phew the Ump's from the yankees and boston game will need protection after the game EVEN though they made the RIGHT calls. That thing A-Rod did was very unsportsman like, jeez I hate the Yankees, go SOX!!
I'm also a fan of Boston.

Stupid move by Ahole-Rod. If he was going to try and bust up the play he should have just plowed into the guy since he was right on the baseline.

yankee haters in the place to be. i didnt SEE it, i Heard it on the radio, but after seeing the replay i agree. that was strange to see one of baseballs best players do it. still they aren't cheaters- they just win. its in their nature. and dont pull that paycheck doo-doo.

Although I really love the dialogue in the plane scene, I actually like the nude beach better. I love the fact that Tyler spends hours assembling the sand sculpture, only to sit in it's shadowed palm for a minute, and then be done with it.

The beach scene is great, but it would be a little slow for that point in the film. Especially if they went into the whole birthmark thing and wanted to include that there.

While at his recent appearance at the Chicago Book Fair, Chuck said that Survivor movie now WILL be made into a film! It sounds like the Paltrow screenplay is out, since he said the "hot duo" behind the upcoming Constantine (Keanu Reeves) want Survivor to be their next project. He did say that they were still seeking the rights to adapt the screenplay, but who knows how long until actual filming begins. Sounds interesting!" (http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/survivor.php)

That's why they called the cops out, so you wouldn't remember tonight as a night fans charged the field. It has happened in the US but it is VERY rare. Thank God we don't have riots like they sometimes have in soccer overseas.
For once, the officials didn't deserve any grief. They did a superb job getting the right calls made.

Uhhhh...how was it heads up? Instead of moving Jeter into scoring position, instead Jeter got stuck on first base because of the call. It was basically the same thing as ARod striking out. Pretty dumb if you ask me.
ryanbph
10-20-2004, 04:12 PM
swinging with his hands was not a heads up play, that was just stupid, now if he slid under arroyo and collided with mikewitz, that would have been interference on the sox, and the rules of baseball only talk about using ones hands or fists being illegal...it says nothing about one using their feet...he should have dropped kicked arroyo J/K

speaking about umpires, does anyone know what the MLB written rule on a called check swing strike is?
vrs1650
10-20-2004, 04:27 PM
Well lets see, he did the best he could with putting the bat on the ball, so it must be better than a strikeout. Now since he already hit the ball, he had a few options, One run it out and be called out at first, two slide and try to beat arroyo to the bag, stop or try and go around arroyo, or try and knock the ball out of Arroyo's hand. The play was heads up, it is the execution that sucked. If he hadn't made it so obvious it would be runner on second and down by one.

Congo was a good book, but far from Crichton's best work. But if you tried to explain the plot to someone who hadn't read the book they'd think it was shit.

If you like Crichton, try Preston and Childs (co-authors, not two separate ones). I recommend The Relic (again, turned into a really shitty movie) and Rip Tide especially.
If you haven't read The Shining, you really should. It is excellent. The Dark Tower series is OK, but not his best work. I never even read books 4 and 5.

The dark tower is the best series of books I have ever read. Although it ties in with about 15 of his other books so to get the full effect you have to read those as well

Another good collection of short stories is night shift. It's a collection of short stories and I think about 8 or 9 of them have been turned into movies. The lawnmower man was also in it but that doesn't count because the only thing the movie had in common with the book was one scene.
Heres a list of the movies
Children of the corn
maximum overdive is based off the story trucks
sometimes they come back
the mangler
graveyard shift
And I believe another story in there as well got turned into a movie quite an accomplishment for one book if you ask me

Oh yeah, The Stand miniseries for TV was pretty good, I forgot about that one.
Speaking of which, did you see the miniseries (6 hours) they did for The Shining? Stephen King wrote the screenplay, so it was much closer to the book then the Jack Nicholson version. I really enjoyed it, though the fact that "Brain" from the TV show Wings was the father took me a little while to get over :)

I've always wondered why Desperation and the Regulators weren't made into movies. They seem like much better choices than Hearts in Atlantis.

Id love to see the Dark Tower made into something. It would take so many hours it would really need a full tv season instead of just a mini series. If you guys like King you really need to read some of Dan Simmons. Simmons is similar to king but writes better. King even said in an interview when asked which book written by a modern author that he wishes he wrote . He mentioned one of simmons books. Simmons also writes a mean Sci fI book and mystery/crime novel. He is my favorite author and just unbelievable gifted

I'd think the tv series would be a bad idea. Looked what happened to Kingdom Hospital. I caught a few episodes and it was just awful.
