This is what makes Halo 2 so interesting. The ones who aren't active can be booted and it won't affect the clan. Also, the founder of the clan can assign certain members to recruit new players so that the clan stays active and flourishes.

I will only be a part of this clan if I can be assigned to a spot where I can recruit talent to keep the clan flourishing, and I know some good players from playing Counterstrike so damn much (my kill ratio is higher than my death ratio in 2,000 matches)

I can't promise anything at this point, but if you'd like to reserve a place now regardless please post your Gamertag. We'll probably start making people recruiters down the line if we're having trouble filling matches, but I don't think we'll need that for quite a while.


Also, what does everyone else think of CAG Elite (or CAGE for short)?
I like it, but I'm a bit hesitant since that implies that we're fairly damn good, and I know we have a pretty wide spectrum of skill level here. Thoughts?

Opens up possibilities for inter-CAG clan matchups. The Elites can be the ones that actually participate on a frequent basis, then we can have other CAG _insert sub name here_ group. You know, instead of each and every CAG starting a league, at least we'll know who's a CAG. Makes the games a little better knowing they're part of our community. Besides, if they screw us over we know where to harass 'em.

Apparently, you did not own Black Arrow, which was the first game to implement XBL 2.0 and clan support. It has all of those features that you just mentioned. Booting players does not mean that you will have people playing. Out of the 25-ish people that signed up, the most we ever had online at once was 8. The amount of people frequently active was much lower then that.

Halo 2 got a 9.7/10 from OXM for the people who live under a rock. Looks like the multiplayer will be very good.

clan matches will be different than matchmade games. our practices can be ranked or unranked (unranked if we want to pick the level specifics, ranked if we just play together as a "party" using random map choices), and as far clan-vs-clan matches, i'm sure they'll accommodate. no one needs to worry about the specifics, i know bungie has big plans for clan support, and i'm sure it will work better than any game yet.

I'm sure there will be a way to quit the clan, but you can only be in one clan at a time. It wouldn't make sense if you couldn't quit, or someone could just boot you.

again, i really wouldn't worry about this. i don't know of any games where you can't quit a clan, or where quitting a clan affects rating. this clan system will be at least as good as the best ones out there now.

i just did a bit of research, and it appears for now all you can make on bungie.net is a "group" in the '7th column' section, which is in a transitional period of sorts. i know that integration with halo 2 and live is the idea, but i think soon enough they'll have a very clear, specific way to start up a clan page and member list and such. i think we should give it a week and see what changes, if not i'll just start up a group. pm me sj41 and we'll organize a chat time again.

everyone up to this point has been added. our clan name will henceforth be, simply, "CAG", unless someone comes up with a better one before launch day. also, i'm hoping that next thursday when i go to the chicago ilovebees thingy i'll be able to talk to a bungie rep who can give me the complete lowdown on clans. either way, we'll have everything set up a couple days after launch by the absolute latest, most likely before that.

as for the question about the keyboard/mouse combo, i will now quote my own website for an answer:

"Jonah asked me tonight whether I think the SmartJoy FRAG, a new keyboard/mouse adapter for XBox and PS2, will ruin online gaming, specifically Halo 2. It's a good question, and it seems the gaming community has been buzzing about it since yesterday sometime. Fears of people dominating Halo 2 unfairly, hot dogs being snatched out of open hands, and general grey-matter implosion might be commonplace, but not to worry. What people seem to be forgetting en masse is that Bungie already has counter-measures set up for this by way of their online ranking and matching systems. Based on your performance, you're placed with players of a generally similar, slightly higher skill level from your second game onwards; the more you play the more accurate it will get, one can assume. So even if the keyboard/mouse combo does give players a significant advantage, which I don't think it will (more on that in a second), they'll soon be playing in rooms populated solely by their cheat-attempting douchebag brethren. That, and the people willing to shell out $75+ for the whole package will be the vast minority of Halo 2 players.

Though as I said, I don't think that this will give people an advantage whatsoever when it comes down to it. The movement and look speeds will still be limited by the game settings, and any good player (such as my immodest self) knows that when you want to go somewhere or shoot something, you do it. The limitations and challenge come in the form of reflexes, knowing the level and your weapons, and anticipating your opponents. None of that changes with a mouse in your hand. If anything, I can move my thumb a hell of a lot faster than my whole hand, and more subtly too. So that's that. No worries. This game needs to come out already so we can stop coming up with reasons why it won't be awesome."

