In highschool my policy was basically if the teacher wasnt there I wouldnt be there and if I was overtired from partying or other things I wouldnt. I wasnt a major cutter, no reason school wasnt that boring. In college I use the policy my sociology teacher in highschool told me, (we were buds) why cut a class your paying for. Today I chose not to go to my classes because I truely feel like shit, and it reminded me of all the days I cut and just didnt go to school/class. So whats your policy?

I went to class often. In middle school I never missed a day of class. Although I was young...also, in High School I never really "cut" class, although I missed days.
College, I skipped a few classes that I knew would not be THAT important. Although, you are paying TOO much money not to go. I'm still paying for student loans...and I will for another 7 years.
So, just go to class and quit being a slacker. What's next, cutting work?

I think it's fine every once and awhile, I tend to do it 3-4 times a term.
So, just go to class and quit being a slacker. What's next, cutting work?[QUOTE]
Only on Nov. 9, on which day I will be cutting work and class.

Wow, a video game is MORE important than a job or school
I for one, can wait to pick up Halo2 AFTER work. Although I may take off early depending on the work load I have that day

I rarely skipped class for no reason (i.e., not sick) back in college.
Although I did skip once just because I was having the best dream of my life where Julia Roberts was telling me she loved me and invited me to her mansion for christmas....

I didn't cut classes without a good reason to. Some days I just wouldn't feel well and figured since I was paying them, I shuoldn't feel guilty if I didn't feel well and stayed home. I did cut class on 9/9/99 to pick up my Dreamcast when the store opened. Mainly because I only had like two classes that day, knew I wouldn't miss much and figured I wouldn't be able to concentrate on it anyway. I considered cutting on the day X-Box came out, decided not to, and my last class let out early, so I got out an hour early, which I considered a good karma bonus :)

I never skipped in middle school, but I did quite a few times in high school. I say if you can do it with out getting caught, more power to you.
I only skipped a few times in high school, and I very rarely "oversleep" some of my college classes.

I'm glad you can wait...
But I don't think I'm in the minority here. I know of a lot of people who are having fun with it and making it an event. Even people I work with are taking the next day off and going to the midnight release. It's not that a game is MORE important than my job or school, but it's one day of the past three years of anticipation — I think it's worth it. Plus, I'm using vacation days that I've earned and saved up because I never miss work.
Besides, if you worked my job you'd be looking for ANY reason to miss a day too.

i remember back in high school there used to be 3 lunches 11-1130 1130-noon and noon -1230 it sucked if you got the 1130-noon lunch cause you had to go to the same class twice (11-1130 and noon -1230) Sometimes i would take an hour lunch and skip the 2nd part of the classs. i would go and pick up the attendance paper outside the room before they was able to turn it in :)

I am not saying Halo 2 is a good reason to skip school, but I have to agree with jaso and say that he is not alone. I'll bet there are alot of people planning to skip school/work to play Halo 2.

I never cut classes in middle/high school. I skip a ton of classes in college though, which is bad because you're paying for them :(

Usually my profs. cap the amount of absences you're allowed before your grade takes a hit. Whatever that number is I always miss one less than that, just in case I really do get sick. I think of them as sick days or a mini vacation time. While I didn't do it in high school I kinda wished I did.

dont know if this is nationwide but the last year of high school we got a card that let us miss so many days without our parents knowing we are skipping. we had a 15 max per semster days you could miss or you would automatic fail. What i did though Was 15 days i would get to school around 11am and the other 15 days i would leave around 11 so each day would only count as half. SO i was able to get 30 times ... I used to get there late on monday and leave early on friday

I'm skipping right now!
I'm usually pretty good about going to class but I just didn't feel like it today. In high school I never skipped, well aside from senior skip day. In college though, I usually skip about 1 class a week or so. I've been doing really good lately though, I think this is the first class I've skipped since the beginning of the year.

Skipped once in high school
In college right now, and there were a couple of classes where I never went for the whole semester. Probably just the first two weeks or just to collect my exams. I just attended discussion and lab. Frankly, the classes I skipped, the instructors couldn't teach for shit. I learned better reading the text and going to discussion.
So yea, I advocate skipping classes, but only if you can use the time you gain into something more useful.

College is bullshit. All of this "Why skip when you're paying" stuff is confusing to me, because, since I'm paying for it, shouldn't I skip it if I'm doing well in it? I mean, I'm not paying for the classes, I'm paying for some little piece of paper that says I did the coursework here. I don't skip much, but when I show up, I don't learn anything. Take my Math course. I'm, to say the least, terrible at mathematics. My teacher is a Grad student from India whom I cannot understand half the time. Couple this with my inability to identify variables and you have a GOOD reason to just not show. I'm passing the class, but what's the point in me showing up if I'm not going to take anyhting from it? I FUCKING HATE MATH!

