told) very similar to Baulder's Gate. The leveling up system here is very good and just complex enough to keep you thinking.
I suggest getting this game, it's probably one of the 3 best superhero games to date. Worth the $40 I spent on it, if and when it hits $20 jump all over that.

I got this at the TRU sale yesterday and have spent about two hours with it so far. I love it! I used to collect X-Men and some of the related books (New Mutants, Excalibur, etc.) back in the day. Still have 'em, but haven't bought a comic book for about 15 years. Nevertheless, I still have much love for the X-Men and this game seems to have the stuff. The story and dialogue were penned by a collective of ex-X-Men (heh) comic writers, so while it doesn't get involved in the intricacies of the comic book plots, you do get a good survey of the characters' motivations and histories (15 past and present X-Men are playable, not including the myriad villains you can play as in the Danger Room scenarios once you have defeated them) as well as some of the better X-Men plots from over the years.
As others have mentioned, a lot of the characters get flashback missions, where you get to play through a key event in their history. At that point the character will be in the uni or have the look that they sported at that point in time. I believe it is possible to unlock (whether through code or accomplishment I'm not sure) the ability to choose the look of your X-Men in the main game (you can even give Iceman his original snowman form). Otherwise the appearances here are drawn from the Ultimate X-Men comic, with which I'm not familiar but is apparently quite popular. The voicework in the game is surprisingly well done (as in the movies, Patrick Stewart performs Professor X, providing a nice bit of continuity) and the voices chosen for the characters seem universally appropriate.
It's a quality action game, but it also contains a surprising amount of RPG elements. As they level up you can customize your X-Men in many different ways, chiefly through distributing points amongst attributes and mutant abilities. You also pick up a range of wearable upgrades throughout missions that can be equipped to improve stats.
The game features AWESOME multiplayer, with one caveat: the story often switches between team missions and single player (in the framing sequences you play as Alison Crestmere, aka Magma of the New Mutants), so there are points when your buddies will have to watch you walk around the mansion or perform other expository action. It's cool to learn about the X-universe whether playing or watching, but might not be fun for some people. In any event, it's very easy for one, two, or three additional players to jump in or out at any time. The unused characters remain on autopilot and go back to that mode when players leave. If you have less than four players you can switch at will between any of the four characters in the party that isn't being controlled by another player at the moment. Very nicely done. I hope to get my wife hooked on it soon so we can play through together.

I plan on getting it when it drops to $20 or so. If I can I want to get the Xbox version.

I was really excited about this game. I'm a big Baulder's gate fan on the PS2 and I've been waiting for this game for a long time. Unfortunately, there are some issues with the game that make it less than enjoyable. One is the loose controls. Junping onto small ledges seems to be an art not a science. Two is the fact that falling of some ledges causes your character to die when two minutes earlier, you jumped off a ledge twice as tall to move into another area.
Multiplayer really needed a zoom-out feature or something. There's nothing worse than being trapped behind a bush in a corner while player 2 is getting the crap kicked out of him in the opposite corner. Wait, there IS something worse: Being taken out by offscreen enemies who attack you before you can even see where they are.
They also should have taken a cue from Baulder's gate and made the save points seperate from portals or "extraction points". And in addition, I can't seem to save a game over a previous gamesave. Everytime I try I get the corrupted file message and have to make a new save file. (I have a 1st part mem card BTW). Anyone else have this problem?
A lot of little things like these make this game unpolished, like they could have worked for another month or two to tighten it up for release. Maybe I just expected too much from this game after all the wait and build-up. Maybe I just expect too much for a $50 release.

hmm, quite a predicament you've got there. never happened to me though, and i have a 251 1st party memory card. try saving on other memory cards?

This game is very boring, my opinion. Unlocking to play multiplayer is stupid. The mobs are repetitive, bosses are hard as hell. Having to rely on potions instead of skills is not my type of game.

I rented this for PS2 and its awesome! Its my favorite X-Men game since the old arcade game. The only thing thats stopping me from buying it is the lack of replay value after you beat it. You don't carry over skills or levels that you gained in a previous game, you have to start fresh. Plus, you can't use say Colossus from the start in your second play through, you must find all the characters again. The only added perk for replay is the danger room where you can use the bad guys to fight as and the old costumes you get for beating it once. I can't wait for X-Men Legends 2.

i think theres a way to get the older costumes too, it might be if you beat the game once and play through it again, dont quote me

A friend of mine back home picked this up during the TRU sale, I'm looking forward to playing it next time I'm back.