EVERYONE WHO HAS JOINED THE CLAN NEEDS TO GO AND REGISTER AT BUNGIE.NET

Their clan features will go live next week (assumably monday night) at which point I'll be setting up our clan and adding everyone. To take advantage of all of their features and awesome stat-tracking, you need to be signed up and have your Gamertag linked to your name. If you already have hotmail i suggest using that .Net info, it makes it easier to sign up and such.

And if you doubt the coolness of the things you'll be able to do, check out this example of a screen you can view after every game showing where you were and what you were using when you kill/were killed.

the problem with many smaller groups basically comes down to people showing up. an eight-person group pretty much needs everyone there for it to be fun, which rarely happens. also, we will play tourneys, but against other clans - that's the whole idea. we might split it down further than it is, but we'll determine that once we see how it goes with everyone, especially since we don't know specifically how their clan system works yet. don't worry about it, we'll make sure it's fun for everyone even if we have to change things to do so. finally, people need to stop saying "i'll join the clan if blah blah blah happens". i really don't care if you go your own way, i started this to have fun online with whomever else wants to, and we don't need your membership.

- log in to bungie.net, go to 'my profile' and go to 'live friends' - if everything is set up right, you should see your friends list

- they need to recognize it to track your stats when you're playing

- the clan website will be on bungie.net next week

- the purpose is so we can organize matches and communicate with each other online, as well as track our stats and performance individually and as a clan

Never mind about the Clan deal, I have the info from Bungie's FAQs:

Do you have a .NET Passport? You need to link your tag to your .NET Passport (which you should have if you registered at bungie.net). After that, you can track your stats online.

cool, im in the clan recieved a clan invite from audio. It is easy, all that I did was move over with the R button in the friends list to the clan list. If you aren't in a clan you don't have anything there except create a clan. But if audio sends you an invite you will join the clan. The clan is called cheapassgamer.

Thanks a lot, you jerks. I was playing and got kicked. I don't know what happened. It showed red players (my team) as the enemy, and the aliens as the green team. I killed the red guys, which apparently was my team, and I was booted. I couldn't hear anyone else talking and everyone else was just floating around. I guess I had some kind of bug or something. I remember accidentally running over Stealthy, and I said sorry over the mic but I heard no response.

So yeah. I played, comcast died on me, I came back, played a few rounds, then it showed my team as the enemies and the enemies as my team and everyone was floating around. So sorry if you guys got pissed off at me.

I lagged on blood gulch and I was riding on the warthog while a guy who was driving was lagging. My cable modem has been just.. randomly disconnecting like every few damn minutes for the past two or three weeks and i'm almost ready to take a 12 gauge to it.

I just played 14 straight hours of Liveplay on this game- my thumbs hurt but its totally worth it. Thanks for the invites.
I'd have to say I like CTF on Zanzibar, Swords on Lockout and Assault on Headlong- I love the new maps.
Also got to teh 5th chapter of campaign and the story is interesting tho much of the gameplay and levels feel similar to the original.

When the credits start rollin', that's a good sign that you've beaten the game. You'll know when you're getting near, you can feel it.

Disappointing, though. The game throws TONS and TONS of enemies, ALL AT ONCE. There's the chewbacca things, the mini guys, the flying fuckers that have guns.. but you can run right past them. I think I died.. once? in story mode. Granted, it was on easy, but even on easy, it's pretty hard. It just.. ends rather abruptly.

also wanted to say that i had a ton of fun playing with everyone today; playing with people from CAG made this already awesome game even better. the wheels for proper clan play are in motion, so bear with us as we get accustomed with the way the system works. about half of the people on the list have accepted their clan invite, and i imagine most will have by the end of the week. in the meantime, i have a question for anyone - what clan options do you have from the main clan menu? it's hard for me to know the normal options given to a clan member since i'm overlord, and i'm just trying to figure out what i can do at this point that you guys can't (besides invite and boot people). so, details please.

The only thing I've noticed is the option to invite other people into the clan. I'm not sure exactly how it works. I don't know if someone can immediately join after I invite them, or if it sends a request to you (overlord) which must be approved. Either way, anyone who wants to join can simply post here.

I believe it only tracks stats of ranked games.

No, it tracks the stats of everything you play on Live. Only ranked matches count towards you rank though, obviously. But every kill you make, where you kill, what you use to kill, medals, flag/bomb routes, everything is tracked and archived. I can't believe this feature was never really touted in the press, because so far its the most amazing thing I've seen from the package as a whole.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I jumped on Live for about 45 minutes last night, and I was a just-slightly-better-than-500 player, where I used to be well above it. I think I need to up my look speed or something.