I skipped once or twice in middle school and high school. In college, though I skipped all the time. All you had to do was find out which teachers lectured out of the book and do make sure you read. it also helped to find someone who never missed and took notes, all you had to do was read there notes.

I skipped English 75% of the time last term.
Should explain my point of view. If you can do it and still get the grade - ace.

Cutting the whole day=Fine, it's unlikely you will be found out, and it's always good to take a mental health day (or sleep day) once or twice a quarter.
Cutting classes=Recipe for PWNAGE at my school. You'll get fed in the a with the punishment you get. It's also stupid; people here mostly just skip lunch period.

I've done it a few times, but my school has the strictest fucking policies on leaving grounds or skipping classes that the payoff is totally not worth it to just skip one class if you get caught (which you do 90% of the time, since most of the teachers are EXTREMELY uptight).

I rarely skipped in High School. I mean, I went senior skip day, and a teacher took me out to lunch. I kind of regret it for not enjoying that time period as much as I could have.. and in college (now that I'm a 4th year junior, working student) I skip when I have to but only when it's necessary. You have to find that line between responsibility and slacking that's acceptable I guess... take things seriously, but know when to hit the brakes. Once you get that degree, you'll likely just be a slave to corporate America anyways... so live it up while you can :)

I've never skipped. Hell, I've never even fallen asleep in class.
Part of that is because I can't fall behind in school. I've got three AP classes and I'm doing everything I possibly can to make sure that I won't have to pay (or pay much) for college.
The bigger reason, though, is that I couldn't get away with it. Both of the schools I attend (one being a magnet school for math and science) call home if you're not there, and if I managed to evade that, I'd have to deal with my parents afterwards.
It's not worth it for me, but I couldn't get away with it if I wanted to...

If I have to go every damn day no matter how sick I am, my parents are attendence freaks. My mom hasn't missed work for 22 damn years!!! My dad isn't as worried, since he can take off whenever and still get paid 100% of what he usually does.

I don't outright skip. Even in high school I always felt behind in most classes if I missed a day....but my parents did call me in sick whenever I wanted. Once in school, I had a teacher that would write me a note if I was late or skipped a class saying it was excused, because usually I was hanging around his classroom and he loves to talk, and me and a couple of friends did that often to miss class, and it was excused!
In college, I don't miss unless I am sick or attending something else that makes it excused anyway. Because I am paying for my classes I do feel obligated to go--plus, I like school. There is one class I have right now that is so boring and I always want to skip it but I never do. I also hate being the one my friends come to when they miss class to get the work they missed....they should just go themselves and then they wouldn't be behind.

Skipping Gen-ed classes is almost expected. thats why they put the caps on how many days you can miss. skipping your major classes is just plain retarded. If you're going to be doing this in the real world where your expertise could mean the difference between life and death its almost negligence to skip.
However I do have some exceptions that I make for myself and wouldnt criticize anyone else over
1. Going to the track. Hey I go on college day which means I can win a scholarship
2. Friday morning hangovers. any other day is just pathetic. cant you wait you alcoholic?
3. Going home. especially if its a long ass drive and you only get to go home once a month at the most
4. Gen Ed. We all know these classes are just so English and Philosophy majors have a job when they graduate.
5. The next class after a test. From what I've noticed its just going over the test. If you did good on it you dont care, if you did bad on it you cant pay attention due to the paranoia you might have to take the class again
6. Sex. seriously you'd rather go to class?
Hmm thats all I can think of right now. Oh and if your major classes arent going to help you or anyone else in the real world*cough* philosophy, english *cough* get a real major ya lazy bastard

I don't skip any classes in college because all of my classes are great. The teachers are cool, funny, and just down-to-earth. In high school, I skipped once, unintentionally, since my ride didn't hear his alarm go off. He slept untill 10 or so, but I couldn't get a ride since the bus comes 10 minutes before he usually comes.

I skipped more classes than anyone probabbly, dropped out of school. I went back got a ged and finsished 4 years college. I grew up and learned that skipping was getting me no where I would not have skipped if knew how hard it was to make it all up and let me tell you it was hard!

I left early a couple times in high-school due to excessive boredom, but tried not to make too much of a habit of it. In college, I usually only miss class if I'm late and know I won't get there in time to do anything.
